After stopping at Dillon’s today, we headed to Target. Here’s what we bought:
2 Reach floss — $0.97 each, used 2 $1/1 coupons, free after coupons
1 Up & Up Detangler — $1.34, used $0.50/1 Target Baby item coupon (no longer available), $0.84 after coupon
1 Up & Up Lotion — $1.37, used $0.50/1 Target Baby item coupon (no longer available), $0.87 after coupon
1 A&D Ointment — $3.34, used $1/1 manufacturer’s coupon, stacked with $2/1 Target coupon (no longer available), $0.34 after coupon
2 Circo socks — $1 each, used $1/1 Target Circo coupons (no longer available), free after coupon
1 Up & Up Foil — $1.22, used $0.50/1 coupon, $0.72 after coupon
1 Up & Up Eye Drops — $2.19, used $0.50/1 coupon, $1.69 after coupon
2 Tide travel packets — $1.07 each, used 2 $1/1 coupons, $0.07 each after coupon
1 Up & Up Nail Polish Remover — $1.02, used $0.50/1 coupon, $0.52 after coupon
2 Wish-Bone salad dressings — $1.60 each, used $0.75/1 manufacturer’s coupon, stacked with $1.50/2 Target coupon (no longer available), $0.48 each after coupons
Before coupons and clearance prices, my total would have been $20.76. After coupons, I paid $6.47.
I also picked up three clearance t-shirts and jeans, all priced at just $3.15 each!
I’ve been printing the good Target coupons as they’ve come available the past few weeks and then I finally had enough to make it worth making a trip today. This is typically how I roll with Target and Walmart — I just collect coupons to use there in their designated coupon envelope in my coupon box and then I make a trip every few weeks.

I just went to target today hoping to get all the deals you did and more. I was highly disappointed when nearly everything was priced way higher than I expected. I guess I didn’t think about different target stores pricing the same items so vastly different.
Crystal says
Yes, unfortunately, different Target stores vary in price — sometimes even in the same town! Unless it’s advertised in the ad, it can vary by store.
Amy says
I don’t understand how you only paid $6 if the 3 shirts and jeans were $3 each.
Crystal says
I didn’t include those in my total as they came out of the clothes budget, not the grocery budget. I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear. I should have put them in a separate picture!
Nicole says
Thank you SO much for posting the Scotch tape deal… just went and got 18 for FREE! Awesome! 🙂

The hubby picked up the same exact shirts for our lil Viviana 🙂 They are super cute!

I just returned from Target and AGAIN they did not credit me for a coupon…had to go back in to customer service with another coupon (luckily I had a spare I would not use). It is so frustrating to shop at Target because almost every time they somehow miss a coupon…this time it was for $5 off two haircolors(plus I had 2 Target coupons for $2 off each box for a total savings of $9 off 2 boxes).
Also, I was looking for the Carefree panyliner for 1 cent, and crystal light-but they did not have them:(
Carrie says
I do find Target “policies” inconsistent, but will admit that I enjoy the cleanliness, brightness and Target brand items a lot. Their children’s clothing is definitely worth it, especially on clearance, since it washes and holds up well enough to pass on to another child.
Whenever I have a coupon issue, I politely ask for the coupon back, then head to customer service right after my transaction. Yes, it’s a pain, but I have never had a customer service rep question the coupons since I am an honest couponer. Also, as a word of warning, if you do go to customer service, the whole coupon issue will take time; they have to reimburse you for each coupon individually, or void the entire transaction, reclaim your original coupons from the cashier and re-ring it all.

