Wow! I’m always amazed at the prices in your area! I live near Pittsburg, and we pay $3-$4 a gallon for milk, nearly $2 a dozen for eggs and the lowest sale on pineapple I’ve seen in two yes was 1.29. I can only dream of bread prices that low, even sale items or clearance are more expensive. We pay outrageous prices for nearly everything. Even though we shop at Aldi for most of our grocery items. Any advise on how to lower expenses while living near the city?
This would be a great question for people living near big cities to comment on. We live outside of Charlotte, NC, but prices in the South are much cheaper than other parts of the country (for the record, the bread price was reduced because it was nearing its expiration…usually the same loaf of whole wheat bread is $0.89). Is it possible for you to have a garden (even a small one) where you live? Have you checked into food co-ops? Does Zaycon do drop-offs in your area (I buy almost all of my meat in bulk from zaycon)? I’ve also ordered organic produce at good prices from Albert’s Organics (not sure if they do a drop-off in your area, but check into something similar). If you live close to any Amish communities, they often have bulk supply stores that are open to the public. I’ve often bought my wheat, oats, and rice in 50lb bags there for great prices. Stock up on sales/clearance/bulk purchases and then freeze.
