Kaitlynn wanted to make herself a dress this week.
Some tape, fabric scraps, and a tea towel I no longer needed were the perfect materials to pull it off. She was so proud of her first homemade dress — and I was so proud of her hard work and creativity! 🙂

Angi @ schneiderpeeps says
very, very creative! My kids loved tape when they were younger (and pipe cleaner and string – just couldn’t make enough spiderwebs out of string)
If she wanted to attempt making a dress with a sewing machine (with you, of course) she’s not too young. My daughter started sewing when she was *almost* six. I’m doing a summer sew along using variations of the pillowcase dress. I bet she would make one. http://www.schneiderpeeps.com/2012/06/amazing-pillowcase-dress-sew-along.html

My mom taught my sister and me to use the sewing machine to make sol dresses when we were 3 and 4 years old. It showed me that I didn’t have to be afraid to try and I continue to do so.

My ten yr old daughter was distressed that she had no boy clothes for a doll she had that she said just had a boy face, so she took some red felt, and stitched him up a pair of overalls by just sorta cutting out what looked like overall fronts and backs to her and then sewing them together with some cross stitch thread. They were so cute, and she even cut holes and put on buttons for them to fasten. Love the creativity!!
Once they start figuring this stuff out, they FLY!!!!

Cute and very creative. Be sure to keep the little dress, it will be so enjoyable to look at ten years from now. A prefect way to enjoy memories from their childhood.

That’s so cute! She is going to be a great proverbs 31 wife for sure!
Heather Clarke @ QueenBeeCoupons says
That’s so adorable. Maybe when she’s sleeping tonight you can secretly stitch it up on the sewing machine, so she can wear it long after the tape “unsticks”. She’s precious.
Bethany M says
She is so stinking cute!
Patti says
Good way to understand clothing construction! You may have a future designer or seamstress!

What is the deal with little girls and tape? Thank goodness I have a ton of tape (free from using coupons) because mine use it for everything. Cute dress Kaitlynn! You did a good job!
deborah says
Too cute! Looks so much like something my daughter would’ve done at that age!
Marty says
Wow, great dress Kaitlynn! Kids are amazing and tape will do amazing things with kids we should really all own stock in it I think. 🙂

So cute! And much more creative than the time I attempted to make corduroy pants for myself without a pattern.
There are patterns online for how to make flip flops, wallets, etc out of duct tape…should she want to continue creating with tape. 🙂
Christina @ The Frugal Homemaker says
so pretty! 🙂
great job, Kaitlynn!
Stacy @ A Delightful Home says
That is adorable! Way to go, Kaitlynn (and mom for letting her do it!).
My kids love and use tape so much I started putting in their Christmas stockings and giving it for b’day presents! They are usually thrilled 🙂

I think she did a remarkable job. The first time I attempted to sew (machine) I was much older and proceeded to sew up the neck and armholes in a dress I was trying to make for myself.
Charis says
My 5 year old daughter can make almost anything given a little tape!! Love the dress!
