Today’s question is from Elizabeth:
How do you save money on purchasing K-Cups for Keurig single-brew coffee makers? I have tried using coupons for K-Cups, but it’s often hard to find the specific brand the coupon is for. I have also tried ordering them online from different sites, but I found that the sites that offered coupon codes and great deals weren’t working properly and my orders did not go through. Does anyone know what the best sites are {with or without coupon codes} to order K-Cups from? -Elizabeth

Use an EkoBrew refillable cup (you can get them on Amazon) and fill with whatever type of coffee you like (fill only to the lower fill line to avoid backflow). I have several for when friends are over 🙂

I combine with coupons and sales. The best I found was Bergners(CARSONS) you can use the $10 off $25 coupons on K-cups. And then at Target when they do the buy three get $5 gc back and along with coupons from inserts. I spend between .30-.40 a cup, but I only drink one cup a day. It has been much a money saver for us since I am the only one that drinks coffee and only one cup a day, I’m saving calories, water and excess coffee. And it is my treat to myself for all the hard work I do taking care of the house, kids and man 🙂 Oh and facebook offers for free k-cups rock, I have numerous friends and family that sign up and give them to me 🙂

Macy’s has been putting the K-Cups on sale for 30% off alot lately. Like this weekend!! 🙂 Plus you can use a coupon. Today it’s 15%…which you find on their website. The coupons are good in-store or online.

Check Mir’s website http://www.wantnot.net for deals. She often posts when there is a good buy on K-cups from Kohl’s, Bed Bath & Beyond or Amazon (use Swagbucks!).
I am in no way affiliated with Mir (except that I think she is pretty) but I do love to see the deals she finds.
Also… I was just at Bed Bath & Beyond and the fall K-cups were on clearance…. about $19.00 for 44 cups I think….. and if you have a $5 off or 20% coupon that is a good deal. AND they always take expired coupons.

My sister gave me her Keurig, and I love it. I am a one-cup-a-day person, so it’s perfect for me. I have gotten my K-cups cheap/free from Amazon using my Swagbucks. I have also gotten them at Penney’s when I have a coupon. My local Meijer store had a great deal over Christmas on a variety pack, plus I had a coupon. I have been getting a TON of free samples lately that have keep in stock as well. Watch for deals!

If you live in PA, MD or DE, the best price on K-cups is at BB’s Grocery Outlet in Quarryville, PA. They sell a box of name brand k-cups for $3-$5 per box. I also found a STEAL at the Lancaster Outlets in a Kitchen Outlet store that was selling a box of 48 k-cups for $10 per box because they were getting ready to expire. My husband said the taste was still good.
Nicole says
I LOVE my keurig!!! My husband bought on for me for Christmas, and it’s probably one of the best gifts ever (and he thought of it himself!). I’ve gotten several boxes at Office Max using my Max rewards. I also go to Walmart to get them, because they are cheaper there.
And to all those who think K-cups are a waste of money, I used to spend $3-$5 a day at a coffee shop because I didn’t have the time to wait for a pot of coffee to brew at home. So for me, spending around 50 cents/cup is well worth it!

I figured out that I could use the 20% off coupons late last year to get T-discs for my Tassimo and started purchasing them as soon as the coupon came. However, since the beginning of the year, I haven’t gotten a single one in the mail. Anyone else noticed a cutback recently?
Robin says
I discovered greenmoutain.com. It’s free to join and member prices are $13.99 for a box of 24 with no sales tax. Order 4 boxes and pay no shipping. You can also set up a recurring order which you can change flavors, shipping dates, etc at any time. You don’t accumulate points like Keurig.com but I have received 12 free sample cups, an insulated tumbler and coffee cup. They also send a chart that tells you how often you should order depending on how many cups you drink daily. They have cups, bagged ground coffee and beans, cookies and more.
I’ve also tried the filter to add your own grounds and gave it to my Dad because it leaked. Thanks for the tips – I think I’ll try it again.

I’ve found that you can re-use a kcup once. I just leave it in and pour more water, usually get at least 2 cups out of each k cup. I also watch amazon (got a set of 36 kcups for under $6 shipped the other day). I also use swagbucks to get amazon gift cards. Also, I turn in empty ink cartrdiges to staples (my friends give me theirs too) and you can get up to $20 in store credits each month for this, $2 per cartridge. They carry kcups in store and online. And finally, I watch on for them on clearance.
tricia says
i just purchased from coffeeforless.com for the first time. I have a Tassimo, but they also sell K cups. The price for me to use a promo code and not spend gas getting to Bed Bath and Beyond made it worth while. They are 10 cents cheaper a pack, but I saved in other ways even though BBB has a 20% coupon. I will probably break even, but the convenience was great. I also had a groupon type deal for it, but I didn’t factor that in when I did the initial cost break down to see if I would want to use it in the future as well. The deal made it even better though for this first purchase!
Elizabeth says
Thank you, Crystal, for posting my question. Also, thanks to all of you who answered my question by telling me where and how you purchase your k cups for a great price. I didn’t know about a lot of the websites that were mentioned and some places I NEVER would have thought to look, like Staples, Christmas Tree Shop, JCPenney, etc… Thanks again to all of you who gave me great ideas so not now I have tons of stores to check out and pricematch!

