I stopped by the health food store while I was out today. The deals were pretty sparse, but I did get Organic Valley cheese marked down to $0.99, Pirate’s Booty Veggie Crisps marked down to $0.99, a double bag of grapes marked down to $0.99 (I’m planning to freeze these for smoothies) and some Organic Wallaby yogurt marked down to $1.99.
My total was $5.32.

I agree about your health food store markdowns. I have checked every where in town and they don’t have any health food stores that mark things down. I guess that is one of the drawbacks to living in a small town!

Ok, I have to finally say I’m SO envious of your health food store. I hadn’t been to ours in a few years, but seeing all your deals prompted me to visit it last week. They have very few groceries and absolutely no fresh fruit or vegatables and no markdowns. 🙁

Are you supposed to wash the grapes before you freeze them? I know each freeze seems to have a different process.
Crystal says
Yes, I would definitely suggest washing them first.

We shop for natural/organic products at Earth Fare and I never see mark downs. If the smaller health food story had more of a selection I’d start shopping there. Unfortunately, if I decided to shop for mark downs there I’d still have to go to Earth Fare for other items we use regularly. However, the local health food store is expanding to a bigger location this year, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to start shopping there more.
Crystal says
Hey, well, the good news is that you *have* an Earth Fare — a store which seems to constantly be releasing amazing coupons. I try not to be envious of those with an Earth Fare nearby. 😉
Allyson @ a Heart for Home says
That’s true. They do have at least one good weekly coupon if you sign up on their website. This week was free apples!
How about we call it even. You try not to be envious of my ability to go to Earth Fare and I’ll try not to be envious of your health food store markdowns 🙂

It’s a deal. 🙂

Organic Valley Cheese for 99 cents?? Wow! Thats a very good deal.
I went shopping today and noticed price hikes on many vegetables and fruits. They may even hit the shelves soon.

I never think to freeze fruit and am always so disappointed when it goes bad before we eat it. Thanks for all the tips on fruits that I wouldn’t think freezable (ie. oranges and grapes). I’m looking forward to trying your orange smoothies soon.

Hi, I Have a question.
You grind your own wheat for flour right?
What kind do you use?
I just got the Grain Mill you recommend for my Birthday. I purchased Hard Red Wheat for bread and some Soft White wheat for muffins and pancakes. I’m hoping to get Hard white wheat for bread too.
I’m having trouble finding online what real people use instead of what stores say to use 😉 Any suggestions?

I have no idea if it is my mood or what, but “Oraganic Wallaby” and “Pirate’s Booty” made me giggle. Organic food seems to have fun brand names, haha. I’ve had grape in the freezer unsure of what to do with them. My son LOVES grapes but won’t eat them frozen. I found that out after I had bought a large amount on sale and froze them… Thanks so much for the smoothie idea! I don’t know why I didn’t think of that!
Crystal says
I know. The names always crack me up!

So how do you know when Whole Foods is marking down their food? Is is just a luck of the draw or do they do it on certain days? Our WF is so far away I would only want to go for a good sale.
Crystal says
Unfortunately, we don’t have a Whole Foods here, just a two local health food stores. But they do a great job of offering markdowns so it helps me not miss Whole Foods so much!
Keelie says
so, what is Organic Wallaby?
Crystal says
It’s a brand of yogurt. 🙂

Those are some great deals you found!! You’re lucky to have a whole foods store near you!!

You should freeze the grapes on a cookie sheet and then throw them in a bag and snack on them! They are sooooooooooo good, and so fun.
Crystal says
My mom always did that growing up, but I wasn’t really fond of the peels. I’ve heard grapes are wonderful in smoothies, though, so I’m excited to try it!
