Over the past two years, I’ve really become a fan of essential oils. I know they can kind of feel like a “fad” and I’m not one to jump onto bandwagons.
But as one friend after another friend has told me about how much she was loving essential oils, I finally decided to get over my “I don’t do fads” stance and try them. And I was pleasantly surprised.
I Don’t Have a Miracle Story to Share
No, I’m not here to claim that I have lost 15 pounds, feel ten years younger, and never have to go to the doctor again because of essential oils. I don’t have a miracle story like that to share with you, but I can tell you that:
- I am sleeping better at night because I’ve been religiously putting Peace & Calming on my shoulders before I go to bed.
- I have stayed healthier and warded off at least two full-blown colds/fevers/sore throats by using OnGuard and Oregano on the bottoms of my feet.
- I have loved the smell of Thieves, Peppermint, Lavender, and more wafting through the house in our diffuser.
- I’ve soothed aching muscles by rubbing on Deep Blue.
- I’ve calmed a queasy stomach with DigestZen.
- And I’ve definitely felt more peaceful and relaxed by sprinkling a few drops of Calming the Child, Whisper, Elevation, or Serenity in the tub and soaking in it after a long day.
If you’re familiar with essential oils, you’ll notice that there are a lot of different brands represented in this list above. Some of you may be cringing right now because you realize I’m not sold on any one brand.
Why I Don’t Sell Essential Oils
Here’s the thing: I love essential oils and I’ve seen them work well in so many cases, but I just can’t say that one brand is superior to another brand. Why? Because I personally have benefited from multiple brands.
This is why I could never sell essential oils. Many of my friends do and many of them have made good money doing so. I’m happy for them and their success, but I’m also happy with my decision to use multiple brands.
Do Your Own Research
So many of you have emailed in, commented, or asked me in person for more details on what essential oils I use and why. I can tell that many, many of you are doing your own research and that encourages me because I think there is a lot of misinformation out there and it’s important to study things out for yourself.
Don’t just read a blog post or do whatever it is that someone you know does. Research, read, investigate, and experiment with a few different oils.
Figure out what works best for your family and yourself. Maybe you decide that essential oils just aren’t for you. Maybe you decide you only want to stick with one brand. Maybe you decide to use multiple brands.
Whatever you do, remember that it’s important to do what is best for you and your own family.

Hey Crystal,
Thank you for sharing this post. I just wanted to ask if you’re mixing your oils with carrier oils before you put them in the bathtub and they’re touching your skin? Or if you’re using them with carrier oils before putting them on your body at all? There is a TON of information out there (as you already know) about improper use of essential oils, and your wording on your post has worried me that you could be hurting yourself and not knowing it. If you’re interested there is a group called Safe Use of Eden’s Garden Essential Oils (SUEGEO), it does talk primarily about Eden’s Garden brand, but the safe use for the oils applies to ALL brands. If you’re interested, please join and learn more about how to use them properly. Also, Dr. Robert Tisserand is a well known essential oil educator, and all information by him is incredibly important.
I don’t mean to sound bossy, or to imply that you’re being unsafe, it’s just your wording has worried me, and I want to be sure you are safe. I hope I did not offend.
Respectfully.
Jill

Great article. I wish it was easier to figure out which oils are authentic. I have been using RMO, found them through you when you posted a special by them. So far love them. I haven’t tried the YL/Doterra and they very well may be better, I have no idea, but if I had not found RMO I couldn’t afford to use oils at all. I’m intrigued by the other companies mentioned in the comments edens’s garden & plant therapy are these therapeutic grade? Would love to try different brands but don’t want to wasted money on fake oils either. Any help appreciated!!
Kelly says
I am very interested in oils too and know someone that is a die hard DoTerra lover. The only reason I haven’t jumped on board is the price!! All the ones I would like to try is no where in my budget. Has anyone had experience with Vitality? I don’t know what companies to trust!! I really what to give them a try but I makes my head hurt thinking about it!! lol
Chris Bruno says
Hi Kelly, I have not tried vitality but since my last comment above I have tried some of the oils mentioned in the comments of this article. I ordered a couple from edens garden & one from plant therapy. Their prices are good just like RMO but they also offer smaller sizes which makes it even more affordable which I like if I am trying a new oil for the first time. Seems like there needs to be much trial & error so small sizes help with this. I was happy with all the oils so far & had very good results with the eden’s garden oils I ordered. So I would recommend checking out Rocky Mountain, edens garden, & plant therapy as a start. If you try vitality or any of these please share Your results. Hope this helps!
Nicole says
I LOVE RMO! Their oils are some of the best I have ever used. I also love what the company stands for so it’s a win-win.
Lindsey says
“Therapeutic grade” is technically a term that is trademarked by Young Living. There is nothing to certify oils as such
Debbie says
MLM companies aren’t training and educating their reps with enough true information to be giving advice on using EO’s. The Reps need to be certified. Also MLM companies have to mark up the prices to bable to payout the downlines.