Sams club has the best deal for me $40 for 80 Caribou or Donut shop coffee. Another tip for everyone is to register your Keurig online. I know that it’s a one time deal, but when you register it at Keurig.com you get 2 boxes free when you buy 2 plus free shipping. So in my example it cost about $30 for 4 boxes of 24, which was a very good deal!
Erin Rose says
My goal for K-cups is 50cents/cup. I don’t by them if they are more than that. I have gotten them at Kohls mostly. Also Bed Bath and Beyond, Costco, and sometimes Target with a giftcard deal. It is only me who drinks coffee in our house and I have about 2 cups a day so this works out fine for me. Also nice for when we have company.
chelsea says
If you leave the k cup in and just pour in more water, you can get at least 2 cups of coffee from each k cup.
Chrystelle says
We get ours at coffeewiz.com. The boxes have 20 in them instead of 18 (like at BBB) and they don’t charge for shipping for orders $50 or more. We also buy at Costco, $37 for 84 pods.
We got our Keurig when I was pregnant and wanted a cup of decaf while my hubby had a cup of regular coffee. Before the Keurig, we were wasting so much coffee because we were making two different pots for our two separate cups of coffee!
Amy says
I used to work at Macy’s and it’s a really good place to buy K-Cups when they are running a savings pass or coupon that’s good in the home department.
My Macy’s had sale prices on the K-Cups comparable to Wal-Mart and also around the holidays Macy’s will frequently run them on sale for 40% off or B 1 Get 1 Free (we always sold a ton then!).
I don’t recommend the off-brand K-Cups you can find at Wal-Mart – the coffee tasted terrible – like instant! We use the Keurig brand refillable filter with no problems for over a year now. We’ve brewed 8 O’Clock Coffee, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, and Caribou all without grounds in the cup or overflow issues.
Hope this helps!
Jenni says
Honestly, I make a point not to buy anything which requires a specific refill product. After doing the math, I’ve found that refills are where the true cost of a product is. Diaper genie? Expensive refills, so I bought another brand which uses any garbage bags (including bags from the grocery store). Same thing with an off-brand swiffer with refillable bottles and reusable cleaning pads.
We won a Keurig from a giveaway at work and sold it in favor of a cheap 2-cup coffee maker. No regrets.
Anita says
I own a Keurig for convenience. I try to recycle & reuse wherever possible. While I appreciate the ability to fill a reusable K cup… if I wanted to fill something, I would be filling a regular coffee pot. There are some days in my household where just refilling the water seems like ‘the end of the world’ type of task.
I never thought about getting Kcups at Kohls… great idea! I’ve been getting them at JCPenney with a coupon.
Lois says
Amazon, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Kohls (only on sale with additional 30% off). Best place I found was W.B.Masons – a site I order office supplies – they just had a special 24 pk for 9.99 + free shipping…. can’t beat that! I stocked up! K-cups are my special treat..
Mary Collins says
I buy my K-cups on Ebay and Amazon in cases of 100 – on Ebay you can generally find them for about $62 for 100. Make sure to look for sellers like idrugstore who has this price with free shipping. I also use the refillable K-cup – buying the actual Keurig one is totally worth the extra investment – it is heavy duty and the lid screws on. It has a metal mesh filter that you just turn over in the sink and tap out the grounds then rinse. It works great. The less expensive ones are a mess and make terrible coffee.
Jenn says
K-cups can be expensive but they are so convenient. I frequently find bent(but unharmed boxes) at Bed Bath & Beyond. Tonight I walked in and found a box of 48 cups marked down to $15.98 – $5 coupon=10.98– that works out to less than 25 cents a cup. They also had a variey of 18 count boxes for $6-20% off coupon. I still use my regular coffee pot in the morning, when I and my husband drink several cups.
Michelle says
Definitely check out the ekobrew. We got one on Amazon for around $11 not too long ago….works great!
Pam says
I LOVE my Keurig :). It’s just about the only thing my hubby and I splurge on. We were buying our coffee from Sam’s Club (80 K-cups for about $40). We had tried Keurig’s filter and it NEVER worked. So I was hesitant to try any other brands. But the cost was just killing me, so I took a chance and order somed Ekobrew refillable cups from Amazon. They are amazing!! I highly recommend them! They were a little pricey to start w/ $20 for the two, but then I bought 140 “cups” of my hubs’ favorite coffee for under $20..so they’re already cheaper than the K-cups!

For the most part, we have gotten ours from Amazon with Subscribe & Save though the cost has gone thru the roof in the last 6 months, Im not subscribed any longer.
Now, Im getting them from Kohls when they’re on sale, plus Kohls cash, & a 30% (usually) coupon for using my credit card.
We also get them at the Water Supply Co down the street from where m’honey works. They have machines that they lease & provide the coffee for, so he can get it there fairly reasonably.

I’m chuckling at all the tsk-tsking from people who are not fans. The question was not “should one have/use a Keurig?” But I digress.
It’s probably our family’s most-used and -loved appliance. We use it every single day, multiple times/day during the cold months. I make homemade hot chocolate mix and keep it on the counter beside the Keurig. The little ones (kindergarten age) can even make their own cups with the instant hot water. It’s a lot safer than getting stepstools and lifting hot mugs out of the microwave, or heating water on the stove. We drink a lot of tea as well, and instead of buying the tea K-cups, simply use a bag and the Keurig for instant hot water. I’d say we use it 5:1 for hot water:Kcups. It’s the best money I think I ever spent.
Also they have superb customer service. Ours was giving us fits, even after doing a descale and going through all the troubleshooting. They sent a new one right out with no quibbling.

