In 2025, I’m changing up the way I set goals. Instead of setting yearly goals, I’m going to set monthly goals. Every month, I’ll be sharing a list of my new goals for the coming month and an update on how I did on the goals from the month before.

I felt like this approach would allow more flexibility for the unexpected and the unknown that this coming year might hold. It also gives a fresh start at the beginning of every month. And it will allow me to tailor goals to the month and what I might know it might already hold (meaning some months I know I’ll have more time and space than other months).
To categorize my goals, I’m using alliteration and five areas that I feel are where I want to prioritize and be intentional with my time and energy:

My Goals for January 2025
Myself
- 100 hours unplugged. (More on this coming in my Word of the Year post this week.)
- Go through SheReadsTruth Genesis study.
- Finish reading Word Before World devotional.
- Finish 6 books. (More on this in my post on my Book Stack for January post.)
- 30 hours outside.
- 5 hours on embroidery.
- 20 workouts. (Jesse put together a simple workout plan with 10-minute workouts for me for 6 days a week.)
- To bed by 10:30 p.m. 20 nights.
- 500 items decluttered.
- Lose 1 pound. (My goal for 2025 is to be intentional about losing the last few pounds of postpartum weight I’ve been carrying around for the past few years since our two unexpected pregnancies.)
- Walk 7,000 steps at least 25 days.
- Make homemade vanilla. (More on this coming in my post on 12 Things I Want to Learn in 2025 tomorrow.)

Marriage
- 2 date nights. (We didn’t finish the ABC date nights in 2024 so our hope is to finish them in 2025!)
- 4 at-home dates.
- Finish both seasons of the show we’re watching.

Motherhood
- Date with each of the older three kids.
- 100 pages read aloud to the younger kids. (We’re reading Little House on the Prairie.)
- Organize our walk-in closet. (The three younger kids currently have all their clothes in it and I want to come up with a better organizational system for it.)
- Read 20 devotionals of How Great is Our God with the younger kids.

MoneySavingMom.com
- Write the introduction and first 2 chapters of my new book.
- Launch 2 budgeting freebies. (First one is coming January 7!)
- Launch brand-new budgeting product. (Coming January 7!)
- Create new product on budgeting for teens.
Money
- Continue to tithe 10% of our gross income.
- Save 10% toward our rental house savings goal for the year.

I’m creating a tracker to track my progress on these goals every day. I used the Strides app last year and it worked well for me, but since I’m doing monthly goals, I’m thinking of trying a physical tracker and will see how that works.
Have you set any goals for 2025? If so, I’d love to hear what they are! Tell us in the comments.

I can find 10 minutes a day. Thank you for sharing
How does this work? I am working out and or walking as my goal
I would love to know what exactly you are doing in your workout plan. 10 minutes sounds like a good starting point for me.
I am interested in the workout plan. Are you willing to share?
I like it but I’m wondering how did you tack 100 hrs of unplugged for the month ?
How can you declutter 500 items? As I can see on your photos, your house is so nice and neat, I can’t imagine you have 500 items to be decluttered.
I haven’t done any decluttering in months and want to go through our books, our closets, our cupboards, our attic, and our basement storage. I don’t think I’ll have any problem coming up with 500 items!
The best place to learn about vanilla is a group called Indri’s vanilla bean group. They also sell bean at highly discounted rates, as low as 5.00 to 8.00 per oz. I buy from them regularly. It takes about 1 oz of beans to 1 cup of alcohol. And about a year to sit. It can get addicting trying different kinds of beans. Have fun.
Thank you so much for the recommendation!
I have a hard time staying on top of the goals I set and then give up.
I’m interested in the workout plan your husband is putting together. Short and sweet but getting you moving.
What shows are you watching together?
Feel free to email me and I’m happy to send you the plan he put together for me! [email protected]
I always look forward to these posts! Thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome!
What shows are you watching?
I will definitely share if we find any great ones! I have a highlight on Instagram where I share our favorites as we watch them if you are interested! I always wait until we are finished to share to make sure I can recommend something.
Love this approach of doing it monthly! It feels less daunting!
Yes!
I love this! I’m planning to also try out monthly goal setting in 2025 and like how you set some goals that are like “20 days this month.” I’d love to see your tracker once you have it made!
I did that last year for the year and it felt so much more doable and realistic!
You always inspire me with your goals!
Thank you for your encouragement!
I’ve been pondering some goals, but I really like your idea of doing it monthly. Maybe I’ll do that instead, as we have some unknowns this year, so it could be more flexible.
I’m excited to see how it goes!!
Excited to hear more about your goals. I loved atomic habits and was able to adapt some goals into my life. For example, taking my vitamins and drinking 100 oz a day. Two small things, but they now truly have become automatic.
Your goals always inspire me to reach higher in my goal setting…I am in a different season of life because we are now empty nesters. So more marriage, adult children parenting , financial, and personal goals…thanks for all your hard work on this site. Been following you since the very beginning 🌻
Aw! Thank you so much for being here for so long!!
My goal is to be more intentional about my goals. Lol. More accuracy!! Can’t wait for your budgeting post about your budgeting product!! I’m so glad you made the leap!! After working with a mentor, I learned my mistake about budgeting. We were not goal-setting on a monthly basis. After going through a full year of FPU, a total of 3 different times ( hosted by different leaders), we still did not understand the conversations needed around goal-setting. It wasn’t until snagging a mentor did we finally understand that goal setting was the key to budgeting. Hope you do a podcast on financial goals…..how to meet them through a budgeting tool. What traits are needed to make a person succeed at budgeting? Anyone can make a budget. That doesn’t mean they will succeed in accomplishing their goal. It’s the same logic as anyone can grab a bow and arrow and shoot the arrow. But it doesn’t mean that they were accurate enough to hit the bullseye. So excited that you made the leap!!!
We have LOTS of budgeting posts and money management posts planned for this year! I’m so excited to finally jump into sharing more about that topic! For those who may have missed my Instagram post where I share why I am finally making this leap to talk more about finance and budgeting outside of grocery budgets, I wrote about it here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DCnjB2ZRt5X/?next=%2Fthemoneysavingmom%2F&img_index=1
I’ve been wanting to learn a foreign language and just started up German lessons!
Also tracking calories on Myfitnesspal.
Great goals!