We have asthmatics in our house and have encountered some resistance and denial in friends because Thieves triggered an asthma attack. We do find some oils useful, however, but only through serious research, ingredient labels on synergies, and some not-great experiences have we found what works for us. And with our budget, we find the non-MLM companies like RMO and Plant Therapy to be just right for us. Even though we have a relative who sells DoTerra and ALL of our friends preach Young Living (who can’t believe that the asthma is not cured by oils alone; and how can we have a reaction to Thieves AND Frankincense?!), we just can’t swing it.
Hannah Bond says
Ohhhhhh yeeeesssss!!!!! Same here- I use several different brands. I was thinking about starting to sell one particular brand, but just didn’t have peace. I’ve been doing some research over the past few days and I finally realized why- I have yet to find a brand that gives sufficient instructions/warnings, etc. A doctor (some one who has spent YEARS studying) oversees use of medicine, and then so many people are using oils in place of meds, but have no problem getting advice + direction from someone who’s been using them for mere months. Love the site http://www.usingeossafely.com!! She’s done years of study and is definitely qualified to talk about them!!
Jenn says
I use NOW, Aura Cacia and Nature’s Alchemy 🙂 I don’t support MLM companies so I can’t comment on YL nor DT.
Leslie says
I really love Plant Therapy. I didn’t want to have to join anything and I like their prices and free shipping. I like their kids safe and their blends, the calming the child really helps calm my kids down for bedtime.
Barb says
I only use DoTerra Oils. They are the only oils that have not been cut or synthesized. Other brands are cut with carrier oils or created in a lab. DO oils only come from where they are naturally found, when the crop is done for the year, they dont make fake oils to keep up on the demand.
I dont sell the oils yet, not until I learn more but I sure enjoy using them.
Jenn says
Wow I’m impressed by your words!! ?????? So many feel YL or DT are THE only EO’s to use. I’ve never bought either and I never will due to me not buying into the MLM stance. Thank you thank you thank you for your words of logic and reasoning ❤️❤️
Joe says
As a essential oil producer I can tell you any brand will give you the same results because they all buy their oils from the same distributers who all buy from the same producers. I don’t care how much research you do, or how many advertisements you read, you will never know exactly where your oils came from. Fractionating and blending is performed by the distributer… the brand you’re buying from just puts it in the bottle with a label.
Megan says
THIS! Thank you for telling it like it is. I personally dislike all MLM companies on ethical (and economic) principle, but it drives me batty when folks say things like “oh I trust this MLM brand because of the quality” – nope, you “trust” that brand because of clever marketing. Crystal has it totally right by not being brand-loyal.
Kaycee says
This just isn’t true, sorry. There are companies that have their own distilleries and companies who buy from companies that do and relabel, and there are companies who have 100% oil and then companies that cut their oils with carriers. So they are not all the same.
Stacey Wilson says
Exactly right!!

I love the YL oils. I never heard of them until November 2015.
Bought it, got it but didn’t realize that it was a company that has a down line.
I’m not great of selling products. I did Mary Kay and could never recruit anyone.
But I love the oils. The diet trio has helped with cravings. I diffuse lavender every night and sleep better & use Stress Away on my wrist as well.
I love the fragrance from from the oils in different rooms of my home.
I use their shampoo & conditioner & its makes it easy to brush/ comb my long hair a breeze compared to other brands. …
Thanks for your info. …nice to know how others feel about EO’s.
TRM says
Hi – which shampoo/ conditioner do you use? I haven’t tried one yet but I’m interested!
Jennifer says
What is the diet trio?
Jess says
I agree and disagree as well. I’ve used essential oils for about 15 years which I feel like isn’t so much of a bandwagon. I also use YL because they work the best for me and I love what the company stands for. It wasn’t until everyone started asking me about all the stuff I do with them I decided it was worth doing as a business and it’s been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have a fantastic team that works together and supports one another a tremendous amount which is amazing. I don’t feel like I am selling anything as much as I just teach people about what I am already doing and leave it up to them if it fits their family or not. I love helping others learn and grow.

