Thank you for sharing your meal plan! One time I made the Biscuit & Gravy recipe you had linked, it was wonderful! Now, I can’t find the recipe. Would you share the link again? Thank you!
Bridget or Crystal: In the months of Dec. and Jan. My husband will get paid early on Dec. 18th from work and then won’t get paid again till the end of January. (he gets paid monthly). How do we make his salary stretch that six weeks especially in the area of food? Are there some things we can do now to avoid running out or going without during that six week time frame? I have a small part time job but also get piad monthly and it’s not nearly as much as him. And, for the month of Dec. Ill only be working one day that month due to Christmas Break. Any advise in this area?
That’s a really long time to go between pay checks! There have been years my husband has been on a monthly salary as well – and it definitely wasn’t my favorite. I wish I had some really great advice for you, but I think the biggest thing is just to plan ahead. Since you know its coming up, you could always try to set aside even just a few extra dollars a week in the month of November. When he gets paid on the 18th, divide your food budget up equally into 6 weeks (maybe even put real cash into 6 envelopes and put them away somewhere where you won’t be tempted to spend them early :)). Shop sales and use coupons for each week if you are able. Stick with budget friendly things like rice, eggs, oatmeal, potatoes, beans, and buy in-season produce (things like apples are cheap this time of year). Buy a couple (or more!) of turkeys when they are super cheap during thanksgiving, and cook, chop and freeze the meat in small Ziploc bags. I don’t know what part of the country you live in, but if you have Aldi – shop there! 🙂
Thank you for your help. We live in North Mississippi, and shop at Aldi’s too, and love it. 🙂 Thank you for your advise. Greatly appreciated.
