We had a wonderful vacation with extended family in Maine this past week, and I really enjoyed the break from my normal menu planning and grocery shopping! Since there weren’t any great deals on meat or fruit this week, I decided to rely on what we already have in our freezer. I like to completely rotate through my freezer stash every 4-6 months anyway, so this seemed like a good opportunity to work on that!

I love your meal plans. They seem so quick and easy. I’ve been a huge fan of your blog since 2011. I stopped coming through and recently started again. Now sure why I ever stopped.
I had never heard of cottage cheese pie. I googled it and I’m tempted to try it. Is it anything like cheese cake?
I have been consistently menu planning and for the first time in ages, I was under budget when I averaged my last 4 weeks! I even added to my stockpile.
I am interested in the cottage cheese pie as well. Never heard of such a thing, but it sounds yummy!
Would love to know how you make Mexican lasagna?
I would attempt to use more coupons if any of our store doubled! Albertsons used to but doesn’t anymore and while the Safeways on the other side of our state do have double coupons… ours does not. Boo hoo!
But… our Fred Meyer puts 1/2 gallon milks on sale to $.99 about every other week or so, and on the off week I can often find some of the gallons reduced to $1.39 for quick sale. This helps a lot!
Curious why Brigette buys her milk at Harris Teeter’s for $2.99 and not at Aldi – is the milk more expensive at the Aldi by you. The Aldi here in Chicago where I shop is $2.09 a gallon.
Great question! Yes, the milk is more expensive at Aldi. Milk is really expensive here, and $2.99 is considered a great price (when we lived in MI, $1.99 was pretty standard, and I could sometimes get it for $1.49). Harris Teeter is much more expensive for most things than Aldi is, but not for milk, oddly enough!
Are all those egg whites going in your protein shakes? Do you have a protein shake recipe you really like?
The egg whites go in my veggie omelettes in the mornings, and I use them in muffins in a mug as well. I don’t put them in my smoothies. I use protein powder and fruit in my smoothies. As a general rule, I mostly eat according to Trim Healthy Mama way of eating, and they have all kinds of smoothie/shake recipes that are super yummy (you can google THM recipes – all kinds of stuff on pinterest and blog sites).
Wanted to alert you to Blue Bunny’s recall…they’ve pulled ALL their products out of all the stores in our area. I feel like you all are friends of mine, so wanted you to know asap.
Sure do continue to appreciate these posts, Brigitte et al!
It was Blue Belle ice cream not Blue Bunny that was recalled.
Blue Bell has had the recent recall. Blue Bunny is still safe, as far as I know. 🙂
Ooooo…you’re both right! Thanks for the correction.