I love the YL oils and I have a few,but I wander why they do not have a certification that their oils are organic ,since they are the most expansive of all.

I don’t sell other products because they’re not my dream. I used to have an in home shopping biz. But that wasn’t my dream. My dream has always been writing and speaking. I think we have to pursue our own goals and sometimes that means being a consumer. But for me it means not selling other products as a job now. They distract me from my dream 🙂
Brooke says
I agree and I disagree. I really don’t like to have to be a part of a company to sell their oils and because of that I’m limited in what I can tell people about what they do. However, I really appreciate knowing the quality of the oils from Young Living. I also like getting the 24% discount to get the quality that I want.
I’ve been torn for a while. Is it better to have no brand loyalty (losing the 24% off) and yet be able to share freely with my friends about their benefits?
chiane says
I get my oils from edensgarden.com reputable company, not a MLM company and I love their oils. I am currently doing my level one course to become certified aromatherapist by a school that has been approved by the NAHA and I don’t believe in marketing essential oils to make money. I shy away from MLM companies because they want to only simply make money and the two main MLM companies that sell essential oils are not very good at sharing important information like the side effects of oils or the fact that internally taking essential oils is not okay unless advised and supervised by a certified aromatherapist and/or medical professional. So, I decided to take it upon myself and the well being of my family and our budget to stay away from MLM regardless of the discounts because they aren’t really discounts and I don’t trust them with their motive behind marketing. That’s how most marketing companies are. No offense to anyone marketing but it’s true. I know people gotta make money, don’t get me wrong and if you do by selling oils then awesome, but please be educated on what your selling!
Jo says
I COMPLETELY AGREE!!!!
TRM says
Hi! What school are you getting certified in aromatherapy through? Also, how do Eden’s Garden oils compare to YL/DoTERRA, both in price and quality? Thanks!
Stephanie h says
I have used the expensive ones and bought a bunch grin edens garden. Love Them! Love the price even more. I think the quality is similar, though their “thieves” called fighting five, had a different smell since the ratios are different than YL. Started buying the plant therapy version called germ fighter, smells identical to YL, works great and costs less than half…
Michelle says
Thank you for that recommendation! I’m going to check them out. My budget simply can’t handle the YL prices. I ordered 3, just 3, from a friend, and it cost me $70! Yes, I like the oils, but that is too much for me! I need a good, trustworthy brand priced reasonably.
Mendy says
Have you looked into plant therapy and Eden’s garden? The discount might not matter so much. These companies seem pretty amazing. I love the oils I have used from them.

Best blog post EVER about oils!! I absolutely love them and I’ve had great success using them for a lot of things and I’m completely sold on their abilities. I do order primarily from one company but I’ll order from another if “mine” doesn’t have what I need and I’m also in love with Camp Wander’s salves and I have a couple of her oils. I don’t sell oils either because 1) I don’t have any interest in debating who’s a better company, brand, etc. I think they reputable companies are all great companies with a great product. 2) I know what works for me because I’ve researched and experimented and I’m not okay with experimenting with someone else’s body, child, etc. 3) The
FDA has gotten involved lately and I’m definitely not interested in potentially inviting trouble that I don’t need into my life! I love them and I wish everyone would try them but it took me a long time to finally give in (because of the “fad” thing) and I know not everyone can afford them (even though I’ve realized how cheap per drop they really are especially considering how long they last). Which made me think of another reason- 4) I also don’t want to be the annoying “friend” always trying to shove something down someone’s throat!

thank you for pointing it out. i was kinda puzzled at first why all american blogers/DIYers are promoting brands so much not just of essential oils but generally of many products, then i figured it out, there must be money involved. i’m living in Europe and buying american brand is not an option, they are expensive and shipping costs are quite high. i did a mini research regarding EO and i’ve noticed that the cost of young living & doterra are 2-5 times higher to EO that are not so much promoted; i believe that so heavy promotion of a brand must add to the cost of the final EO/product, so basically those who buy heavily advertised brands pay the extra simply for the brand name. I’m using few not that advertised brands of oils depending where they come from and costs and i’m very happy, they do the job they are known to do. thank god there is no so much branding in Europe, EO is an EO, making sure the origin, proper botanical name, grade, date of preparation/extraction, expiry date and that are provided from a company that takes responsibility for it’s products are more than enough.

