I’m currently challenging myself to stick with a $70 budget for our family of six (two adults, two teens, a pre-teen, and a baby. We are also fostering an 8-month-old, but he only has formula through his g-tube right now and that is all covered by state insurance.) This includes almost all of our breakfasts, snacks, and dinners + most household products (toiletries, feminine products, etc.). Jesse and I usually eat lunch at home. The kids have lunch at school.

Baby D and I came home from the hospital Wednesday evening. (We’ve been back to the hospital twice since then — once to the ER because his g-tube button came out leaving him with a gaping hole in his stomach with all the contents spewing out(!) and we were back at Vanderbilt again today for him to have his sutures out. Gratefully, he only had to be sedated a little bit today and didn’t have any complications so we got to go home right after the procedure!)
It was SO good to be home — and I was so ready to eat salads again, instead of packaged snacks and hospital food!
Kierstyn was especially excited to have him home. She is constantly concerned about him and always is checking on him and making sure he’s okay, trying to kiss and hug him, and giving him things. It’s the sweetest!
Her little crinkly nose smile brings us so much joy!
The simple ritual of making myself a salad and toast with butter for lunch every day is not only a way I take care of myself, but it also reminds me to slow down and savor life.
I had bought pineapple last week and frozen blueberries the week before and almond milk sometime in the last month, so I made a yummy smoothie with those three ingredients and threw some collagen powder in it, too!
I came home from the hospital with a little bit of a cold/cough, so I stayed home and did grocery pick-up this week again. I’ve missed shopping in-store and getting the markdowns, but I am so grateful for grocery pick-up and that I can still get some great deals with it!

Just curious as to what your weekly dinners are with these groceries?

I practice the buy ahead principle and do reverse meal planning… so a lot of what I bought here isn’t for meals this week. If you follow along on Instagram, I often share what I make for dinner and I share how I am using reverse meal planning to make it really inexpensively.