I got my Keurig for Christmas and I have done a lot of searching for the cheapest K-cups. I either get them at Target with a good coupon or at the Shoffee site. When I get it online at the Shoffee site, it comes out to be about 58 cents per cup. I get the bold or extra bold blends cause they make the best iced coffees at the lower water setting and really great regular coffee when I use the higher water setting.
Teri Capshaw says
I put tea bags directly into the reusable filter that came with my machine. For herbal teas I use most I buy bags of loose leaves that go into the filter. It’s WAY cheaper. I also use the same tea bag or leaves for several cups before the flavor weakens. It’s fun to have a wonderful treat for a couple penny’s expense!
Amanda B says
We just found that our Costco is now carrying the San Francisco Bay organic french roast coffee in K-cups at a killer price of $25 for 80 cups! We used to buy the beans before the Keurig and are excited to find them in cups and so much cheaper than anything else I’ve seen so far.
Rob Leavitt says
Costco in Westlake Village, CA has boxes of 100 of this coffee in biodegradable (non-plastic) “cups” for $29.98! Not my favorite coffee, but not bad, and at an excellent price!
Tracy says
If you aren’t hooked on a particular brand watch for the clearance and daily deals at Amazon.com. I was able to get 2 packages, 12 cts, for a total of 24 k cups for $5.38 including shipping. In the past I have been able to get various sizes, ranging from $4.00 to $10.00. I never pay more than $10, and if I am paying that much it needs to be for the larger counts.
When there is no good sales, I use the refillable cups. To clean easily, I let them dry a little, the drier grounds come out easier.
Rachel says
I have friends that order their k-cups from an online janitorial supply company in bulk. They split the order and buy in bulk. I am ever so lucky to have a Starbucks Employee/Roaster as a husband- so I get Starbucks for free each week!!!! 😀
Free 2 Be Frugal says
I wish people who do not use or do not like the Keurig would refrain from getting in on this conversation. If you’re not a fan, then this conversation is NOT for you. Have some common courtesy. The woman didn’t ask what your opinion of the coffee machine was, just how she could get some good prices on the coffee.
Anyway, I thank everyone for their tips and suggestions. I never knew that T.J. Maxx and Home Goods carried them! Awesome! And I never thought of getting them at JC Penney or Kohls’s when those $10 off of $10 coupons come out. CLEVER!
Here’s my tip: Go to Walmart. Since the K-cup patent ran out, other companies can now make them and sell them for a competitive price. Walmart has hot cocoa, coffees, spiced apple cider, and cappuccinos for $7.98 for 18 cups! Best price I’ve ever paid!
Val in MD says
I appreciate your first paragraph. Dittos.
Great tip on the WM Kcups. I wasn’t aware of that! Thanks!
Kate says
You should have some common courtesy for your fellow man and refrain from shopping at walmart.
There is nothing wrong ith expressing a contrary opinion. Some people honestly have no idea that the keurig has a huge environmental impact.
We’re talking about how to get a good price on coffee. Many people consider their impact on the earth when determining what a good price is.
Erika M says
Actually you are incorrect. The question was how to get a good price on kcups. The original question, was not asking how to save money on coffee. For some people, the splurge is on Kcups, for others, it is shopping at Walmart, and for others it is disposable diapers or not composting. I agree with you on the environmental impact and Walmart, but I also agree with this original comment, if you choose not to use a Keurig or do not like them, there’s no need to comment on this post, it is not helpful, which is the goal of the post. Those comments which say, “just don’t use the Keurig” or equal to me saying “Just use cloth diapers” when someone askes where to find a good price on disposable diapers. I just think that we could be helpful and stick with the question, not try to impose our views on others when they are not asked about.
Elizabeth says
@Erika: Thank you for your comment. I was the one who sent in this question, and you read my mind…I love it how you re-iterated that I wasn’t asking how to save money on coffee, or what other options were. I do use one k-cup per day, and always will. So yes, I did only want to know how to save money on k cups and I do appreciate everyone who answered that question…lots of helpful answers!
Keri says
I appreciate your response (& the original post by Free 2 be Frugal). Everyone has different areas that they splurge in, and shouldn’t be judged for them (see the recent article on this site about not being too frugal). I personally am not at a point of being 100% frugal with strict budgets and planning, etc, but I do enjoy saving money anywhere I can, and that’s why I come to this site. It’s always refreshing to see you won’t be judged for not doing frugal ‘right’ all the time.
Thanks to everyone else for all the great tips!
Michelle says
Last week at my Kroger, I found the 36 variety pack reduced to $8.59. I suppose this was a holiday clearance.
I love my Keurig, and in the vein of the first article today about taking frugal too far, I have rationalized my indulgence.
On a bit of a different note, my first Keurig “died” after one year of use, and after the warranty had expired. The company was wonderful when my husband called to see if it could be repaired. They replaced it with a new one! Incidentally, the new one has to be “repowered” after a spell vs. being ready to brew at any time.
Leslie says
I’m sure someone else has already said this but, we reuse ours. Once we have used once, we take the top piece of foil off, empty the coffee, rinse and let dry. Then we refill with coffee and use two small pieces of foil to cover and seal as well as possible. My husband has been doing it for over a year.
We prefer this over utilizing our reusable filter
Tami says
I too use the refillable Kcup but enjoy variety so I scout Amazon and was able to buy variety packs of 35 for 17 with free super saver shipping when spending 25. I also watch at Target for the deal with their coupon, and $5 gift card. One other way to stretch is my husband loves strong dark coffee I prefer weaker coffee so on some of the K cups I have found we can pop it out turn it half way around and resuse for a second weaker cup. This works better when you let them dry before reuse.
Jillian says
I have tried the filters and refillable kcup for my Keurig and it never worked right for me. I would have to brew a cup three times with the refillable cup before it would fill up a normal size coffee mug. I buy my kcups in bulk from Amazon. $30 for 50 Donut Shop kcups. Not bad.
Sheila says
I stack coupons (usually Safeway grocery and Target) with sales at those two stores. I also get the 80 cup variety box at BB&B with a 20 % coupon, or get them at Kohls when I have a 30% coupon.
Diane says
I know many people have already mentioned that Bed Bath and Beyond is a great location to buy K-cups. I just wanted to add that many times they have free shipping on K-cups when you purchase them online. (Right now in fact they are offering it and there is no minimum order.)You can then bring in your receipt to the store with a 20% coupon for a coupon adjustment (if you do not have a coupon that you can use online). That way you have a vast selection online, you don’t have to pay extra for shipping, and you can still use your coupon!
Monica says
We use bigcatcoffee.com too (someone else mentioned it) BUT if you do not get $75 in an order you pay for shipping. So my husband does a big order w/ co-workers so it’s free shipping, but still equals out to be around $0.56 cents a cup BUT he runs his k-cup through twice & it tastes just fine. We also bought the reusable filter, but it overflows alot (he just deals w/ it). We look for coupons but they never come out for the fun flavor ones 🙁
Jennefer says
I have had a Keurig for a few years now. My biggest tip is to look for clearance sales on them. I recently was able to get several big 48 count variety boxes for $9.99 at The Christmas Tree Shop. I also got some on clearance recently at Bed Bath and Beyond plus used the coupon. I also just got a bunch on clearance at Kroger and had coupons to match. Yes, it is more expensive than brewing a pot. I only drink a few cups a day, so to me, it is worth it. The coffee tastes great.
To save on the tea k-cups, I simply don’t buy them. I just leave out the k-cup and brew a cup of water. Then I add a teabag to the cup. I do have to let it steep, but I am cool with that. I save so much money not buying the tea k-cups.
B says
I’m just wondering why a lot of people on here seem to think that they have to brew a whole pot of coffee if they only want to drink one or two cups….ummm….if you only want 2 cups of coffee, fill the water to the 2 cup line. There’s your answer. No waste. I have been doing it this way twice a day, EVERY day, for the last 3 years on my 12 cup plain jane coffee maker. I’ve never made a full pot. Works just fine. No fancy-schmancy Keurig needed.
Dee says
I have the 5 different size cup machine and found that I like to start with a medium cup, then lift the handle and put it back down for a second medium cup to keep my cup nice and hot and still a decent strength of coffee. I probably use my k-cup twice before dumping the grounds or getting a new cup so it gets thin at the end, but it saves money, time, and waste and my coffee is always hot.
Jennefer says
Be careful doing that. You clog the needle reinserting it into the wet grounds. My aunt was doing this and ruined her machine. The grounds get packed in the needle, then the water can’t get through. If this is something that you do a lot, make sure you are clearing the needle frequently. You can use a paper clip to get the grounds out.

