I’m not even sure where I first saw Love Does mentioned. I think it may have been one that Amazon recommended I’d be interested in, based upon other books I’d purchased from them in the past.
Wherever it was, the first time I saw the book, the title and description immediately drew me in. And so, in an uncharacteristic move, I bought the book.
I’m so glad I did.
Bob Goff is a unique, one-of-a-kind man. You’ll pick up on that just by reading the introduction.
He loves life, he loves people, and he’s not afraid of outlandishness or extravagance when it comes to showing love to others. His big heart is contagious.
I often plow through books at a very rapid pace. But I slowly worked my way through Love Does, often reading just a few pages or less at a time. I was touched, inspired, challenged, convicted, and blessed.
Loving others isn’t just words we say; it’s the life we live. It’s giving of ourselves, it’s bringing joy to others, it’s being available to others, it’s dropping everything to be involved in others’ lives. It’s caring, it’s giving, and it’s sometimes doing crazy stuff, all because we love someone else.
If you have a chance to read Love Does, I’d highly recommend it. You might not agree with all of the finer points of Bob’s theology and you might think he’s a bit over-the-top, but I can almost guarantee you can’t help but be challenged to examine how you love others.
See more book recommendations I’ve posted this year here. You can also see all books I’ve read so far in 2012 here.
Have you read any good books recently?

I want to check out “Love Does”. I love reading to grow and that book looks like a good one.
The latest one that I have read which is fantastic is “The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business” by Charles Duhigg. It is incredible and each page was a page turner. For example, did you know that Febreeze’s whole marketing is based on habit. People buy products out of habit more than actual need. And their marketing is working because Febreeze is now a billion dollar enterprise. “The Power of Habit” isn’t just about industry, it is about everything in life.
I didn’t realize just how powerful habits actually were until I read the science behind it in this book. Especially since people aren’t generally aware of how their habits affect them everyday. It is an eye-opening read to say the least.

Just finished Fearless: The Undaunted Courage and Ultimate Sacrifice of Navy SEAL Team SIX Operator Adam Brown by Eric Blehm. It is a wonderful book about just one of the great Americans who has given his life for our freedom. It is also a great example that all things are possible through God and how our strong faith in God and perserverance can help us overcome unbelieveable obstacles to become the person God wants us to be.

Love Does is a wonderful book! Challenging in a good way. I love his delight in “whimsy and capers” and that he’s willing to bring his kids into the forefront of his ministry and allow them to see Love in ACTION. The book continues to roll over in my mind, and has given me a desire to show my love more tangibly.

I LOVED how he involves his kids in what he does — so inspiring!

This is an amazing book. I have passed it on to several non-Christians to hopefully change their preconceived notions on the stuffiness of the church. Excellent read.

Finished “Infinitely More” and “Past Forward” this week, both at your recommendation and loved them both! Can’t wait for the next part of “Past Forward”. Keep us posted and thanks so much for inspiring us all to read more!

I just finished “The Four Loves” by C.S. Lewis, The Penny Pincher’s Almanac, and Hinds’ Feet in High Places by Hannah Hurnard. LOVED the last one! You would really like it too I think. It was written in 1955 but it is still a classic. I think I’m going to start “Surprised by Joy” by C.S. Lewis next. I’m trying to get through all the books on my shelf that I’ve never read. 🙂

Love Does sounds really good! I’m going to add that one to my list! Since your posts about reading ive been getting back in the habit by reading a chapter a day. Have you read Dangerous Surrender by Kay Warren? I was really inspired by it. One of my staple go to books is Janet popes His Word in my heart. Very inspiring to keep me motivated with memorizing the Word. I’m excited to check out your other recommendations for books!

Love that book! Several years ago, as a new believer, God brought that book into my life. He used it to transformed our marriage and brought my husband to salvation! It’s so wonderful to understand our purpose and allow God to change us for His glory.

I knew you’d love it! 🙂 Love Does is my favorite book I’ve read this year; though its position is in jeopardy since I’ve been reading The Circle Maker. Glad you enjoyed!

Ooh, gotta add The Circle Maker to my list now! 🙂

Love The Circle Maker! We were so challenged by it that we are going to use it for our life group this fall.

Sounds like a good read. I read God’s Guest List earlier this year and loved it. Debbie Macomber explained that each person that comes into our life is a gift. They mold and shape our character. They help us be the people God has called us to be. I’m currently reading through (or shall I say listening) to your book and loving it! 🙂

I remember you sharing that quote with me when we met — very convicting and thought-provoking!
