Welcome to my weekly Book-ish post where I share what I’ve been reading and watching recently. If you missed it, you can see my Reading Goals for 2018 and 44 Books I Plan to Read This Year.

Last week, I read a pre-release copy of It’s All Under Control by Jennifer Dukes Lee. This book comes out in September and, like the author’s previous two books, it’s well worth the read!
Here’s the endorsement I wrote for the book:
Jennifer is a weaver of words and a master of metaphors — and she’s done it again in her third book! If you constantly carry around anxiety and stress because you’re afraid something won’t go according to plan, this book is for you!
In her gentle but powerfully convicting style, Jennifer gives you tools and inspiration to help you let go of your need to try to control and micromanage your life and everyone else’s life. In this refreshingly honest book, you’ll discover how to find freedom from being a control freak!
Jesse and I went to see Chappaquiddick using our Movie Passes. It was a sad but fascinating film. Here’s more information on it:
In the riveting suspense drama, CHAPPAQUIDDICK, the scandal and mysterious events surrounding the tragic drowning of a young woman, as Ted Kennedy drove his car off the infamous bridge, are revealed in the new movie starring Jason Clarke as Ted Kennedy and Kate Mara as Mary Jo Kopechne. Not only did this event take the life of an aspiring political strategist and Kennedy insider, but it ultimately changed the course of presidential history forever.
Through true accounts, documented in the inquest from the investigation in 1969, director John Curran and writers Andrew Logan and Taylor Allen, intimately expose the broad reach of political power, the influence of America’s most celebrated family; and the vulnerability of Ted Kennedy, the youngest son, in the shadow of his family legacy.
When I Find Time to Read
People are always asking me how I find time to read. Honestly, it’s because I love to read, because I’ve chosen to prioritize it, because I don’t have a lot of other hobbies, and because I can’t not read. Also, when you love something, you usually can find ways to get creative to find time to fit it in — even if it’s in the little nooks and crannies of life.
I wrote a post on 3 ways to find more time to read — even when life is busy. And here are 7 more ways to find time to read.
It is not going to be released until the fall, but I was excited to see the other half of the “Unbroken” book is going to be made into a movie.
YES! We just saw a preview for that at the theater yesterday! I was excited about it, too!
That book sounds right up my alley. I am definitely a bit of a control freak so I am sure I could benefit from reading it. Also, I had not heard of Chappaquiddick until now, but after reading this I feel like I have to see it. I’m from MA, so the Kennedy’s are big around here. Thanks for the recommendation.
I’d love to hear what you think of it if you watch it!
Crystal. This may not be the place to ask but I value your opinion. I am a single mother of 2 with a full time job, 2 side gigs and volunteer commitments. I also love to read but I find myself scrolling facebook TOO many times a day. Do you have any hints for helping me kick this habit?
THANKS
Helen
Maybe set specific times to get on FB? OR, delete it from your phone or device? OR, what about having an app installed that blocks it except for certain times?
Crystal, my daughter and I are doing a great Bible study using a new book, Why Her? by Nicki Koziarz. If you have trouble comparing yourself to other people, this is a very good study! (Not fluff) We are learning so much!
I think I need to read the Jennifer Lee book, too!
Thanks so much for sharing!