Rachael~The Thrifty Picker says
hi there~if you are a single cup girl at home, just use your old dinosaur coffee maker and only make a quarter of a pot. sorry, i just can get on the keurig bandwagon. maybe if you are a business and have clients coming in to whom you would like to offer a single cup and some variety, then i can see the point.
funny this question came up today. i just happened to be curious while at walmart and looked at the price of k cups (i do think they were the starbucks kind) for 5 total ounces they wanted $10.48! I can buy a big old honking 40 ounce canister for like $8.
Jenny Panella says
The best thing to do is to leave k-cups behind. They are a waste of money. If you want an easy, inexpensive way to brew coffee, try a simple pour-over method or french press. Both methods produce k-cup quality coffee or better.
Kristia {Family Balance Sheet} says
I’m the only one at my house that drinks coffee, so the Keurig is perfect for me. The coffee is so much better than my previous coffee maker. I use the special k-cup filter to make my own coffee, because the cups are so expensive and wasteful but my husband occasionally likes the iced raspberry tea and I occasionally like a cup of flavored coffee. I stock up when we have a 30% coupon at Kohl’s and the kcups are on sale. That is the only time I buy the cups.
I didn’t realize when I bought the keurig that the cups wouldn’t be recyclable. I checked their site and at the time it stated that they are trying to develop a cup that can be recycled and still adhere to food standards. That is why I like the the filter.
Mable says
Why is this even on a frugal blog? The price and the environmental damage caused by containers that have the pastic fused into the outer shell so that neither can be recycled is horrifying.
And the cost is outrageous! Here is what the NY Times said in an article just today: For example, the Nespresso Arpeggio costs $5.70 for 10 espresso capsules, while the Folgers Black Silk blend for a K-Cup brewed-coffee machine is $10.69 for 12 pods. But that Nespresso capsule contains 5 grams of coffee, so it costs about $51 a pound. And the Folgers, with 8 grams per capsule, works out to more than $50 a pound.
That’s even more expensive than all but the priciest coffees sold by artisanal roasters, the stuff of coffee snobs.
An exclusive single-origin espresso like the Ethiopia, Gedeo Single Origin Espresso from Sightglass Coffee costs $19 for a 12-ounce bag, or about $25 a pound. La Cima beans for brewed coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters, a Grand Cru selection grown at Finca el Injerto, a renowned farm in Guatemala, is $28.50 for a 12-ounce bag, or $38 a pound.

