How do you determine what to buy at the best price? Do you plan out your menu based upon sales?
Brandy @ The Prudent Homemaker says
Gretchen, I’m guessing the tomatoes are for your salad.
Since lettuce grows in the cool seasons and tomatoes grow in the summer, in my garden, the two are not usually ripe at the same time. I know they taste awesome together 🙂 Something we’ve done instead is to use other toppings on salad when lettuce is ready to be picked (like it is now in my garden): chopped apples, dried cranberries, shredded carrots, or mandarin oranges. You might enjoy those instead of the tomatoes at this time of year. With apples at half the price, that helps the budget, too. We also do just simple lettuce salads as well without any toppings other than dressing.
Gretchen says
Thanks for the great suggestions. We will definitely have to try those options.

Yay for deer meat! My husband got one this past week also and I am looking forward to some sausage. Also, I have purchased the store brand peanut butter and it works great in Crystal’s freezer PB and chocolate chip muffins. yummy!
Mel says
I hope you have used that PB before, many recipes say not to use store brand.
This is coming from me, somebody with very little brand loyalty:->
Gretchen says
That is the only kind of peanut butter we like. I personally can’t stand the kind with added sugar. So I buy the natural kind and the Kroger brand is delicious. 🙂

Great job–AGAIN! I didn’t know Walmart still does Price-Matching…is that nationwide?
Sarah says
Yes, it is nationwide. They also have an app called savings catcher. You upload your receipt and if there was a better price elsewhere it will give you money back. I don’t shop at walmart but my mother loves savings catcher.
