Welcome to my weekly Book-ish post where I share what I’ve been reading and watching recently. If you missed it, you can see my Reading Goals for 2018 and 44 Books I Plan to Read This Year.
What I Read This Past Week
After reading and loving Emotionally Healthy Spirituality, I was eager to read this followup book called The Emotionally Healthy Woman. While I didn’t necessarily agree with every tiny little thing in it and think you need to remember to not take anything in the book to an extreme, I felt like there were some really great nuggets of truth in this book.
A big thank you to my friend, Melissa, for letting me borrow this book and for encouraging me to read it in the first place.
What I Watched This Past Week
Jesse was in Peru this past week, so I was flying solo as a parent. Which meant I didn’t have much extra time for watching anything myself. But the kids and I did watch the next three episodes of Designated Survivor together. We really enjoy that show.
(Note: It’s definitely a more action-packed show geared for adults and it might be scary to some kids who are sensitive. Silas doesn’t usually watch it with us because it’s a bit too scary for him.)
Time to Read
People are always asking me how I find time to read. Honestly, it’s because I love to read, because I’ve chosen to prioritize it, because I don’t have a lot of other hobbies, and because I can’t not read. Also, when you love something, you usually can find ways to get creative to find time to fit it in — even if it’s in the little nooks and crannies of life.
I wrote a post on 3 ways to find more time to read — even when life is busy. And here are 7 more ways to find time to read.
Oh my are those your nails???? Gorgeous??????
I’m currently reading “1984” for the first time. I haven’t decided yet if I like it or not, but I am interested in seeing how it ends for the gentleman that the book is about, so I guess that is something. I’m trying to spend my reading time on books that aren’t just “fluff” like I usually read.
I don’t have a lot of time to read continuously throughout the year, but I do find that baseball season is a great time for me to catch up on some reading while I’m waiting on practices and such. Since the season just started, I just finished The Awakening of Miss Prim and am diving into Hidden Figures. Neither are what I expected and neither are home runs, but I am enjoying both!
Our family hasn’t watched any movies together lately, but some family-friendly options on Amazon Prime caught my eye, especially with spring break coming in a couple weeks: The Really Big Flip (my son loves those shows!), Big Pacific, Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn, River Monsters, etc.
Thanks so much for sharing!
I’m currently reading Anxious for Nothing by Max Lucado. I’m also studying through the book of Romans with my Bible study group. The children and I are reading The Boxcar Children aloud and working through the Five in a Row curriculum. We are loving it so much!
I’m currently reading We Two: Victoria and Albert. I adore British history, but unless someone is particularly interested in history I’m not sure they would find it such a fantastic book. I love Victoria’s devotion to her husband – it’s just such a beautiful picture of love. Ok I’m done ?
Designated Survivor is a family favorite too. Something we all watch together. We’re all eager for the next episode.
Confession: I started reading a book a few weeks ago and have not finished it yet. It’s called the Automatic Customer.
In addition, I’ve been reading Hebrews in the Bible, and it has been a huge blessing to me. Hebrews 11 speaks of the faith of Old Testament saints, and it really reminded me what I heritage I have, faithful Christians “of whom the world was not worthy.”
Hi Crystal,I am currently reading, In Shock, My Journey From Death To Recovery And The Redemptive Power of Hope by Dr. Rana Awdish. It is her life story about how she had a medical emergency that altered her life and her whole perspective on the medical field where she works. I can hardly put it down and am looking to finish it tonight.

I just reserved it online from my library. I love seeing the different recommendations on here, and read Three Little Words this week because of your posting. Fantastic!
Oh yay! That makes me so happy!
I must say, you’ve done a great job of not biting your nails! They look great 🙂
Thank you so much! I’m so excited that I feel like I have totally kicked the habit. In fact, I’m never even tempted to bite them anymore! Having them painted all the time has been HUGE in helping with that, plus deep heart work and changing my diet/lifestyle that has significantly lowered my anxiety!
Way to go Crystal! Your nails look fabulous and I applaud you since I’m a former nail biter myself and I know how hard it is to kick the habit. 🙂
I was thinking the same thing!! Just lovely, no doubt reflecting all the hard work you’ve been doing on the inside too. 🙂
I’m in week 13 of my chronological Bible and am currently reading EntreLeadership for the 2nd time.
Recently finished the Tale of Desperaux. I also put Daring to Hope on pause so I could reread Entreleadership, but am looking forward to picking that one back up!
I’m currently reading Mr. Popper’s Penguins (a favorite!!!) out loud to my kids and we’re listening to the Action Bible as a family.
What FUN books!
I’m just starting to reread Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret, one of my favorites.
I’m also reading Jeremiah, from the Bible. Chapter 2 really stood out to me tonight.
And I’m still reading the second Secret Zoo out loud to the kids.
Oh, that Hudson Taylor book is good!