Go to Aromaheadinstitute.com or aromaticwisdominstitute.com. They have awesome websites and have safety information on using essential oils on children and why. I am currently a student of aromatherapy and some of the inaccurate info out there is downright scary!!! Aromatherapy is all based on science and is safe and effective to use IF you have correct info. I agree,I would urge all to research the oils before using on children and animals. Hydrosols seem to be the safer route to use for them

Thank you for posting this. I have been researching and using essential oils for 20 years. What I have discovered is unbelievable ! There are some well known companys that sell products without properly training their sales team. Several essential oils have contraindication and warnings to their usage, and some oils should NEVER be used on the skin. These oils are being sold anyway !
Buyer Beware ! Research essential oil uses and contraindications from those who are not trying to sell oils. Also, be very careful about buying blends. i have seen some blends containing questionable essential oils.

There is not such thing as clinical grade, therapeutic grade, etc. Essential oils are botanical and vary based on plant variety, country of origin, when they are harvested, and how they are processed. Multi level companies sell micro bottles at ridiculous prices. try companies that supply soapers such as Libertynatural.com or essentialwholesale.com. Liberty natural has spec sheets on most of their oils if you are really into comparing constituents of oils.
Some nice oils for stress in addition to lavender are R\red mandarin, ylang ylang, bergamot.

This was so good to read, Crystal! Thx! We use multiple brands of essential oils and have had success with each! Some family members are very pro a certain brand (and perhaps when money is involved it becomes like that) but I am happy I’m not tied down to just one brand. Thank you for sharing! 🙂

Have you tried Améo essential oils? I’ve used EO’s for 20+ years and have never been loyal to one brand, I’ve used DôTerra, Young Living and what I bought at the health food store but when I was introduced to Améo last fall I became hooked immediately. Their oils are clinical grade, you can smell the difference and if you’re familiar with oils you can tell how much quicker they work than the other brands. Price wise they are comparative to the leading brands, most are a little cheaper but you also use less because of the superior quality.

I absolutely love NAN (Native American Nutritionals). I decided to do my own research because of the way YL took off from nothing to all of a sudden, everyone is pushing it. The fact that it’s a multi-level marketing company put me off too. I stumbled onto NAN through someone who used to sell YL and then found out about NAN and contacted them and did a lot of research. NAN works hand in hand (and in person!) with the growers all over the globe to make sure you are getting the quality they say you are. Their prices are fantastic, they often have several varieties of the same oil but grown in different places so you can choose, and they aren’t a multi-level marketing company. Definitely make them part of your research!! 🙂 http://www.nativeamericannutritionals.com/about_us/

When I used oils casually for fun and for making gifts, etc. I didn’t care either. When I wanted integrated health options, I didn’t want to take a chance on getting a synthetic mixed in with my pure oils, so I am willing to pay what seems like more for a more carefully cultivated and distilled product. That’s me. I don’t take chances with my family’s health.
I have Crohns Disease and I have been able to get off of several medications because of EOs. I wouldn’t do that if I had any question as to the safety, source and purity of oils I was using.

This post will probably stick out as a favorite for me for many reasons. I like the way you shared your personal experiences with EOs, you shared how they have been a beneficial part (oh, how I find it so important to show that they are a part, and work along with so many other things one does) of your and your family’s life, how you shared what has worked for you specifically, and why, through your experiences, you do not recommend only one brand. Your clear, honest explanations and descriptions are so encouraging. I have had some limited experiences with essential oils over the years, and over the last eighteen months have increased my knowledge and experience in this area, and continue to learn and find what works for me and my family. Thank you for your positive, clear, genuine, honest take on essential oils, your experiences with them, and why you present them as you do.

I’ve tried what’s at the health food store, online versions that are “just as good,” organic….it took me over 2 years to take the YL plunge and I am not sorry one bit. NOTHING I’ve tried compares to theirs. As far as price, you get what you pay for. I bought a bottle of organic peppermint today to tide me over until my order gets here. Same price as what YL is and not nearly as potent.