i bought my keurig when it was 30% at kohls+i had some kohl’s cash so it was my gift to myself :-).
that said, so far I’ve purchased 4 with the b2g2f when you first register your keurig. i also picked up the holiday flavor mix (48 ct) and the fall flavor mix (44 ct) for 19.99 ea at BBB (currently on clearance, check it out!!). I’ve also purchased the ekobrew from amazon when it was on sale for like $10 (plus i used amazon gc from swag bucks so it was free!!). lastly, i received a few freebies from Facebook (a 12 pk for the hot chocolate and a 4 pk from barista prima).
I never thought to brew the same cup twice, which is pretty smart since i like a kind of medium/strong brew in the morning but a weaker one later on. I’m going to do that next time i want a 2nd cup of coffee!
Audrey says
coffeeforless.com is the cheapest I’ve found. And there are occassionaly Living Social Deals and Groupon deals for it making them even cheaper, but if you don’t stock up, a $12 My K-cup is the way to go. I’ve had one overflow only once and it was because I packed it in.
Wendy says
Register your keurig on their site and get but 2 boxes get 2 free, look for sales on Bed Bath and Beyond, grocery stores, etc and if all else fails buy the reusable filter. I L-O-V-E the choices of coffee the keurig allows so I do buy quite a few of the k-cups. I just search around for the best deals and then stock up. Good luck figuring out what will work best for you!
Kylie-Cheap Single Chick says
The Bed, Bath and Beyond 20% off coupon paired with a Manufacturer’s Coupon usually makes for a pretty good deal. If you aren’t picky about flavors, try to snag a bunch of the free offers for K-Cups that have been on Facebook lately. I think I’ve probably gotten about 20 free K-Cups this year from Facebook alone! It’s not tons, but I don’t drink tons of coffee, so it works for me 🙂 If you have family on Facebook, always have them sign up, too! Free coffee is the BEST coffee 🙂
Shonna Severson says
It’s all in how you look at it. We buy the K cups at Sams or with a coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond, our local grocery store had them on a truckload sale so we try to get them for around 50 cents per kcup. My husband and I each drink 1 per day so it’s MUCH less than spending the money at a coffee shop. If you are the type to drink a whole pot, then it wouldn’t be worth your money. We also use the my k cup for the coffee we have at home sometimes.
Margaret says
We have Keurig – my husband was making his coffee in the morning and throwing out half of what he made and using more grounds than necessary to make the coffee. For us it is saving us money on buying coffee. I found the MyKaps on amazon. It allows you reuse your K-cups until the filter wears out. It works great, just like a k-cup – I’ve used them at least 4 or 5 times before having to throw them out.
rose says
Since I myself do not drink coffee, this is all 2nd hand info… My DH bought a Keurig and did the Amazon monthly deal with the automatic coffee each month….got way too expensive, but was still about .32 a cup. So now we bought the coffee from World Market and get their coffee points in the reusable filter… we have never had a problem with the coffee. I also bought him some Dunkin Donut Christmas coffee marked down at Target to $4.00 for 12 oz. and he loved that. BUT you can buy the K cups that are about to go out of date at the railroad salvage stores… for a really good price. Got a box of 80 for about $8…. so that is a good deal!
San Diego Deals and Steals says
We don’t use them because they are just so expensive – but if you are not signed up for Ebates yet – I bet you could find a company on Ebates that sells them & also get some $$ back – or perhaps you could buy them on Amazon with swagbucks free gift cards?
Laura says
I was thrilled to have won my Keurig machine last fall along with 5 boxes of K-cups. I have found that I can rinse the little cups out well after use, let them dry for a day or two and refill them with any coffee. I had bought some disposable caps to cover them with, used them a few times, but just putting two layers of foil over them and pinching tightly along the edge works better and is way cheaper! Those tiny filters in the K-cups are very strong and I’ve heard can be re-used up to 50 times!
Jennifer says
Costco is really good for K-cups. We just love our Keurig and have had one now for 5 years. My husband used to stop at Starbucks every morning on his way to work for that venti coffee. Not anymore… So, it has saved us alot of money in that respect. It has also saved my sanity as well as my kids because Mommy can easily brew that one cup of coffee at a time (I only do 2 a day, but boy, do I love that 2 pm pick me up cup) and it is something I always look forward to. I like medium blends and my hubby loves dark roasts, so it is nice to make your kind of coffee. Also, when we used to do a pot of coffee, alot of it would go to waste.
Heather says
2 cups of coffee per Kcup!! My husband loves a strong coffee and I, on the other hand, don’t so when we make coffee using our K-Cups, my husband gets the first cup of coffee and then leaving the K-Cup in the machine I brew another cup for myself. Both of us are happy and only one K-Cup between us in a good thing. (Plus, I have been known to brew another cup later on for myself and use it up until it looks like the color of tea…!)

I disnt even want or like the keurig i got for he mere $$ of it. Since then I have adapted and appreciate the convenience when an afternoon single cup is in demand. For my morning overdose of coffee I make a pot ofmaxwell house on sale or brew itin a reusable k cup. Our Keurig came with it.It can be purchased just as mentioned by previous posts with many store coupons . I be been thinking of buying an additional one since i
Find it cumbersome to make the second cup in a timely manner. I find the uses grounds news to be dumped out and then rinsed under water too before reloading with new grinds. We keep a large box 80ct from Costco $38 and or bjs about the same. By far the cheapest place we have found.target can sometimes have a sale and accept coupons and if use the 5% is worth it if you can’t find what you like at Costco or Bjs. Good luck!

