Looking for a free dietitian online or online nutritionist consultation covered by insurance? I have been LOVING my Nourish dietitian and this is my completely honest review! Truly — it’s been life-changing for me!
This One Small Step Has Been Transforming My Health (and It’s Covered by Insurance!)
Are you wanting to make healthy changes in your diet but don’t know where to start? Struggling to hit your health goals or feeling overwhelmed by trying to stay on track?
In the summer of 2025, I made a decision that I honestly didn’t expect to have such a big impact. I signed up to meet with a Nourish dietitian.
Not because I had a big health goal or some drastic change in mind, but because I was feeling a little stuck. I had been working out more, trying to be mindful of what I was eating, and wanting to better support my body through this full season of life.
I figured it couldn’t hurt to get a little expert insight, especially since Nourish is fully covered by insurance under our plan.
Honestly, I expected to get a few helpful tips on calories and macros. I didn’t expect it to shift so much of how I view my body, my energy, my relationship with food, and even how I approach rest and recovery.
But it has. And I’m so grateful. Let me tell you more about my honest experience with Nourish…
What Is Nourish?
Nourish is a virtual platform that connects you with an online registered dietitian — someone trained to help you with everything from emotional eating and hormone health to energy levels and gut issues — all from the comfort of your own home.
Instead of handing you a one-size-fits-all meal plan or a strict list of foods to avoid, your Nourish online dietitian walks with you step-by-step. They listen to your goals. They help you build habits. They offer insight on how nutrition, sleep, stress, and movement work together. And they empower you to nourish your body well — without shame, restriction, or overwhelm.
My Completely Honest (+ Very Vulnerable) Nourish Dietitian Review
To be honest, I was hesitant at first. I wasn’t sure I needed an online nutritionist consultation. I wondered if my health goals were “big enough” or if it would be worth the time.
But I also knew I wanted to take better care of myself. I felt a little foggy some days. I wanted accountability and clarity, and deep down, I wondered if I was giving my body what it needed to thrive.
That first call with my Nourish dietitian? It blew me away.
She helped me understand how the stress and depletion of the last few years — pregnancies, nursing, fostering, adopting a child with disabilities, caregiving, running a business, and raising six kids — had left me running on fumes. She walked me through how under-eating and under-sleeping were actually slowing down my metabolism and affecting my mood and hormones.
She didn’t guilt me. She didn’t overwhelm me. She encouraged me and gave me clear, simple steps I could take that very week.
What I’m Learning from My Nourish Dietician
Every session has been eye-opening. Not because of some radical overhaul… but because of how freeing and healing it’s been to undo old beliefs.
My dietitian has helped me:
- Identify and challenge long-held beliefs about food and weight.
- Realize how often I’ve equated worth with a number on the scale.
- Shift from restriction to nourishment.
- Take baby steps toward what she calls “food freedom” — where food supports your life, not controls it.
It’s emotional work, too. But so, so worth it.
Finding Food Freedom
After I started eating more (at the encouragement of my dietitian), I discovered that it was a big struggle for me. I realized I had a lot of fear around food and had put a lot of stock into what the scale said. My joy or frustration for the day and how I felt about myself was often very tied to whatever number the scale showed that day.
One of the big things my virtual dietitian encouraged me to do was to stop weighing myself. This was scary — but it ended up being SO freeing!! It took awhile to get used to, but once I did, I began to feel a whole new world open up for me!
I discovered that I had spent years trapped in a cycle of so much food noise in my head — constantly analyzing calories, pushing myself to exercise more, thinking I needed to lose weight, chasing skinny, mentally beating myself up if I didn’t follow the diet plan I had come up with for myself. I did all of this under the guise of self-discipline when it actually was dysfunctional!
I am slowly finding such freedom when it comes to food. My brain feels much quieter around food and it feels weird but also so amazing!! I love that I can find joy in food and eating without needing to constantly analyze, stress, or feel like I’m not where I need to be.
I’m chasing strong not skinny, nourishing myself not a number on the scale — and it’s been incredible!
