We were traveling back home today from Atlanta so I didn't get the opportunity to post Super Savings Saturday until now. Here's what we bought at the grocery store this week:
Wal-Mart (plus a bag of organic carrots some friends gave us): $19.73
Target trip: $6.72, used gift cards earned last week to pay plus earned a $5 gift card back = $0.00 out of pocket (I was planning to get 10 Kashi items, but they were out of the Honey Sunshine Kashi cereal so I just had to improvise!)
Dillon's trip: $7.22
So all totaled, we spent $26.95 on groceries this week. It's looking like I'm going to have some extra grocery money at the end of September to invest in a few more bulk purchases, which I'm excited about. Now I'm just figuring out exactly what I'm going to use the money to purchase! I'll let you know when I decide.
Stay tuned for our full menu for next week which I'll post on Monday. We've had so much going on recently that I've not done as great of a job of menu-planning and it's definitely made mealtime run a lot less smoothly and made meals much less interesting and varied. So I've determined that I'm jumping back into the swing of following a meal plan starting Monday morning–and I think my whole family is going to be very grateful!

I am new to couponing and I have read about single check rebates. Can anyone tell me what that is and how you get it?
I had a pretty good trip considering I bought meat, soy milk, and lots of produce!
Great Target trip!

3 Glade Scented Oil Candle refills free with purchase of tins
Wow – that’s some great savings! Just thought I would share a tip in relation to the meat comment above – we buy our meat in bulk when it goes on sale at the local grocery store. For example, I stocked up on Angus London Broil a few weeks ago when it was on sale for just $1.49 lb!! Last week, we stocked up on Angus Chuck Roast that was also on sale for just $1.49 lb. This week, we bought a few packages of fresh boneless pork chops that were on sale for buy one, get TWO free – ended up being $1.25 lb. I break up the bulk buys into individual meal sizes (2 chops per since there are just 2 of us who eat them), seal them in airtight bags, mark them, and store them in our freezer for use over the upcoming months. And no, we don’t have a big freezer – but if you package the meat properly, it really doesn’t take up much space. I hope that is helpful.
So, what was your menu from the stuff you bought up there?
Just curious!!! I don’t like to eat those kind of packaged foods much…, but am curious how you use them in meals?
I see cereal for breakfast, chicken for dinner and fruit and bars for lunches and snacks…..do you have alot of other stuff like eggs etc already this week?
I like the weekly grocery deals post! Its very motivating to keep making my rounds to the stores. This week my grocery bill was under $10. I am so proud and yes, I did the coupon dance too. 🙂
Crystal-
I have a question. I was shopping the other day and I noticed ground turkey and turkey sausage on sale. I don’t usually buy those products so I didn’t know if it was a “real sale”. What is a good price for ground turkey? Thanks a lot!
Oops! I meant “around” not “arond”! Typing one handed… baby nursing keeps other hand busy!
Thank you so much for all of the work you put into helping us save money! I shop for my family and my daycare, and used to spend arond $220-$250 per week. After meal planning and couponing for just a few weeks, I am spending around $150 or less per week! I’m sure that I can improve from that as I get more coupons saved up.
I really wouldn’t worry about missing out on the honey sunshine cereal at Target because in my opinion, it’s gross. My hubby liked it okay, but I don’t think I’ll be buying it again. Luckily I had other Kashi coupons so I only used one coupon for honey sunshine.
Crystal,
We got those Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers and added fresh tomatoes, grilled corn and black beans to the Southwestern one to give it a little more nutrition content! It was SOO good!
Can I ask where you make your bulk purchases at? I’d love to buy wheat berries/flax seed, ect, but have yet to find an Amish store, or other source near me. I’ve searched pretty extensively online, with no results, and I’ve posted questions here several times, with no response. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!
Every Target I visited this week was out of the Honey Sunsine cereal… I was kind of bummed and skipped the Kashi promo bacause I couldn’t get my hands on Honey Sunshine, but I have more important things to do than be at Target monday morning, so oh well! =) I’m sure a good price will come up for me to use my $1.50 coupons.
I have a Dillons so I am wondering what that is in the photo – looks like some kind of bar?

Money Saving Mom here: Traci, sorry I didn’t have a chance to write out all the specifics of the deals today. Those are Mojo Dipped Clif bars which are on sale for $1. I had a bunch of $0.50/1 coupons from organic coupon booklets so they were free after the coupons doubled.
Crystal, I am just curious…does your family only go through one gallon of milk a week? If so…HOW?????? 🙂 We go through 3 gallons and we have 3 kids the same ages as yours.

Money Saving Mom here: We actually only go through around 1/2 to 3/4 of a gallon per week–unless I’m doing lots of baking or we’re eating lots of cereal.
The long and short of it is that we don’t drink much milk at all. Milk allergies run in both of our families, so we’ve not encouraged our children to be milk drinkers. We get our calcium from a variety of other sources (yogurt being one of the biggest sources) and just use milk for baking, on cereal, and only do I occasionally give the girls a glass or two of it.
I usually buy milk reduced and freeze it for baking. If I don’t have any frozen milk to use in baking, I often water it down to use in baking as this extends it by quite a bit. (You can water it down up to 50% without noticing a great deal–though I’d recommend slowly building up to that!)
How much are the kashi at walmart?
Walgreens paid me $33.63 to take over $100 worth of products – and that was in ONE DAY! http://mistysmoneymatters.blogspot.com/