Kohls 30% coupon while they are offering kohls cash

We purchased our Keurig for $64.44 and felt we got a great deal on it. I agree with the reusable K-Cup or other filter brand. Its been working great for us.
Lots of other great suggestions. I found AWESOME deals at Staples in their “clearance” section and watch for Kohls deals that I stack promos with.
Aside from that, add your favorite(s) brands/flavors to your Amazon “wishlist”. We did this and people seemed to really enjoy buying these for us at Christmas. Its an easy, no thinking required gift. We got several boxes, a great variety and we are pretty much set for the whole year.
Good luck and Enjoy that Keurig 🙂
Becky says
I have found the best prices at http://www.coffeecow.com. I’ll have to check out some of the other sites mentioned here.
I also have the reusable K-cup but I don’t think the coffee is quite as good as when you use the actual K-cups. But it will save a lot of money.
Corrie says
Has anyone had luck with loose leaf tea in their reusable K-Cup? We use ours for my husband’s coffee (Mostly Maxwell House or Dunkin Donuts) and it turns out great, but I’m a tea drinker and have absolutely ZERO luck with it. I love the Celestial Seasonings and Twinings K-Cups but they’re so expensive. My tea always comes out really weak with the Keurig, so I’ve gone back to the lengthier process of boiling water and brewing my loose leaf in a tea ball. Is the reusable K-Cup a coffee lover’s dream and tea lover’s nightmare, or is there some magic secret that I don’t know about lol!?
ERIKA M says
This might sound silly or not help. But I am a hot chocolate lover, but refuse to pay for the hot cocoa K cups. Usually I just open and close the k-chamber with nothing in it, select the cup size and out comes hot water, then I add my hot chocolate packet to the hot cup of water. Maybe you could try the same by adding your tea bag to the hot water the keurig puts out? Good luck
Susie says
This won’t work for loose tea, but my husband ALWAYS makes his tea in the Keurig – he just puts the tea bag where the K-cup would go. Voila! 🙂
Lois says
In addition to buying with coupons at Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl’s, I use my K-cups more than once. I’m a tea drinker, and have found that the Tazo “Awake” tea will give me at least 4 satisfactory cups (this doesn’t work as well for the sweetened iced tea K-cups). My husband often uses a coffee K-cup more than once. We usually have the multiple cups within a couple of hours of each other…I’m pretty sure it would not be a good idea to leave them sitting around for too long!
Lynn says
My husband uses the “make it yourself” K cup filter as well. He is a coffee snob (I say that lovingly) and does not drink any “normal” coffees from the grocery store. He grinds his own beans, and doesn’t grind them superfine. He also doesn’t “pack” the filter. I don’t think he has ever had a problem with it overflowing once he figured out the right amount to put it. We were just commenting yesterday about how much the K cups have gone up. Hope that helps.
Beth says
kenoza.com is good. You don’t have to buy a full box. You can get 5 of one, 5 of another etc.,,,,,,,. Bed, bath and beyond I’d good with the 20 percent off coupon too.
Julia says
We switched back to a 12 cup coffee maker and use premium coffee. It is much cheaper. I noticed after about 6 months our Keurig wasn’t working right, overflowing, leaving coffee bits in our cups.. just wasn’t satisfied. It is much more cost effective to go with a traditional coffee maker and isn’t that much more work between the refillable cups and a traditional filter.
Jess says
You should call them, they have excellent customer service.
Katy P says
I agree- we had problems with two different machines and they sent me replacement units with no hassle.

The best deal I have found is using cafe express, which is green mountain coffees subscribe and save through ebates or shop at home for additional savings. Ehilr comparing online prices compared to BBB and kohls is the cup count in the box, the boxes that come from cafe express or keurig.com are larger, typically 24 count compared to 18
Stephanie says
Where do you see the $35 voucher to Coffeeforless.com for $17 on Eversave’s website?
Angie says
I “like” a lot of the different K-cup brands on facebook and occasionally they give out samples. I’ve already gotten a full box of 16 Hot Chocolate K-Cups from Cafe Escapes and a 4 pack of Green mountain misc flavored coffees. My husband and I also received some for Christmas which was a really nice gift. I never pay full price, but I haven’t had to buy any for over 5 months!
Maura says
I tried the re-usable filter a few times, and never had good luck with it and the coffee never tasted as good. I usually just wait for good deals on Amazon to pick up K-cups. Or when I recycle ink at Staples, I use the rewards and grab some “free” K-cups there.
Rachel says
I’ve found the best deal at Staples. I order through their catalog (online), buying enough so that my total is $75 (usually 6 boxes). Then, I buy a $25 off $75 coupon from ebay for ~$3. Buying this amount gets free shipping, so my total out of pocket for 144 Kcups is around $53, or ~.37/cup. Still not *cheap* but with 3 kiddos under 3, I’m happy to pay for the ability to make a cup of coffee one-handed.
Occasionally, they run a a sale where buying 3 or more of one kind brings the price per box down a few dollars, and then it’s even better.
Jess says
Yikes, you have let the secret out! Get on their break room mailing list and they will send you the coupons. Also, if you order by the break room catalog number (you must search by the code) they give you the catalog price, and the 24 box, which is often on sale. Also, don’t forget to use your ink rewards and other rewards too. It is great!
Heather says
I have had great luck getting them from Sams Club. They do large quantities for better prices and have a good variety box. Still more expensive than old fashion cheap morning coffee but also cheaper than starbucks every morning like my hubs would prefer.
tracey says
subscribe to all the group deal-type emails (living social, groupon, etc.) – the coffee sites regularly offer deals like $50 for $25, then you can usually find free shipping when you buy around $45 or $50 worth. i usually get my k-cups for .28 – .35 each. best deal i’ve seen anywhere with any coupons! and just when i’m running low, a new deal seems to appear!
Tyra says
I mainly buy the bagged Starbucks coffe and just use the reusable K cup.. But the kcups are $7.99 at Marshalls and TJ Maxx. Which is cheaper than buying them at BB and Beyond with a coupon. most stores they are $11-12.99 full price. so spendy. Also if you love the starbucks bagged coffee, like my husband does then buy at TJ Maxx. They are $5.99 from there plus you can bring the empty bag into any starbucks and get a free small coffee 😀
Cherie says
I do the BB&B coupons and Kohl’s cash for specialty blends. We also use the Ekobrew for daily use.
I turn in 10 ink cartridges per month into my Office Depot for $2 per cartridge on my Rewards account. When I get the quarterly gift certificate for $60, I use that towards the K-cups in their store if I don’t need other office supplies.
Candice Henry says
I use these. I have the keurig one too but hate cleaning every time i use it. Had good luck with it.