I have no interest in selling either, but gosh, essential oils and homeopathy are about as far as possible as you can get from a “fad!” Trendy, definitely. Fad, no. Essential oil therapy is as old as the hill for a reason — because it works! We’ve been using it in our home since we got married 11 and a half years ago. We’ve used them regularly for allergy relief and relaxation. We’ve used them for healing when nothing else has worked. (I’m a huge fan of elderberry syrup.) I’ve even induced my own full term labor with peppermint oil TWICE and suggested it to another friend at full term. It worked for her too!

I’m so glad you posted this! I get so tired of hearing ‘our oils are the ONLY ones that are safe to use’ when that’s simply not true! It’s like they’re brainwashed and reading from a script. Crystal,
Do you have any tips on how to buy from multiple companies? Amazon maybe? I’d like to try a few you’ve recommended as well as some friends have recommended, but really don’t want the hassle of going through a bunch of different people all trying to share their spiel and hounding me to buy from them all the time. 🙂

I buy mine off of Amazon. I’ve heard reports that some of the oils on Amazon are diluted, but I’ve never had a problem with that.

I agree with taking time to learn about the many choices out there… one caution is to make sure that instructions are carefully followed for each brand. Some are safe to use internally (FDA “Generally Regarded as Safe”) and most are aromatherapy grade only. Which has led to some confusion on how to use oils. Though I am loyal to one brand, it has come from lots of research instead of just taking someone’s word for it. They are an amazing tool when they are good quality and used properly!

The reason it works is that everything puts off a frequency and often an oil will work just by having it close to the body and picking up the frequency. It does sound weird, I completely agree with that, but it does work for many people.

I love plant therapy!! It really irritates me when people say there is only one safe brand. And oh it is a bazillion dollars a bottle but it is the real thing!

I love my oils! Luckily with research I did narrow it down to one. I don’t get in arguments about which is best but I always cringe when I see friends using diluted ones. Not only are they not getting their money’s worth, but they can be harmful. Especially if a little one accidentally ingests it (like my 2 year old did today! Luckily they are 100% pure!) I’ve never been a holistic thinker but I use them daily! Especially peace and calming and lavender. I love the smells that the diffuser emits around the house. Always smells so fresh and clean! The uses are unlimited! Always prepared for cold season with thieves and RC 🙂
RaeAnn Wright says
Andrea, 100% pure really doesn’t mean a whole lot when it comes to safety and toxicity. I would urge you to contact poison control for further instructions. They can check the MSDS for you. Natural or pure doesn’t mean harmless. I don’t want to freak you out but I do know the only deaths that have occurred from using essential oils over the past 30 years of tracking the data have resulted from ingestion and poisoning. I would definitely give poison control a call and I hope your little one is ok!

I signed up as a Young Living distributor to get the starter kit. I never really intended to sell. And let’s face it, there are a ton of brands out there that are cheaper than Young Living. While I will use different brands there are certain oils like thieves oil that I will only use Young Living. I’ve not been able to find any other brands that match the quality of Young Living thieves oil. If my friends and family want to buy Young Living from me then great! My I’m not an oil pusher. Ultimately I want everyone to get the best deal and the best oils.

Lavender around the eyes prevents / treats pinkeye. I completely avoided pinkeye this way and my boys got rid of theirs very quickly with the lavender in conjunction with the antibiotic.

I think this is true about any home sales thing. I’m a WAHM / SAHM mom. I do freelance copywriting from home as an independent contractor. I have other WAHM/SAHM mommy friends and it seems like they are all in the sales thing. It gets frustrating after a while- how many 31 items does someone need? Or cooking utensils? Costume jewelry items? Candles? And so on. There was one acquaintance- a parent of another child in my child’s class at school… she used the class email list that the teacher used to send communications, and she started spamming everyone with sales pitches for her MLM product! I still see them showing up in my spam folder and this was 2 years ago. I guess if you have a passion for the product and can use the parties as a way to get discounts on it, then that’s great. But using friends as a sales base gets frustrating as the weekly party invitations come in. That’s why I don’t sell anything- the constant pitches annoy me and I don’t want to be the one that is annoying others!

