We’re moving to Tennessee in two weeks, so the next two weeks are going to be quite full with packing, last-minute to-do’s, and lots of good-bye get-togethers. It’s a bittersweet time in our lives — we’re excited about the many new opportunities and adventures the future holds, but we’re also sad to leave behind dear friends and family here in Kansas.
Because we’re trying to squeeze in extra time with family and friends and prepping for the big move, I’m keeping it simple for the next few weeks and just setting six weekly goals.

Congrats!!!! I know this is crazy but I like to move. New beginnings. Will you be moving for work? Will you be doing a article about moving? I hope you tell us all about your new town.We are looking to move in about 3 yrs. Would love to hear about your area. So far we have checked out parts of Mo. We are from Ca. 🙂
Crystal Paine says
We’re moving for a long list of reasons, but mostly because some doors and opportunities opened and we both really felt a peace about moving forward with it after a lot of prayer and thought. I shared a little more about it here: https://moneysavingmom.com/2014/01/say-goodbye-survival-mode-conference-call-replay.html
We’ve loved our visits to TN and the people there are so warm and friendly! We’re excited to actually be moving there after considering it and talking about it for quite a long time!

Will pray for you and your family during your move and getting settled in your new home. Will especially pray that the adjustment period will be smooth and easy, especially for your little ones. 🙂

Thank you so very much!

Hi Crystal! I just wanted to tell you that I will be praying for you and your family in a very real way over the next few weeks. My husband accepted a promotion and we just moved from SC to KS two weeks ago. With five small children and struggling through the first trimester with our sixth pregnancy,to say it has been tough is an understatement. For the first 16ish weeks of pregnancy I stay very, very sick and in bed most days, so this has been a real challenge. Everything has been a real challenge, and we still have a lot of adjusting to do. I am praying that things will soon settle and it will begin to feel like home for us very soon. Although we don’t know what it’s like to leave friends and family (we don’t have any) I imagine that is going to be difficult and I will be praying for your family. You have been such a blessing to me and I pray that the Lord will richly bless you in return!
Crystal Paine says
Thank you for your prayers, Charity! I really appreciate it. And {hugs!} to you with all you have on your plate right now. I prayed for a special encouragement for you this morning!

By the way, ya’ll might enjoy our local newspaper columnist Ms. Cheap. http://blogs.tennessean.com/cheap/ She always finds the best deals around town; things to do, places to go, community yard sales, thrift stores, etc…..

Thanks so much for sharing!
Anna @ The DIY Mom says
Hope everything goes smoothly during your move!

We live just west of Nashville in Pegram! Ya’ll will love Nashville. So much to do. So many places to get good deals 🙂 And there’s a church on every corner! I’ve been following your blog for many years and am so excited ya’ll are moving to town!
Crystal Paine says
Thank you so very much for your warm welcome!

I’m excited for you! We finalized our move to TN in Feb of this year and couldn’t be happier with our decision. We’re expecting again the end of May and decided a rental house was best as well so we could get settled ASAP. Our house sold within a month of moving so I believe everything happens for a reason.
Sounds like everything is going smooth so far for you and I pray that continues. Best wishes and I hope you enjoy the area as much as we do!! God Bless!

Why did I think you lived in cini., Ohio? Was that a long time ago?
Crystal Paine says
We’ve never lived in Ohio, but I’ve traveled there/spoken there a few times.
Lauren @ Mommy's Getting Strong says
Good luck with your move! My husband is in the military, so I know all too well the chaos of moving (we are gearing up for our 4th move since 2010). It is such an exciting time, but also sad and anxiety-filled! From my experience, it takes about 6 months to feel “settled” into a new place. Finding a church, MOPs group, gym friends, etc help, but 6 months seems to be the mark for me where I begin to feel like I have a routine and a sense of community. Hopefully it will speed a long and maybe you already know people in Tennessee that will help that process, but I just wanted to put that out in there in case you find yourself feeling a little down and lonely in the midst of moving. It WILL get better and start to feel like home, but it does take a little bit of time (particularly if you are moving FROM somewhere where you felt very content and settled!)
Crystal Paine says
Thanks so much for sharing this from your experience — I truly appreciate it!

Good luck in TN! I’m interested to hear why you guys are moving. Hope it goes well!
Laurie @PassionatePennyPincher.com says
Crystal –
I so understand where you are – bittersweet is the only word to describe it! We move in 5 weeks to Ohio (yikes!), and I’m starting to get a little excited but for the most part am just anxious about how the move will go for our children, and how we’ll adjust to a new area.
I keep reminding myself that change – even change that’s for the very best – is still difficult, but that we’ll come out on the other side just fine. Will be praying for your move over the next two weeks as I can’t imagine how excited (and stressful) this busy time is, but I know I’ll be there soon!
Crystal Paine says
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! And all the best on your move — I hope it turns out to be much smoother than you could imagine right now. For me, planning ahead, but focusing on just the next thing right in front of me has really helped me and made the last few weeks go much more smoothly than I could have ever envisioned a few months back.
Elise says
Your goals are so encouraging. I love that you prioritized a date night in the midst of the craziness of moving. 🙂
I totally feel your pain on the sadness/excitement! We’re in the midst of planning a move *from* Tennessee, and it’ll be hard… but so good!
Michelle says
Will be praying for you during this move!
Crystal Paine says
Thanks so much!
Pam says
Good luck with your move – I think it’s great that you are still setting goals – just fewer during this busy time. That’s what I did last week while on vacation and I accomplished much more than I would have without setting ANY goals!
Crystal Paine says
Thanks so much for your kind encouragement!

We are looking to move to Kansas next year! What area are you moving out of? Any recommendations? We were looking at Lawrence, Overland and Lenexa. Safe travels to your new home in TN!!!
Crystal Paine says
We’ve lived in Lenexa before and really loved that area. I’d probably vote for that over Lawrence or Overland Park — but that’s mostly because I’ve not lived in either place before. 🙂
Erin @ My Mommy World says
I hope everything goes smoothly with the move…can’t wait to hear about all your new adventures!
Hope you and your family also have a very Happy Easter 🙂
Crystal Paine says
Thank you so much!

Oh my goodness…I have always loved reading your blog. We just moved to TN in December and LOVE it! It has been a wonderful move for our family as I am sure it will be for yours! We are just south of Nashville 🙂
Ginger says
So sorry to see your time in Kansas come to a close – but excited for your new adventure!!! 🙂
Crystal Paine says
We’ll be back often, so I’m hopeful we’ll still get to see each other at least a few times per year. You’ve been such a blessing to my life! And know that I’m always a phone call, text, or email away. 🙂
Jesenia says
Wow, it sounds like you’ll be super busy in the next couple of weeks! Praying for a smooth transition and many blessings in your family’s new journey.
Crystal Paine says
Thanks so very much!
Kerrie says
We just finished moving this past weekend. We’re due with baby #2 in the middle of May, so my goals for the next few weeks seem much more manageable now!
Crystal Paine says
Sounds like you have a lot of excitement going on at your house right now!
Melissa says
Will you be writing about your move and the preparation for it at all? For instance, are you selling your house or renting it? This sounds like a big move. We’re also planning for a big move in the next few months, so I’d love it if you share your experience. Thanks!
Crystal Paine says
To simplify things, for the time being, we’re renting there. We’re excited about the house we found as it was everything we were looking for (and then some!) and it was a few hundred dollars less per month than our budget! The preparations for this move have really gone so smoothly so far — which has been a huge blessing!