Elizabeth says
I buy them at Costco for my aunt, but I’m a decaf drinker, so 20% off at Bed, Bath, and Beyond is the best I can do, usually. I only drink one a day, so it is my little indulgence. I have a reusable one, but it is kinda a pain, and (I think) sorta defeats the purpose. Also, one of my offices has a Keurig, so the mornings I go there, I skip my cup at home and just drink it at the office. If you qualify for the Staples or Office Depot corporate pricing, check it out to see if its cheaper than buying it retail.
karen says
Has anyone tried the reusable lids for k cups such as my-kap.com?
I love to know how they work.
Mary Ann Beachy says
Yes, I bought a sample pack which included two My-Kaps and a number of new empty kups and filters. But I re-use the K-kups, by tearing off the foil, dumping the grounds and rinsing it out with water. I can re-use them quite often, and use my favorite coffee in it. I like this better than folding my own filters, but it does work.
My husband and I also don’t like our coffee as strong as it is in the k-kups so when I use a fresh new K-kup I brew it into a 2-cup glass measuring cup, and when the first cup is done, I take out the K-kup, and I shake it up well, to re-distribute the coffee, then I put it into the brewer again, and brew the second cup. This way it is mixed and you don’t have one cup strong and the next very weak.
The My-Kup filter did not fit our Keurig, because we have the B140 series and it will not close then.
Here is the link for My-Kaps.http://www.my-kap.com/

Does anyone know if it is possible to use the my kcup with cappaciuno(not sure of spelling!!) or hot chocolate? My mom received one for Christmas and she cannot find a cappaciuno flavor she likes in the kcup. i would love to have some feedback.
Thanks!
Patti says
I am not a die hard coffee drinker so I probably don’t understand the attraction but when I saw the Keurig coffee maker, I instantly thought that it was one more gimmick to get people to spend a fortune. Not only do you have all the K-cups to buy but now you have K-cup drawers and other storage devices to keep them in. If you want to be frugal or a minimalist, think about purchases such as these for what they are: a marketing dream come true for the Keurig company.
First they rope you in by making you spend a fortune for the machine, then you have to purchase specialized cups to operate it. When you buy something like this, think about the lifetime of the product and its overall cost to you and the environment.
It reminds me of the time someone bought my son a battery operated bubble blower… really, how hard is it to blow bubbles? Sure, it’s more convenient to pick up a bubble blower and press the button, but is there a huge return on the fun rate? Same with this… is the convenience that important to you? If so, that’s the price you pay for those little cups.
Marie Riley says
That may be true, but it sure is great when your spouse wants his piping hot cup of coffee at 5 am, and I want mine at 8 am. It’s also great when you have a friend over who wants regular coffee, but you want decaf. We’ve had ours for 5 years and I absolutely love it!
K* says
I really disagree with you. I wasn’t “roped in” to buying the machine (I actually won it, but I wanted one), and it’s more than a “marketing gimmick”. I really like coffee. I really like good coffee. It would be very expensive, and really unhealthy, for me to make entire pots of good coffee and drink the whole thing. It’s much better for me to make a cup.
If I wasn’t using k-cups, I would end up drinking more coffee than I need to or really should. If I didn’t drink it all, I’d be throwing it out and wasting it and subsequently money.
I don’t believe in frugality to the point of self-deprivation in every way, though, or in extreme minimalism.
Julie Turner says
We use the reusable filter and fill it with our own coffee ground at home. I can usually get premium coffee-Starbucks or Dunkin with coupons from the paper and combine them with sales at Target for a good deal.
Another great way to save on actual K-cups is to buy them at Sam’s or Costco. Varieties are limited, but 80 K-cups for $35 (or less if on sale) is still a better bargain than buying a small box for 20% at Bed Bath and Beyond.
Susy says
In an effort to save money, I purchased a few boxes of the DisposaKups.
They work great and you can put your own coffee in them. My girls love filling them and having them ready for their dad on the little carousel. He gets the convenience without the high price! We use these along with the regular K-cups he likes. We also buy at Bed, Bath and Beyond with a coupon. Recently there was sale at Target that yielded a gift card, we combined that with the coupons that were out and got a great deal!
Chris says
The technology of the K-cup is going off patent soon and there will soon be a proliferation of knock-offs. They will get cheaper.
I still think they make mostly pretty crummy coffee. I like my ancient Braun coffee maker with the foil cone or my Areo Prss if I just want a single cup.
Stephanie says
You can use any of the great suggestions above! I also use Catalina’s I earn from shopping, I buy them using Swagbucks or SavingStar credits I earn and redeem for Amazon.com, and you can also use any gift cards you earn from MyPoints for prepaid visa or Walmart/Target etc. I try to always shop for them through these sites, on ebates, MyPoints, SwagBucks, etc.
Mama J says
Why don’t you order a refillable cup, such as an ekobrew? You can use your preexisting coffee and fill it as needed. Saves us tons.
Otherwise, the cheapest that I’ve seen is when it’s on sale at Macys and used in combo with a $5 dollar off $25.00 coupon.
Stephanie says
I posted this on my personal blog early last week.
I <3 my Keurig. I wish I was joking, but it is probably my favorite appliance ever. I know the plastic cups are bad for the environment, but I'm sorry. I love them!!
Anyway, today, Eversave has a GREAT deal! Pay $17, and get $35 worth of K-cups from http://www.coffeeforless.com/
What makes this deal even better is a discount code "EASY2" applied at checkout. This takes $2 off the total making it $15 for $35 worth of products. Here is the link.
Coffee for Less has a 100% price match guarantee. So if you find your K-cups for less, they will reimburse you the money. 🙂
I bought K-cups and checked staples. Staples was $2 cheaper. So make sure to check there! 🙂