I use mypoints to get $10 target gc’s and I use them to get free diapers and other baby items, but with the price of gas I may start choosing walmart gc b/c I heard you can buy gas with them. I just started the arquest diaper study today well my daughter just started.
Rae says
yes you can buy gas at Walmart for a discount using a giftcard. I think it is $.03/gallon but could be wrong
jen says
hi! thanks for all these wonderful ideas and all the work you put out there for us!! i just recently started trying to coupon better and am really saving at CVS. we only have a super walmart and small private grocery store in our town, so no doubling coupons for me. can you tell me where you get these target and walmart coupons?
thanks so much for your blog!!!
Crystal says
The Target coupons are mostly from the Target website. I post about the good ones as they become available and suggest printing them right away as they usually only last for a little while.
Jennifer M. says
I did great today at Target too!!
Saved 94%
I can’t figure out why the A&D is $4.04 at my Target.. why such a huge price gap between your store & mine… frustrating!!
The Prudent Homemaker says
Does anyone else have trouble with the Target coupons beeping and saying the item isn’t there? It happens with most of my Target coupons every trip!
I know the Reach coupon should adjust down, but it just said the item wasn’t there. The Up & Up cleaning item said the same thing, but perhaps it was too generic to realize that bleach is a cleaning item?
The socks coupons beeped on me a few weeks ago, and the cashier tried to tell me that socks weren’t clothing. Several other Target coupons said item not found, and even though the cashier could see the items, she didn’t want to take them because the coupon beeped and the socks would be free.
On my trip this week, most of my Target coupons beep. The cashier pretended to type in 2 of the coupons after I told her the items her were, and stick her hand out for the next coupons. I had to call her on it twice! I had a new employee this time; I don’t know how much coupon training the new employees get, but I’d love to hear from a Target employee in the comments about this. I also bought 7 bags of jelly beans, using coupons on all of them (some were $1 off 2) and the cashier asked if I had even BOUGHT jelly beans! She also suggested to me that the Up& Up coupon didn’t scan for the bleach because I had perhaps bought a different brand. I told her we could open the bag back up and she could look at it.
I was really surprised to see so much distrust from a brand-new employee! I would have taken her name, but she didn’t have a Target shirt or nametag yet.
In addition, I always have to ask for my bag credit for bringing reusable bags. Does everyone else have to ask, or does your cashier ring them up while they are loading your bags? At the same store, I did have ONE amazing trip where the cashier gave me credit for the bags, made sure all of my coupons went through, and was pleasant and happy to help me. I don’t know his schedule, but I did tell the manager what a great job he did!
Kadee says
I’ve had trouble with many Target coupons, too. The long time cashier that is usually working when I go used to push them all through, but now she doesn’t really even try. If it beeps, she says she looks at the picture on the coupon to see if I have the item. Well, the wording says it is valid – the picture doesn’t mean much! I always have to ask about the bags, too. One girl didn’t give me the discount, and she wouldn’t even bag my items – she handed everything to me to put in the bags. I don’t mind, but she acted very strange about the bags. I used to love Target, but after some trips I wonder why I am still shopping there!
Kristie says
I question myself, also about why I still shop there. They upset me one time. I was trying to return a gift that I didn’t want. It was unopened & clearly their brand of silverware. I could only exchange it for the SAME item! The lady was very rude about it also. I didn’t shop there for over a year for that!
Katie says
Yes you have to have a reciept 🙁 It’s to prevent people who actually steal the items, then come back in and try to return them for cash.
Suz says
At Target, the coupons always seem to beep and require the cashier to push a button to accept them or something. It can be a hassle and a little nerve wracking because then I feel the need to check and make sure they actually put the coupons through. I have had cashiers at grocery stores pretend they didn’t notice the coupon got rejected and didn’t even attempt to put it through, and I caught them doing it. I don’t spend all this time clipping coupons for them to not get used!!
Courtney says
I used to love Target but now I only go once in a blue moon because it is such a hassle to use coupons there. Their attitude seems to be “if you’re using coupons, you must be trying to cheat us”.
Crystal says
Most of these coupons beeped, but I had a great cashier who put them through. I definitely scope out cashiers ahead of time to find ones that look efficient and friendly as they are usually much more coupon-friendly, too. This usually makes a pretty big difference. If you have a small Target store with only one or two cashiers, then you don’t have many options.
I’m so sorry for all your issues at Target. 🙁
The Prudent Homemaker says
Despite the issues, and the fact that my Target is consistently .20-.60 more than other Targets on items, I have actually had better luck with coupons at this Target over another Target down the road (which is even cheaper).
If I go during the morning, there are plenty of employees, the store is fairly empty, and someone asks me if I need help in EVERY department that I pass! The store is also very clean.
There are usually only 1 or 2 cashiers at my store; last night there was only 1. (It is a big store).
I’m really happy with the Target coupons; it has brought my bill down so much. I now shop at Target instead of Walmart on almost all of my tolietries.
It just seems strange that their store coupons would beep; you would think that these would be the first ones to go through.
If everyone has the same issue across the country, then perhaps many of us could write a letter to Target corporate, telling them how much we love their coupons, but that it would be a much more pleasant experience if their internet coupons scanned properly (and if their cashiers could be trained to give us the .05 bag credit that they advertise in their weekly flyers).
I’m sure it would take a good number of letters from across the country, but I’ll bet that if enough of your readership sent off an email, we could all have better shoping experiences at Target. I really appreciate their coupons and bag credits, and I would love to be able to use ANY cashier without having to worry about my coupons being rejected.