Calming the Child is my all-time fav!! I love it!
Samantha says
Amy, does it really work well for you? I just ordered some tonight. Hoping it will help settle my 4 year old for church.
Amy says
You know, it’s my absolute favorite oil because of the scent but I do think it has calming properties. I use it on my son when he is overwhelmed with homework and on my toddler when she is in tantrum mode. I also just got a diffuser and have been diffusing it in the afternoon and it seems to make everyone a little calmer. Not a miracle worker to be sure, but very nice to have around.

I buy one brand of essential oils (to be honest it is the first brand I heard about) and have my favorite oils, but I have no plans on selling. I usually put on Lavender (wrists and back of neck) before going to bed and sometimes Serenity on the bottom of my feet. I definitely sleep better when I do that. I am currently running the diffuser with Purify in it.
Holly @ Holistic Holly says
Love this post! Although I am loyal to one brand specifically and sell that brand as well, I have done a lot of research on essential oils over the past few years and know that there are a few brands that I considered safe for use. I guess I view essential oils like any other product or service. I have my favorite food companies, Internet service, restaurants, etc… even down to a favorite brand of toilet paper. Are there other brands/companies that work? Sure, but I am partial to my favorites! And then of course there are some brands/companies that don’t work & I refuse to use them. Just like anything else, it’s a personal choice. I am thankful I found a company that I trust and whose products I love & can make a little extra income on the side by selling, but I would never sell a product I couldn’t back up 100%. Thanks for staying true to your beliefs! 🙂

Thank you so much for posting this! I love essential oils and like you have been researching and found several brands that are the quality I love. But at times I almost feel ashamed showing my collection to anyone that sells them since I don’t have all of one brand or another and I don’t want to get into an argument about which brand is better. I love that you tell people to research it for themselves. That’s what I did and I’ve discovered several brands that deliver the same quality for less money than some of the brands pushed by sellers. I’m so happy you’ve found a good balance that works for you!

Thank you!! I’m so excited about this bundle!!

I’m glad you posted this. My husband and I are TTC, and recently installed a new diffuser in my bedroom to help create a more zen area for myself; I find that the process we are undertaking is very, very stressful for me. I was hoping others might have suggestions for types of oils to try, or combinations for stress reduction; I use lavender, spearmint, and eucalyptus, but am open to suggestions.
Crystal Paine says
I’m so sorry you’ve been undergoing so much stress! {Hugs!}

I encourage you to try Peaceful by Heritage Essential Oils; this homeschool family sells top quality oils equal to those of Young Living or DoTerra at a much lower price. http://heritageessentialoils.com/peaceful.php
Amanda says
I’d be careful with that one. Traditionally, tansy’s pretty well known as an abortifacient, and not something I’d use when pregnant/trying to get pregnant.
We’ve used various herbs and oils for years, but there are certain ones that need to be handled with extra care, as they can be toxic, or trigger miscarriage.
Julie Carns says
This one is used by another family (that is not going to be getting pregnant!)

Heritage EO’s Peaceful contains Blue Tansy (Tanacetum annum), not to be confused with Tansy (Biological name: Tanacetum vulgare). Blue tansy is safe.

Hi, Thanks for the link. I went and checked it out. However, each of the oils I clicked on were much MORE expensive than YL and Doterra. Just wanted to point that out before someone who didn’t know the prices from the other places and blindly trusted your comment. They do look like they have a nice selection and I like their offers of multiple sizes. I know nothing about their sources or quality of their oils either. Do you?
Jill in Ohio says
If you are referring to Heritage Essential Oils, I think there is a mistake. Their prices are most definitely less expensive than YL or Doterra. There is no way they were more expensive. I have been buying from Linda (Heritage Essential Oils) for more than a year and have regularly compared prices and have never seen any of her prices higher than YL or Doterra. The customer service with HEO is TOP NOTCH too.
Adri says
I’m afraid you are mistaken. I just went and did a price comparison and the oils were significantly more expensive.
Sarah Cook says
often the prices listed on YL/DT are the smaller jars. Heritage lists the 15ml price first which may be more than yl/dt’s 5ml price.
Malissa says
LOVE LOVE LOVE Heritage! The oils are top notch and the service is amazing. I’ve ordered on a Thur after bed time and had oils on my door step Mon a.m.

