I’m currently challenging myself to stick with a $70 grocery budget for our family of five. This includes almost all of our breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and dinners + most household products (toiletries, laundry soap, etc.).

Kaitlynn had her end of school Awards Day all morning on Tuesday morning, so I didn’t get any freezer cooking done. But I did find some great deals at Kroger!
I was going to do the Buy 4, Get $4 Off Deal, but I only had 3 ALL laundry detergents and our store didn’t have the the razors I was going to buy, so I hopped onto KrogerKrazy.com on my phone in the store to see if there were any new deals that had popped up since the last time I checked.
And low and behold, there was a hot tip about how Kraft barbecue sauce was marked down (for one day only!) to just $0.25 each when you buy 4 participating items — no coupons needed!
So, of course, I grabbed some of them up! I decided to get 5 bottles because I think that will last us for at least 3-5 months.
Note to self: Always remember to check KrogerKrazy.com when I’m in-store so I don’t miss a hot deal tip!

I so wish we had an Aldi or a Kroger within 250 miles of our house but we don’t.
I have major deal envy! There are perhaps one or two deal bloggers for one of our local grocery stores but there aren’t anything like the deals you’re posting about.
I bet you have some amazing things where you live that we don’t have here. There are pros and cons to living everywhere, aren’t there?? 🙂
You’re right. I’m a stone’s throw from the Atlantic Ocean and live in one of the most beautiful parts of the U.S. But also, sometimes I want a really super deal on groceries! There are trade-offs.
My hubby and I have been making more of an effort to shop from the discounted items. Except I have 2 pkts of hamburgers sitting in my freezer, as hubby found them 72% off. Awesome deal but had to ask whether he realised what he had bought. Camel burgers – yes they are made from camel meat. Trying to get up the courage to try them. 🙂
Oh wow!!! I want to know what those end up tasting like!
Mind me asking where you got that adorable dress?
I was at Frys (Kroger) last week and got stuck in the buy X save X conundrum because there was only 1 item I wanted left. I went to the customer service and they offered to discount the item I wanted to match the price that it would have been if I bought the required amount or to give me a rain check for the additional amount of items I would have needed to make the deal. They were very friendly and happy to help!
Meal idea: I love to take bone in chicken, season it well, and grill it until it’s nicely seared (browned and good grill flavor). Then I layer it in a crockpot with BBQ sauce, add sliced onions on top, and cook them on low for 5 – 6 hours. By dinner time they are super soft and falling apart. And so delicious!
I love these posts. I used coupons a lot in the past, but my life has been so crazy and I got out of the habit of using them. These posts have really encouraged me to look for markdowns and sales and shop seasonal things(like BBQ sauce in the summer when it is super cheap instead of in the winter when it is full price) Thank you so much for taking the time to post your grocery trips.
I appreciate these money saving grocery posts! 🙂 I like the Aldi ones the best because there are two Aldis within ten minutes of me! (Plus a Dollar Tree and a Lidl grocery store.) The closest Kroger is two hours away, but I still appreciate you showing how you saved money on your groceries! I think I’ll be shopping more at Aldi in the future!

My husband and I went to Kroger last night. I do not care for the buy X to save X. Because if they don’t have one item you have to regroup. I picked up the wrong razors so my coupons wouldn’t work. If I had them take them off, it would have messed everything up. My list was 2 toilet papers/2 razors. I wound up spending $84. Oops. But I’m still under on my monthly totals. That included 3 whole pork loins, 3 packs of marked down pre-cooked bacon for $1.89 each, and 2 packs of marked down wholly guacamole singles for $2.99 each. I had never had pre-cooked bacon and wish I had bought more and froze it after I tried it this morning. I cooked the first pork loin today with cumin and green chilies for pork tacos. Enough in the freezer for 2 more meals with leftovers for my lunch the next day. Will have to add krogerkrazy.com to my pages to check.
P.s. I ordered the book. Thanks for the suggestion.
I find it helps to have a fall-back plan with the buy x sales. There’s usually something on the sale that I consider to be a good price – 49 cent pasta or 99 cent goldfish crackers or Kleenex – and I will just fill in with those items if something I planned on isn’t available.