Thanks for all of your deal postings, Crystal! I sure appreciate them!
Super Saver Sister says
I absolutely agree! Target is wayyyyyyyyy cleaner and much more efficient to shop than the Walmarts in my area. My Targets are never on “Target” with the posts other money saving blog sites put up because I live in Chicago where every item is somewhat more expensive.
My sister and I have had the same problems with:
-Target coupons not scanning the way they’re supposed to
-Target coupons just not working at all
-Cashiers not knowing how to price adjust down because of a coupon
-Many times I’ve left and found that I was not given my $0.05 discount for “going green”. Those times I’ve been (sorry to say this) a bit embarrassed to go back in for my nickel… (My sister would be so mad at me for that).
Well, with that said, I will be copying and pasting this into a letter to send to Target. I really hope they get on the ball, cause I really do love to shop and I love shopping Target!
The Prudent Homemaker says
I’ve been really happy with Target’s coupons; I now shop at Target more than Walmart for many things.
Perhaps if so many are having the same issues, a letter to Target corporate from many people across the country could make it so that they would fix their own coupons to scan properly? It would make shopping there so much more pleasant. I would love it is the cashiers also remembered to scan our reusable bags. I know there is power in numbers.

I love their coupons, and I’d love to be able to use any cashier at any time without having to have the cashier manually type in coupons for so many things.
The Prudent Homemaker says
Sorry about the double post; the first time the page reloaded without my reponse!
Katie says
I actually have worked for Target in the past, but besides that…I remember the UP & UP coupon for the cleaning product that you are talking about….I went and got Bleach also, the coupon didn’t scan, she asked me what item I was using the coupon for, I told her the bleach, she argued with me that bleach is not considered a cleaning item….I suggested she get her manager. The manager came and she also insisted that bleach is not a cleaning item, and they refused the coupon. I’m sorry, but where I come from, bleach is a cleaning item!!!
Katie says
Also about the 5cents reusable bag credit, your cashiers should be coached again. Because when they are hired & trained, they are required to look for your reusable bags, and scan once per bag they have filled, you should NOT have to speak up and ask for the discount! I’m sorry that you have to! I remember a lady one time came in with about 50 reusable bags, and asked me to scan 5cents off them all, when I only ended up filling 2 bags….haha.
Jen says
I am a current Target employee and am surprised at how many people are having problems with coupons. The Target I work at is known for being “the good” Target so maybe that’s the difference. Here are a few tips that will hopefully make couponing a bit easier:
-If possible, try shopping in the morning, middle of the afternoon, or late at night; it is much less busy in the stores at this time and you will probably get better service at the registers. The morning cashiers tend to be older and regular cashiers and usually know know how to handle coupons and remember to give credit for bags.
-Give the cashier your coupons at the beginning of your transaction. I appreciate when guest give me their coupons at the beginning, I pay attention to what they are buying and don’t usually have to double check their bags to make sure they are buying the product when it beeps.
-If you continue to have problems with the coupons try giving the coupon for the item you are buying after the item is rung through. If you use this method please make sure you have your coupons ready to go and are organized so that the transaction does not take forever.
-If you notice a coupon was missed after you leave the cashier go over to Guest Service and explain the issue. Coupons can be adjusted there and the Guest Service person usually is pretty helpful.
I hope this helps!

