Woohoo!!!!! I actually passed up my goal of 8 hours of sleep last night by almost an hour!! I was SO tired and worn down last night, so instead of pushing through (like it’s my tendency to do), I listened to my body (something I’m learning to for The Year of Rest) and went to bed.
I woke up at 4 a.m. and was going to just get up, but I was still tired, so I laid back down and I’m so glad I did. When I woke up at 6:30 am, I felt amazing!!
Letting myself get all this sleep — and being so excited about it! — is not my usual nature. But I’m learning to stop listening to the voices in my head that say, “You really should get up and be productive” and instead listen to my body that is saying, “I’m tired and weary.”
I had no idea how much I not only needed this year of rest and I also had no idea how much I would be learning and processing as a result of taking time to rest. It’s been so good!
I’ll be hopping on Periscope later this morning (probably around 9:30 am CT) to talk about why I’ve stopped hustling, what I’m learning from it, and why I wish I would have stopped sooner.
Are you joining me for the Go to Bed Early Challenge? If so, leave a comment on this post to let me know how you did with your go-to-bed goal last night.
We’re in this together… And if you didn’t hit your goal, that’s okay! Give yourself grace, don’t beat yourself up, and know that you can try again tomorrow!

Yay, Crystal!! Well done! I’m finding the Sleep Cycle App really revealing. There are definitely things that affect my sleep a lot more than I realized (for me it’s not exercising and also drinking a cup of coffee after lunch…boo hoo).
I LOVED your scope this morning on hustle.
I said it at the beginning of the year that I felt this was going to be my best year yet as a reader as a result of what you would have to share as you journey thru your year of rest.
Its only Febraury and I’ve already been so temmendously impacted by your scopes and what you’ve been sharing so far.
I’m so grateful for you Crystal. I pray for so much more continual soul replenishment and resfreshment for you and that God has in your life and/or brings people into your life who will pour back into you double what you have been pouring out.
Way to go on the surpassing your sleep goal, too!
Thank you so much for your sweet encouragement, Jody. You continually bless me so much!
My husband went back on the road yesterday and I was so tired, I went to bed at 8:30pm! I must have needed the rest because I slept right through until my alarm went off at 5:30am. 🙂
I have done well most of the week, except last night. We only got home from church at 10:30, (which is my idea bedtime) and I really don’t sleep well coming straight home and going to bed. I ended up reading until 11:30. I gave myself grace, though, and slept until 7:11. Sadly, though, that means I didn’t get my exercise in or Bible Reading first thing this morning. I did, however, shower and get ready before the kids got up.
I’m planning to do the sleeping early challenge as part of Lent this year. No technology between 10pm-7am~!
Yay! I LOVE this!
Yay!!! Good for you!
I can’t wait to tune in!
What app do you use for sleep tracking?
This is the app connected to my Jawbone UP. It was my present to myself for my year of rest. It’s changing my life to have constant accountability and tracking like that — I realized I was getting a lot less sleep than I thought!
Do know exactly which Jawbone UP this is? Sorry I just look them up and there are several of them.
