Last week, I told you I was going to experiment with five new Pinterest recipes. I already shared my major success with the Best Ever Chocolate Oatmeal Bars. And I didn’t get a chance to make the Homemade Bath Bombs yet — hopefully this week!
I also made the three other recipes and can’t wait to tell you more how the Chocolate Chip Cookie in a Cup, No Knead Make Ahead Dinner Rolls, and the No Knead Dinner Rolls turned out. Let’s just say that there was one big success and two pretty severe failures. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to post pictures and details tomorrow afternoon.

What’s on your menu this week? Tell us in the comments or leave a link to your menu plan post.

We made those pretzels this week – I’m curious to know what you think of them. I used all (homeground) whole wheat flour, and mine turned out really dry. I’m having a hard time getting the kids to eat them, even if I slather them with chocolate frosting (the pretzels, not the kids! 🙂 ). Anyways, even though it’s more involved a recipe (and has more fat and sugar), I want to try Heavenly Homemakers’ recipe for pretzels. They sound sooooooo good!

I’m curious to see how they turn out, too! Thanks for your review on them!
There is a ton of ideas on Pinterest, but I ran across this board.

Love the red, white and blue deviled eggs or on a sweeter side, the chocolate dipped pretzel rods with red, white and blue sprinkles. Many more ideas though!
Thank you so much for sharing!
Hi Crystal,
I haven’t tried this yet but wanted to mention this Red, White, Blueberry Quinoa recipe for your celebration. Maybe you’ll get to it first and let me know if it’s any good. I do recommend using red quinoa and letting the pine nuts be the “white” in the dish. I think it would be prettier and tastier but maybe that’s just me. http://bijouxs.com/2011/07/01/red-white-blueberry-quinoa/
Happy 4th!
Thanks so much for sharing that link!
Crystal, thank you so much for posting your menu! I usually find some new favorites! I can’t wait for it to cool down so we can try all the muffin recipes! 🙂
We made this http://www.craftaholicsanonymous.net/4th-of-july-jello layered jello last year. It was a hit! My son told me it’s a must have this year. I used 6 oz boxes of jello and omitted the fruit in the jello because we were serving so much fruit along side. But I did spend about a minute making a fruit “star” for the top. Really impressed my father-in-law. 🙂
I did Pinterest experiments this week too! Had a sad cookie fail- don’t even want to try again because I threw out almost an entire batch – they turned out very “cakey”. But, I also had a huge hit! Pretzel rolls to eat our burgers on – I loved them. Hubs and kid liked them too.
Oh, could you share the recipe link? I’d love to check it out!

It has a few steps, but they were worth it 🙂
THANK YOU!
I had to look to see what haystacks. I think my kids would love to have my recipe for dinner.
I make haystacks with potato sticks tossed with melted peanut butter and butterscotch chips. Sometimes I add peanuts. You plop them on wax paper til they set. A very easy no bake recipe, but I usually serve haystacks for dessert 🙂
Yes, that recipes has a variety of names — we’ve just always called it Haystacks. And I’m glad you checked so you didn’t think I was just serving my family dessert for dinner. Although, every once in a blue moon, that might be fun! 🙂
I’m still in love with zucchini double chocolate muffins though. I don’t think I can try another recipe after this one!

The homemade bath bombs are categorized under This weeks menu and hopefully will not be confused by any one reader as being edible. Although it is shown under the sub-category of recipes to try, this could result in a mistake by someone viewing this site. Inedible items should not be posted within a food menu plan. Hopefully no one will or has made this and consumed.
Thanks for mentioning that. I assumed since they were “bath bombs” no one would think they were edible… but I appreciate you bringing this to my attention — and for your kind concern for the safety and health of my readers!
I made those no bake bars last night and they are amazing!!! I ran out of chocolate chips so I used butterscotch instead – so yummy. Also I added sunflower kernels instead of dried berries. Delicious! Can’t wait to try it again when I have the chocolate and cranberries! 🙂
Oh, I love the idea of sunflower kernels and butterscotch. I bet that added a cool twist!
I will be making those pretzels! They look so good. Thanks for sharing.
Im so happy I am not the only one that has failures. I always wonder when I hear raves about a recipe and then it blows when I make it. Usually the ones you recommend are tried and true and I thank you for that!
This week it is lot of 4th of July food. Hot dogs, corn on the cob, biscuits with tomatoes, potato salad fresh fruit.
We are attending two July 4th potlucks and I’m known for my desserts. I’m trying to use up stockpiled items and that includes a lot of baking things, so I’m bringing chocolate fudge brownies.
We are having a potluck at my house. Since we are doing the meat and drinks, I decided to do a simple flag dessert. i am going to make a pan of brownies, ice them, cut them in rectangles, and take red and blue m&ms to make each one a flag. I thought my daughter could help and it would be a craft.
You could also just cut up a watermelon or make an apple pie. Can’t get any more American than those!
Thanks so much for the ideas!
I’ve seen some really cute skewers on pinterest. Blueberries, Strawberries and Marshmallows stuck through bamboo skewers. They were easy, mostly healthy and adorable for an Independence Day Picnic.
We are trying 2 new recipes for Gaint. You can find our menu this week at http://missy-lifeofaworkingmom.blogspot.com/2013/07/cooking-meal-plan-for-07012013-07072013.html.
Also my daughter (11) made your rolls the other night in the bread machine. Thank you for a easy recipe!! 🙂
My one attempt at bath bombs was a miserable failure. I know just do a dry bath salt recipe 🙂
Here is our menu for the week. I found a recipe for homemade strawberry lemonade that was delicious!
Have a nice 4th

I’m looking forward to hearing how your recipe experimenting went. I love trying new recipes.
Here’s our menu for this week,

IME, usually bath bombs are nice and simple, but sometimes they fail miserably. However, in the latter case, you just put the crumbs in a jar and have fizzy bath salts, and no problems getting your kids in the bath for a week or so. You can’t really go wrong putting those ingredients in your bath.
We have haystacks on the menu this week, too! 🙂
I can’t wait to see how the homemade pretzels turn out! I would love to make them!
Here is what is cooking in my kitchen this week:

I plan on making these Rhubarb Bars for 4th of July Picnic, I got a lot of rhubarb from out local farmers market. I love using items that are in season! http://cultivatingtrio.com/2013/06/01/rhubarb-bars/
Have a great 4th of July!
Thanks for linking to two of my recipes – the no-knead rolls and the muffins. I am curious to hear about the fails you said you had. They came right after a sentence with yeast bread so am curious. Bread can be tricky sometimes. Email me if it was a recipe of mine.
Your Best Ever No Bake Bars look wonderful. I’ve had a recipe like that on my site for a couple years. Love the texture and the oats and yours are so tempting!
You’re welcome! Thanks so much for the recipe inspiration.
And let’s just say, the failures were total user error. More on that tomorrow. 🙂
Whew 🙂
Well if you think there’s any way I can help you troubleshoot, I’m more than happy to.
Here is what we are eating: http://www.everydayhomecook.com/2013/07/weekly-menu-plan-june-30-july-6/
I just posted an amazing summer tart recipe last week that would be perfect for the 4th! It’s hard to go wrong with a potato salad, too 🙂
The ONLY Fourth of July dish that SCREAMS America, in my very humble midwestern girl’s opinion is Strawberry Rhubarb pie. I make mine with a crumble top – I bring a pie every year to a cookout we go to, and every year…it disappears. 🙂
We just made rhubarb pie a couple of times recently! My recipe doesn’t have strawberries, but it uses strawberry jello and is super easy. There is something about it that definitely seems summery! 🙂
