48-Hour Giveaway: Desperate: Hope For the Mom Who Needs to Breathe (50 Winners)

“I just can’t be a mother today.”

If you’ve ever whispered those words to God in quiet desperation, you are not alone. I and millions of other women across the globe have felt the same way.

Motherhood is hard. It’s monotonous. It’s exhausting. There are many days when you want to give up and throw in the towel — if only you could find a clean one!

That’s why I’m thrilled to introduce you to a just-released book by two of my dear friends, Sally Clarkson and Sarah Mae. I love and appreciate each of these ladies so much. They have a passion to encourage and build up struggling weary mamas and they do just that in their new book, Desperate.

(me, Sarah Mae, and Sally at the Allume conference a few months back)

Desperate is for those who love their children to the depths of their souls but who have also curled up under their covers, fighting back tears, and begging God for help. It’s for those who have ever wondered what happened to all their ideals for what having children would be like. For those who have ever felt like all the “experts” have clearly never had a child like theirs. For those who have prayed for a mentor. For those who ever felt lost and alone in motherhood.

In Desperate you will find the story of one young mother’s honest account of the desperate feelings experienced in motherhood and one experienced mentor’s realistic and gentle exhortations that were forged in the trenches of raising her own four children.

Sally and Sarah Mae wrote Desperate hoping to leave you feeling soul-filled, refreshed, and hopeful.

  • veronica says:

Win or not this book will join my library. Lately I have many days where I just want to curl up in a ball and hide. As a mom I feel like I am failing and need a little encouragement. This book would be a great start. Thank you for sharing!

  • Shauna says:

I have two teenagers and feel like this book was custom made for me! I am looking forward to reading it, making up all the pages, and passing it on to my girlfriend who has six kids!

  • M says:

Just remember on days when you feel like crawling in bed and hiding there are women like me who would give anything to be a struggling mom.

    • veronica says:

That is what keeps me going on my most difficult days. I waited 10 years for my little girl and I would not change it for the world. I remind myself that I used to look at parents with kids and get sad because I wanted that. I also remember every time a friend became pregnant I was the last to know because they couldn’t bare telling me and knew my tears were coming. So I just remind myself what I tell my daughter about her adoption, “God chose you for our family because we are a perfect match.” Today might be a struggle but you my love are my angel and I would not change it for anything.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

    • Jennifer says:

Thank you for this giveaway! While I’m doubtful I will win, I have been waiting for a giveaway for this book! This overwhelmed mommy definitely needs to read this! And to “M”, I will be praying for you. I know what it’s like to desire to be a mom more than anything. I struggled with infertility for years and the journey was heartbreaking on so many levels. Hugs to you!

  • Julie C says:

I’ve been stretched so thin caring for a nursing baby, toddler in preschool, grade schoolers, jr higher, high schooler (all home educated) and a home school graduate that I’m mentoring in her own home based business which launches this month! To say I’m desperate for some encouragement to press on is an understatement. My husband just asked me tonight what was wrong and I couldn’t even put it into words. Thank you for sharing this, Crystal. I will be buying this book win or not; I just love Sally Clarkson and am looking forward to getting to know her co-writer Sally Mae.

What a privilege you had to rub shoulders with these gals. Amazing…..

  • Anna says:

I entered! Looks like a cool book 🙂
And I think just the fact that such a book exists is making me feel better today. Sometimes I feel like I must be the only mama who struggles with certain things (like finding a clean towel…which reminds me, I should go throw the laundry in the dryer :)).

  • Jennifer Marlock says:

I really need this. I am a SAHM overwhelmed with small kids and a teenage stepdaughter struggling in school. I swear I am on the edge of losing it every single day.

  • Heather says:

    Sounds like a great book!

  • Deana says:

What a great giveaway! Thank you!!

  • bjd says:

after reading the intro chapter, i am praying that i win. as a new mother of a 9 week old baby, i feel so inadequate. in fact, when i put together my goals for 2013, the only goal i wrote down was ‘survive.’ of course, i know it will get better, so i will revisit the goal list in may/june. but in the meantime, i am being stretched in ways i never thought possible. my daughter was born with medical issues that will require lifelong attention. i take it hour by hour and remind myself that i prayed for motherhood, i begged god for it with every breath. and on the days when it seems like i just can’t do it, i give it to God. i needed to see this <3 thank you!

  • Allison says:

The homeschooling support group I joined just decided to read this book, and I am so excited about it! Along with so many others, I think I will gain a lot of encouragement from this. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Leslie says:

    Thanks for offering this giveaway.

    Sally and Sarah Mae,

    Thanks for writing this book.

As a grandmother trying to have a godly influence I am looking forward to learning how I might best be able to support both my grandchildren and their parents.

Thank you for taking time to write and promote this so very needed study.

  • Michelle Rosiek says:

would LOVE to win a copy!!!

  • katie t says:

Thank you so much for offering even just the one chapter for free. I read it and almost instantly felt like i had written the same experiences down on paper. i dont think anyone else understands what being a mom is until their a mom for themselves…before i became a mother to my fiesty bundle of joy daughter, i would often go shopping with my girlfriend who is a mother of 3 kids..all a year and week apart..all born in 6,5,4…she thanked me all the time for pushing one or two of them in the cart, and i thought nothing..NOthing of it at the time…and as i prayed, planned and started my own family..i had no idea..just how thankful she was until after my sweet baby came into this world…shes 11 months and still wakes through out the night..she only falls alseep for mommys arms..and shes happiest when moms got her..i yearn for a minute to run to the store without her but also ache when im away too long…to my fiance i seem like a crazy emotional bundle of nuts…so reading this exerpt i feel alittle less crazy. thank you for this little light of hope. 🙂
