As we celebrate Memorial Day today, I am humbly grateful to the many men and women who have risked and given so much for the freedoms we enjoy in this country.
Thank you — from the bottom of my heart — to the many military families who are readers here. We so appreciate the sacrifices you make on a daily basis to protect and defend our freedoms. We don’t say it enough, but thank you!

I dedicate this day to my grandfather Charles Novak, who gave his life during WWII.
I honor my husband, a Specialist whom served two tours in Iraq Freedom.
And I pray for the families, of his friends whom didn’t make it back.

Thank you so much for posting this, Crystal. My son is leaving for basic training three weeks from tomorrow. I have such a combination of pride and sadness. I wrote some thoughts about it here- http://creating-our-home.blogspot.com/2013/05/preparing-to-say-good-bye.html
I also have a brother Brian currently serving as a flight medic in Afhganistan. It is tough to worry about him knowing the danger he is in. Yet, I am so proud of his sacrificial service.

Congrats on your son! My husband just graduated from Army BCT in April and is now working on his 16 weeks of AIT. It’s a tough journey, but SO worth it when Family Day finally arrives and you get to see your SOLDIER for the first time. 🙂

Crystal,
This memorial day I’m remembering my former roommate and friend, Captain Jennifer Jean Harris, US Marine Corps Aviator, and Naval Academy Class of 2000, from Swampscott, MA. The casualty evacuation helicopter she was piloting was shot down on Feb. 7, 2007. The entire crew gave up their lives in defense of our freedom. She will be forever missed, but not forgotten! Happy Memorial Day dear Jennifa Jean, we love and miss you!
I was attending a benefit dinner “The Red Cross Salute to the Military” with Trace Adkins, and was in my summer white uniform when a man approached and stopped me on the street to shake my hand with a tear in his eyes and thank me for my service.
Some, like Jennifer, paid the ultimate sacrifice, so my sacrifice seems small! Please use this day to remember the families of the fallen who have given so much already!
Sincerely,
LCDR Rosie Goscinski, United States Navy , and dedicated moneysavingmom.com reader

Wow! What a sacrifice. We had a beautiful tribute at our local church- we lowered our flag to half staff, said the pledge of allegiance, and joined in prayer for those families who have lost someone in the line of duty. We also took the opportunity to explain to the younger ones why we truly have a memorial day. We are so grateful for your service and we remember the sacrifices that have been made. Thank you!