Taking My Wellness Even Further
Recently, my dietician has been challenging me with practical ways to prioritize more sleep and to prioritize play. She’s having me try out better bedtime routines and try out different hobbies. It has been so good for my soul… and I feel like meeting with her is therapy for my whole self!
I’m also SO excited because Nourish is now offering lab work as part of their program and it’s covered by insurance for most people, as well! So just like you can hire a dietitian through Nourish and most insurance companies will pay for it, you can also now have lab work done as part of the program and it’s $0 cost to you if your insurance covers it!
The Nourish Lab panel checks the most important data for your metabolic and heart health — cholesterol, blood sugar (A1C), kidney function, electrolytes, and thyroid hormones. This is all so helpful because this data enables you and your dietician to make more informed decisions as you collaborate to improve your diet and health, and it provides another way to measure your progress. These labs are done at a Quest Diagnostics location near you and are fully covered every 3 months at no cost to you, providing up to $200 per year in value.
I had a metabolic panel done and it was so easy to do, the results came quickly, and my dietitian went over it with me. Best of all, it was entirely covered by insurance!
Making the Most of Your Free Dietitian Online
If you decide to sign up (which I highly recommend if you’re curious!), here are a few tips to make the most of your online nutritionist consultation:
- Track your eating, movement, and sleep for a few days ahead of your first call (I used MyFitnessPal and my Oura ring).
- Bring questions or struggles you want help with — even small things like “I snack all day and feel tired after lunch.”
- Share your health history (I even brought my bloodwork to our second session!).
- Be honest and open — this isn’t about perfection, it’s about progress.
How Much Does a Session Cost with a Nourish Dietitian?
If you’re wondering what a Nourish session might cost, here’s the exciting news: 94% of users pay $0 out of pocket when they use insurance!
That’s right! You have a very good chance of being able to meet with a free dietitian online — right from the comfort of your own home. How cool is that?!
I have been sharing about Nourish for the past few months or so as I have been using it and benefiting from it. Here’s what one my my readers had to say about their experience after giving it a try:
“I tried Nourish because of you and it has helped me SO MUCH!! I’m overweight and I’ve never had anyone teach me how I’m supposed to eat to be healthy and fuel my body, until now…and I’m 45 years old. Any my insurance has been paying 100%!!! Thank you for sharing. It’s been life changing for me too. I’m so thankful.”
I would say that number they give is quite accurate as the majority of my audience is also finding that Nourish is covered by their insurance, too.
That said, every insurance plan is a little different — some may have a small copay or coinsurance — but Nourish does everything they can to keep your costs low and offers a simple insurance coverage calculator to help you know what to expect ahead of time.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Most people pay nothing. Yes, really! The majority of users don’t pay anything out of pocket because Nourish is in-network with hundreds of insurance plans across all 50 states.
- You can check your coverage easily. Nourish makes it super simple to verify your insurance and see if there may be any copays or fees.
- No surprise bills. What your insurance says is what you’ll pay — no hidden costs or unexpected fees. All appointments are backed by the Nourish Guarantee to provide a no-surprise billing experience! Note: One of my followers was told that her insurance would cover Nourish and then that ended up not being the case. Nourish zeroed out her balance and didn’t charge her anything for the two sessions she had because of their Nourish Guarantee.
- Paying out of pocket? If your insurance doesn’t cover sessions, the self-pay rate is $145 per session — and you’ll know that up front.
Why I Recommend It
If you’re:
- Feeling stuck with your health goals
- Battling low energy or brain fog
- Walking through a tough postpartum season
- Wanting to build a better relationship with food
- Or simply needing some gentle accountability…
I highly recommend checking out Nourish. This is one of the most grace-filled, personalized things I’ve done for myself in a long time.
What Others Are Saying
As you can see, I’ve really enjoyed Nourish but you don’t have to just take my word for it! Here are some messages and feedback I’ve received on social media and email from those who tried Nourish for themselves and shared the experience:

Yep! Most insurance plans cover it 100% and you’ll pay nothing out of pocket!

