Oh, I loved Switch and Eat, Shoots, and Leaves! And my copy of Happier at Home arrived yesterday. I can’t wait to dive in.
Happy reading!

I’ve been sucking with my personal goals the last couple of months. 🙁 This month, I’ve tried to cut down on the number of goals I’m setting in hopes that I can get back into the swing of things.
Good luck on your goals, Crystal. 🙂
Nicole says
We finished our meal-time book today, Little House on the Prairie’s “The Long Winter.” We enjoyed these daily reading times so much! Now on to “Little Town on the Prairie!” Thanks for the inspiration!
Diane says
Not exactly related, but are you doing monthly financial check up posts anymore?
I want to organize my big freezer this week and finish Til We Have Faces by CS Lewis (at least for the rest of the week’s goals, I’ve already completed a few).
Crystal says
Yes, at the end of each month (or the beginning of the following month), I’m doing a Monthly Goals Update where I share our financial goals & other goals and the progress we’ve made. Look for August’s post later today!
Emily says
Oh, good! This is one thing I’m going to start doing after I read your previous (2010, maybe) posts on financial check-ups. I’m excited about this. 🙂
Katie says
We just moved to a new apartment so my usual routines are a bit thrown off– but Lord willing I will still be able to meet my goals! Thanks for the weekly encouragement and motivation, Crystal!

I would have loved to come see you, but we start a ladies meeting Friday through Saturday. Hope it goes well for you! 🙂
Last week I was having back issues, so I didn’t get as much done as I wanted (i.e. blinds and exercise). That is ok though as I got most of it done.
This week’s plan barring no back issues
1. Clean the dining room blinds.
2. Write and mail two encouraging notes.
3. Bake goodies (Thursday/Friday) for ladies conference for this weekend – 2 pans cinnaon rolls, cheesecake
4. Wipe down the front doors of kitchen cabinets.
5. Do thorough cleaning of kitchen counters and knick knacks.
6. Clean microwave – inside and out.
7. Clean oven – inside and out.
8. Exercise three times this week.
9. Go through my clothes to see what to give away.
10. Make guest room welcoming for a friend coming in for the ladies conference.
Deanna says
I loved that series of Robert Elmer books when I was younger! He was also a speaker at a writing conference several – I thought that was the coolest thing ever.
deirdre says
WOW!! had NOOOOO idea….you were coming to Bloomington!!! I live in Bloomington I will have to come see you!!!!
Crystal says
I’ll look forward to meeting you!!

I was able to complete all of the goals I set for myself last week; however this week I had a goal to only have coffee one day this week (trying to cut out stimulants to see if it helps with trich), but this is my second day for coffee….sigh. But still moving in the right direction overall, at least! 🙂
Crystal says
Kudos to you for trying to give up coffee! I successfully gave up coffee & tea for three months straight last year, but oh how I missed it!
Carol@simple_catholic says
When I went to link up on Weekly goals, somehow, it posted on the giveaways galore, post. Sorry!
Good luck with your speaking engagement on Saturday!
Gina says
I’m really curious as to how you read a chapter aloud during dinner. Do you eat quickly and then read while the children finish eating? We were listening to audiobooks during lunch throughout the summer, but now that the kids are back to school, dinner is the time for them to talk about their day. Always looking for ways to read more, but not sure how to do it while I eat!
Victoria@Snailpacetransformations says
Your scarf knitting and book reading reminds me of my grandmother and her book stand that grandpa made for her. It would hold her book open for her so that she could knit and read at the same time! Wish I knew what happened to it now that they are both gone.
Jillian K. says
Good luck speaking!
Shelly says
Sometimes working on knitting can seem to take so much longer than it should. Any progress is good progress. I hope you get all your prep work done for your speaking engagement.
I am making good progress with my exercising each day. I am also hoping to get a few goals crossed off this week that has fallen by the wayside the last few weeks.
The Prudent Homemaker says
I’m making my daughter’s birthday gifts this week!
Trish says
Um yes. Progress of any kind is progress.
I celebrated with a client last week that was able to put $12.98 into their emergency fund at the end of August. Quite a few of us could have never imagined where we would be today when we had these huge amazing goals for our lives a number of years ago.
Here’s to forward movement.
Brandy says
Crystal- sorry! When I first linked I pasted the wrong link and didn’t know how to undo it! Forgive me- I’m new to this!
Anna says
I moved into a new home!!!!!!!!!
Moving into a new house is stressful so time for me to get started again on discipline and goal setting again. I took a hiatus from the 3 weeks to making the most of your mornings series. I have lots to do but here is what I want to work on.
My ten weekly goals are the following:
1. Declutter the old items in old house
2. Clean the old house
3. Unpack new place
4. Budget for September
5. Turn on utilities
6. Catch up on things at work
7. Re-establish routines
8. Re-evaluate yearly goals
9. Make a list of needs for new home
10. Take child to buy new uniforms
Kayla@Renown and Crowned says
After delaying posting weekly goals with the excuse of “I don’t want to overcommit myself,” I’m attempting them for the month of September. If I see significant improvement, I’ll continue thru the end of 2012!
Crystal says
Just start with 2 or 3 goals, if need be. Any progress in the right direction is better than no progress at all! You can do it; I’m cheering for you!
Sandra @ The Sensible Mom says
Oh man! I’ve lived in IL all my life until we moved to Georgia four months ago. I would’ve loved to have seen you speak in Bloomington. 🙂