A bit off topic, but try the Paleo diet (both of you, not just you) if you’re TTC. The number of women getting pregnant, even women in their early 40s, is astounding in this group. Marksdailyapple.com is a great resource, and you can chat with other couples in a similar boat on their excellent forums boards. Best of luck. 🙂
Misty Nicole Overstreet-Roberts (The Lady Prefers To Save) says
I will look into that tonight, thank you!
Donielle @ Natural Fertility and Wellness says
Hey Misty! I’m sorry you’re stressed! TTC can be so tough (I’ve dealt with infertility and loss over many years).
Here is a list of safe oils for pregnancy: http://www.learningabouteos.com/index.php/2013/08/06/essential-oil-safety-during-pregnancy/
And it should be the same for TTC. Also make sure that you’re only diffusing for about 30 minutes or so depending on the oil you’re using, make sure you’re bedroom door isn’t closed, and use them only on nights you need them (vs. all the time).
There are also some EOs that might help with hormone balance (clary sage is often recommended for topical abdominal use, but there are others, and some companies have blends to help the endocrine system.) as well as herbs and dietary changes to heal and assist the reproductive system for both men and women.
More than anything, know that you are not alone. <3 That there are thousands of couples around the nation dealing with the same stress. So make sure to tap into support networks when you need to!
Lana says
Clary sage is one that can help keep labor going so I would research whether that one is safe for trying to get pregnant.
chelsea says
Hi 🙂 just fyi. I’m two months pregnant and researched clary sage. It shouldn’t be used early in pregnancy as it is effective at causing contractions. Not somthing you want early on:) cheers!

Young Living makes a blend called stress-away that is great for stress! Peace and calming (the one Crystal posted about) is also a great one for stress! If I can help you further feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]. I have been using oils for 10 years.
Amy says
I have my favorites, and I recommend you google your specific symptoms or emotions, and you might find that perfect oil for you. I love my oils, and wish you good luck.
Lana says
For hormone balance I would recommend looking into natural progesterone cream. Dr John R Lee Jr wrote several books on the subject. Also it is important for your pituitary gland to be functioning well. Fifteen minutes of sunshine without sunglasses every day can jump start your pituitary gland. I did this a few years ago and I could feel myself healing with every day that I soaked up the sun. A third thought about conceiving is that infection in the gut is a cause of infertility. Every young woman that I know who has or is struggling with conceiving has tummy troubles. I would recommend Heritage Essential Oils Warrior blend on the bottoms of the feet and then cover with socks at bedtime for a period of time for that. Gut problems are generally a bacteria overgrown and Warrior will knock it out. You may also need a good probiotic afterward to rebuild good gut bacteria. One of my daughters struggled with infertility and the pituitary and gut problems were the key. She now has 2 children and we did not think she could ever get pregnant.
DoTerra’s Balance is the most helpful for calming the body that we have found. Our 2 yr old grandson was here a few weeks ago and just miserable and crying because he is getting some new molars. My daughter said, ‘Do you have some get a grip and stop that crying oil?’ I put a drop of Balance on the back of his neck and he calmed down immediately. I also used it on the bottoms of my daughter’s feet when I coached her labor and delivery 3 months ago. It calmed her within just a few minutes.

I wanted to recommend Peace of Mind essential oil blend from Purify Skin Therapy. It has done wonders for my anxiety and depression.
Janna says
Dawn, is Peace of Mind something you diffuse or apply topically? I’ve heard essential oils for mood work best when diffused, but is hard for me to do as I work outside the home.
Dawn says
Janna – There are 3 ways you can apply it:
*The very best application is inhalation. Place 2-3 drops of the blend onto a cotton ball. Hold it under your nose and breathe in it’s vapors deeply for 5-10 minutes.
*Wear this blend as a perfume on the pulse points on your neck and wrist.
*Apply a couple drops to your spine or on your feet and rub it in.

I also use oils from a few different companies. But I am most familiar with Spark Naturals. They are very responsibly priced, and not a multi-level marketing company. They have a blend called LXR Anxiety , and one that it called Bliss Calming. Either of those would be wonderful for your stress. I frequently diffuse Lavender at night. I like to rub Dream onto the bottom of my feet (with an unscented lotion or with coconut oil). It not only helps my mind turn off so I can sleep; but I believe the oils in that blend help keep me healthy.

I also recommend the book “naturally knocked up”. It goes over what foods are best for fertility, what to avoid, and how to detox your body. Good luck and God Bless! Andrea