Thank you for sharing! I signed up and am excited for it. The only thing I’m hesitant is to fill out my credit card number. Do you think that’s going to be required? So far it’s saying it’s $0 for my appointment.
I have been desperately seeking a dietitian for about two years now. Unfortunately I am part of the whopping 6% of people that are not covered by insurance for Nourish. While I was told up front I was covered, I made the appointment and was later told they could not talk to me unless I was self-pay. The fees are way out of my ability to pay. And my insurance offers absolutely no benefits in this area. I really wish there were more options for people who sincerely need nutritional guidance.
Did you check Fay? They are another option that some insurances cover!
Update! I am losing weight with the help of my dietician. More than that, as someone who has struggled to lose weight for a long time, I often felt shame and guilt with food. Not any more! When my dietician said I can have dessert every day, I explained that there is no way. I have no self-control. She has been by my side(and I love how we can message them in between sessions!) and guides me so that I can have success and learn self-control without feeling bound. So, yes, I am eating foods I enjoy WHILE losing weight. I am learning not to fear food but to eat in such a way that I am truly full, happy, and healthy. Truly–thank you for posting and sharing!
I love this!! I am SO proud of you!!
Thank u so much for this info! I’m going to see if my husband will sign up. And maybe me. He’s allergic to beans, peas, legumes, nuts and especially peanuts. He doesn’t eat fish and has decided he doesn’t really like chicken. He has a large gut, like a beer belly, even though he doesn’t drink. 38 years married and I don’t have all the answers for him, even tho I am very health conscious. Thanks!!
You are so welcome!
It sounds like a great opportunity. Unfortunately, our state Blue Cross Blue Shield does not cover it. I would have to pay $145 per session.
You could check with your insurance to see if there is any program that they do cover. Hopefully they have one!
Thank you so much for sharing this experience Crystal! I so relate to you when you say you have so much fear around food!! I think I do too but I’ve just never thought about it like that.
I am so happy you had a great experience. I am a nourish dietitian and love helping people develop a better relationship with food.
Oh yay! I love that!
I used it and loved it when my insurance covered it too! I told my dietitian when I was going to have to stop because I was so bummed, and she told me it’s all AI generated meal plans and advice! Of course it’s not the same as having a real human who genuinely cares about you, but I’ve continued with Chat GPT and am having the same results! Just an idea for those who would have to pay out of pocket.
Thanks for sharing that tip! -Jordan, MSM Team
ChatGPT is pretty incredible! And yes, their app is AI, as are most diet apps! But I love the one-on-one personalized coaching aspect because it has changed my life! However, if you are just looking for a meal plan, then I definitely think ChatGPT is a great resource for that (I don’t have a meal plan with my dietitian because I make my own/decide my own eating plan based upon some parameters and encouragement she gives me).
My insurance didn’t cover at all, unfortunately.
You could also check Berry Street or check with your insurance to see if they have a provider they cover.
Thank you for this recommendation! I have met with dieticians in the past and have been given poor advice. But I still tried Nourish, and the dietician I selected understands perimenopause/hormones and has not judged my food allergies or intolerances. I have met with her twice and can’t wait to try her suggestions, which are really things I’m already doing — just in a better way. Thank you!!
Oh yay!!! That makes me so happy to hear!
Thank you for sharing this. I signed up last month & have learned a lot. There have been many suggestions the dietician from nourish has suggested that helps me feel healthier now after only a few weeks. I look forward to more visits for my health journey. I have recommended it to my friend its that good.
Oh yay!! This makes me so happy to hear!
I have my first appt on Tuesday! Insurance covers 100%.
Yay!! That’s so exciting! -Jordan, MSM Team
Woohoo!! That make me SO happy!
I’m so happy for you! Thank you for all your money-saving ideas!
I joined for myself and have an appointment this week. Last week I had my son meet with a nutrionist as well. He’s tall and thin and wants to bulk up for basketball. HE’s also a very picky eater so I figured a few meetings with a nutritionist wouldnt hurt.
