I love wall decals. In fact, they are one of the few home decor things I’ve actually pulled off (er, rather, stuck on) myself!

They can transform the look of a wall or part of a wall. Best of all, they are inexpensive, easy to put on, and can be easily removed.

I really enjoyed reading The Pursuit of Elizabeth Millhouse. It’s a well-written novel that tackles a lot of issues many of us have battled with.

Here’s the description:

Spanning the calamitous turmoil of a World War and the deadly Influenza plague of 1918, The Pursuit of Elizabeth Millhouse is a spellbinding portrait of a young girl’s struggle against the travails of modern loss and faithlessness.

Born to privilege and wealth, Elizabeth Millhouse is the only child of a tense and loveless relationship. Sequestered to a boarding school at a tender age, Elizabeth is ordered to stay at school even through holidays. When she is finally allowed home for the first time, it is only to visit a newly-affectionate father on his death bed.

After prayers for her father’s recovery are denied, she rejects God and determines to live her life without reference to Him. Left alone with a cold and distant mother, Elizabeth seeks to forge her own path, searching for permanence and love in a world where circumstances shift like quicksand beneath her feet.

Personal loss and the revelation of her own history build to a sudden understanding—in closing herself to God, she has denied herself the very love she craves.

For a first-time author, I was very impressed blown away by the depth and quality of this story. It pulled me in and I had trouble putting down — which means that I considered it a good read. :) In addition, I was blessed and challenged by the message of God’s faithfulness woven through the pages.

This book is available via Amazon, Kindle, or Barnes & Noble. Follow author Amanda Barber on Facebook to keep up with her latest projects.

I’m so excited about this — and my kids are, too! We’re huge Adventures in Odyssey fans at our house. Plus, I’m a huge Tricia Goyer fan.

Meld the two together and you get the Whit’s End Mealtime Devotions a brand-new daily family devotional for dinner time from Tricia Goyer and and Adventures in Odyssey. This book is designed to help foster great discussion at the dinner table and I think it hits the nail on the head.

Kathrynne took one look at it when we got it in the mail the other day and told Jesse right away that this was our new dinner time read aloud. We can’t wait to dive into it soon!

From the publisher’s description:

Your family’s gathered around the table. What’s on the menu? Cold stares? Stale prayers? The same old leftover questions about “what happened at school today”?

Next time you sit down to eat, enjoy some spiritual food too! Get everyone talking—and learning—with the nourishment of Whit’s End Mealtime Devotions! Encourage quality family time and pass on a strong spiritual heritage with these 164 devotions created to engage children in fun, lively, productive dialogue.