Great deals! I am taking the week off with Spring Break but I am glad to see you score some goodies! =)

I usually pass on the Target deals because they usually aren’t worth the gas to get there but I LOVE the idea of saving them up until it is worth it for me to drive out there. Thanks for the idea. Scored a bunch of clothes at Wal-Mart on Tuesday for $1….I am still excited.

I am bummed. I have tried printing the Target coupons but there is something about their site that doesn’t jive with my printer. I can print from coupon.com just fine. But no such luck with Target coupons 🙁
Melissa says
I have been having that problem but today I fixed it all on my own. I did a search on my computer for couponactivator (the Target printer program) and when my computer found it I clicked on it and it asked me if I wanted to run the program I hit the “run” button and finally it started to print. I hope this helps~Melissa

Karen,
Don’t give up. I had that problem for a while, but one day, it worked. Make sure when you try to install the Target coupon printing wizard thingy, you click on the yellow bar across the top to allow it to install. Good luck! 🙂
Christie says
I had the same problem when printing target coupons, I use internet explorer usually so i tried using firefox instead and they printed without any problems 🙂 Hope it will work for you.
Alison says
I’ve had great luck with the Circo toddler clothes at Target. I’ve gotten a lot of my daughters clothes from $1.25-2.50 each. It is hard to keep myself from buying more when I see these deals but she’s finally starting to level out with sizes at 19 months (thank goodness!)
Kathy says
My Target says they adjust the coupon down to the price of the item.
Megan says
Mine said they can’t adjust the price down if it’s a manufacturer coupon. I think I just chose the wrong cashier that day though cause I’ve never had an issue before.
Rae says
it doesn’t specify what type of coupon that they will adjust down in the policy they just say that they will adjust it down so they were incorrect 🙂
SuAnne McBroom says
When I tried to use a coupon at Target that is for more than the price of the item, they would not take it. What is their policy on that? How is the best way to handle that?
Ashley says
At my target the computer automatically adjusts down the coupon if it exceeds the price of the item!
Rae says
They have to adjust the coupon as stated in their policy. I keep all of my policies printed and filed 🙂

YEY!!! I hit Target last week. Spent $16, Saved $37. Got potatoes, pasta sauce, zyrtec, some easter goodies, and some more useful stuff! LOVE Saving $$.

I picked up the floss the other day…one rang up for $0.97, the other rang up for $1.47. So, both cost me $0.47. Not that big of a deal, and I wasn’t going to go back for $0.47, but I hate when that happens!
Amanda says
I came across a great deal at Target tonight accidentally – they had several Air Wick starter kits clearanced for $4.24, and I was able to use the $4 Air Wick coupon from a few weeks ago, making them 24 cents. On top of this, there is apparently an Air Wick promotion going on now, so I also got a $5 Target gift card! A nice $4.04 profit for me tonight!
ashley says
where did you get the coupon for the Tide packs?
Amber says
I was wondering the same thing….
Crystal says
It was in the P&G $100 coupon booklet available on their Facebook Page a few months ago.
Stephanie says
I love the idea of having separate envelopes for each store. I should really try that instead of attempting to hit up Target & Walmart on a regular basis.