So far my son’s appointment was covered and I even got the insurance EOB and there was nothing for me to pay!
Oh! I LOVE that you had your son meet with a nutritionist! Silas has been meeting with someone to help him bulk up and it’s made a HUGE difference! (He has gained 30 pounds and is so much stronger and more muscular!)
I so appreciate you posting about Nourish. I signed up thanks to you! Still waiting on the official word, but it is estimated to be completely covered. I have only had 2 sessions.
My honest review with just 2 sessions:
*Fluffy girl, here! Food is my go to for stress relief, when I’m happy, sad, bored, and everything in between. I don’t enjoy healthy foods like I do junk food. I don’t enjoy meat much unless it is lathered in amazing sauces(which aren’t so amazing for you).
*I am overweight, have PCOS, and have tried probably most “things” whether officially or with friends(Calorie counting, Cronometer and Nutrition Coach, Noom, Slim Fast 😆). I have had successes but never long-term. So I am hoping to gain skills sets to move forward with lifelong success.
What I LOVE:
The app is amazing. I take pictures of my plate of food or snack instead of entering macros(fast and mostly accurate). My nutritionist was able to review my meals and explain the whys or my good choices and educated me on how to read nutrition labels(never had I ever!) to meet my nutritional goals. I had only ever focused on calories and/or food allergies. Maybe macros from an app but never really paying attention to food labels.
My nutritionist gives me easy and doable goals that I agree to for the week. It’s added to the app, so I see them and can aim to do them. She reviewed them with me and cheered me on for what I did well and encouraged me by saying, “We’ll get there!” with some of the things I struggled on(he-hem…good snack choices). Since my struggle is snacks, she shared how to pick nutrient dense snacks. She screenshared ideas of snacks(two columns and a pick one of each…making me feel in control). All that she shares she sends in a message on the app so I have the visual to keep. So I was able to pick a snack tonight that hit my fiber and protein goals. And I liked the snack!
It is very non judgemental and personal. It’s like food therapy! The Zoom calls for the meeting are easy to navigate even on my phone.
Nourish reminds you via email and text about your upcoming meeting and provides the link to easily join the meeting. They make it all very easy to do.
I LOVE how she emphasized that each person’s goals are different and each person measures success differently. Some use the scale. Some use how their clothes fit. It really is personalized for each person.
Thank you for sharing your experience and propelling me into mine!
Oh yay!!! This makes me so happy to read! I’m over here cheering for you on your journey!!
Thank you! Cheering for you, too!
I have my second session tomorrow. Insurance covered my first session 100%. I am excited to see how we move forward from here after our “get to know you” session. I am ready for change.
Woohoo!! I have found that bringing a list of things I want to talk about/questions I want to ask is so helpful!
It isn’t covered for me in CA 🙁
If you ever change to a different insurance, definitely check again!
Do you have an email address for customer service? I don’t see my insurance covered in the drop-down page and would like to verify over email or phone. I can’t find any direct contact info on their website.
I don’t — I would recommend going through the steps to set up an appointment and it should show you during that process.
they texted me when I didn’t schedule an appointment and when I said it was because I wanted to know the coverage and cost ahead of time, they told me they submit to my insurance after the first session and then they know. And that if it was NOT covered, I was not paying anything for any sessions I already had. So it really does seem completely risk-free to try. I haven’t done it yet though.
There was one follower who accidentally got an email saying hers was covered when it wasn’t. They covered her two appointments that insurance didn’t cover and charged her nothing. If anyone has any issues, please let me know as I have a direct contact there and we can (hopefully) resolve any possible billing issues that come up. That said, I would always double check to make sure on your insurance side that there aren’t co-pays or other fees. But they have been very upfront with me in the emails they’ve sent about how the coverage will work and what is covered, etc.
It looks so fun but it’s not covered by Aultcare in Ohio (my husband’s employer’s insurance) and is way too expensive to self pay
Oh bummer! If you ever switch insurance, definitely try again!
That’s really cool for you! I tried to sign up in CA with Kaiser, which wouldn’t be covered.