I sent myself a gift card so I wouldn't have to pay $7 in shipping. I'll use the gift card on the next time I want k-cups.
The total was 49.95.
However I bought the groupon for $35. Which means I paid only 14.95.
The groupon cost me $15, so I really paid – 29.95
HOWEVER, each K-cup was $2 cheaper at staples, which means I get $6 store credit (which I will use on my next k-cup purchase. )
AND coffeeForless gives you 50 loyalty points for each price match correction. 100 loyalty points gives you a $1 store credit.
Which means I have a $7 store credit, and a $5 gift card left.
Total paid was $17.95 with a $12 store credit. 🙂 Not bad for 70 k-cups total. 🙂
Chrissy says
Is the Eversave deal expired already? I can’t find it anywhere.
Stephanie says
Unfortunately, its most-likely expired. However companies who do one deal, generally do more deals. So its something to look for in the future. And… eversave is also a great deal saver site to sign up for. Similar to Groupon.
Sandy says
Use 20% coupon at bed bath and beyond, kohls has them on sale a lot and when they run the kohls cash program i use it for kcups. Also register your brewer on the Keurig website. They will give you 10% of your order. They also give a free 4 pack sample when you order 6 boxes. You accumulate points that you can use to purchase items.
Julie says
My mom and mother-in-law use the 20% off a single item coupons for Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Those seem to generate about the best deals for purchasing them from a store. Online, my mother-in-law uses GreenMountainCoffee.com. Those are about the best deals that they’ve found. You could also try buying K cups through Amazon with giftcards earned through Swagbucks.com. Enjoy your coffee!
Cindy says
I don’t buy them 🙂 My machine came with a refillable plastic cup. I buy the big bag of Dunkin Donuts coffee from Costco and know I’ve saved quite a bit of money.
Faith Stewart says
I want to know too! I wanted one forever and LOVE it but is it NOT frugal by any definition unless you use it to replace what you already spent on expensive coffee drinks in a coffee shop. I was a pot a day or more drinker, and I can definitely say I have cut back. I will say the ONE thing that does help is using Swagbucks for Amazon gift cards and ordering k-cups from Amazon… and they have the sample packs too so you can try different ones without commiting.
Sarah says
I use the reusable filter that keurig makes. You just put the coffee of your choice in it and rinse it out when youre done! It’s around $15 or so but definitely worth it. Here’s a link to one on amazon so you can see what it looks like..
http://www.amazon.com/Keurig-K-Cup-Reusable-Coffee-Filter/dp/B000DLB2FI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1328727533&sr=8-2
Sarah Peterson says
I have found that Bed Bath and Beyond (with a coupon), or Carson Pirie Scott (when they are on sale and I have a $10 off 25 coupon) are often the best places to get them cheaply. I try to never ever pay more than .50 a cup.
Melissa says
I have a My K-cup, which is a re-usable K-cup. I fill it with whatever coffee (or tea) I have in the house. It is much cheaper than K-cups and allows me to have so many more choices for my Keurig. Mine came with my Keurig, but I have seen them at Walmart.
Ashley says
Melissa, your the first person that mentioned using a My K Cup for tea. I plan on getting a Keurig soon and I’m a tea drinker. I was hoping to use loose leaf teas in the refillable cup but I wasn’t sure if it would work or not. Have you had success with it? Thanks!
Erin says
Ashley- I just run water through without a kcup and use a regular tea bag.
Melissa says
Ashley, I noticed that Keurig had some K-cups with tea, so I thought I would try it myself. 🙂 Yes, I do use loose tea. It took a little tweaking to figure out how much tea I needed. I use a little more tea than I would if I were just brewing it normally, but you can re-brew it! Be careful not to pack the tea; just put it in the My K-cup loosely. The second brew will be a little weaker, but not much. Enjoy! 🙂
Christy says
I have used alice.com with great success. They only sell a few brands, but I like the Caribou Daybreak blend and they sell it for less than Bed, Bath and Beyond. If you order six items, you receive free shipping. If you have a membership to Costco, I’ve also found the Caribou Daybreak blend there.
Amy says
K-cups are my big splurge item. I have the reusable k-cup, but that defeats the purpose for me. The upside to that, though, is that I no longer ever have a desire to purchase a $5.00 coffee from a coffeehouse. ($5.00 by the time I added soy milk since I am dairy free, and a tip. ) I used to splurge on two a month. The last time I had a latte from a coffeeshop, I was disappointed and it was not worth it at all when I can make something just as good at home!
We try to pay fifty cents or less per cup. We buy them at Kohl’s when they are on sale *and* we have a 30 percent off coupon. They go on sale for 11.99 for 18 cups. With the 30 percent off, the price is just under 47 cents a cup. We stock up!
We also buy from Keurig directly when we want flavors we can’t get a Kohls like others have already mentioned. How much are they are BBB?
AmyP says
I got a starbucks out this week and thought the same thing – I like my coffee/creamer from home (with my Keurig) better. 🙂
Lindsay says
Me too! I make a maple mocha every morning and got a white chocolate mocha from Starbucks last week and it was GROSS!! I like mine so much better. And it costs about 10% to make it compared to the cost of buying it!
Susan says
Please share how you make a maple mocha!
Lindsay says
I got it from the blog 100 Days of Real Food! I do 2/3 coffee, 1/3 milk, about a t. of dark cocoa, and between 1/2 to 1 T of maple syrup depending on how sweet you like it! It’s soooooo good!
Kristen says
I know this wouldn’t work for everyone, but we actually spend very little of our own money on K-cups because we ask for them for Christmas and birthdays. Kind of a random present, but it’s what my husband and I want! We just tell family members that it would be a great present for us, and usually we’re stocked up pretty well after that. Granted, we don’t use the Keurig every day, so we don’t really drink that much to begin with. I’ve also found the boxes on sale at Kroger and usually pair it with a coupon, and a lot of people have mentioned getting them at BB&B with a coupon, which is where my dad usually gets his (and he drinks A LOT of Keurig coffee). If you use Swagbucks, you can use your points to get Amazon gift cards and then purchase K-cups through Amazon (and get free shipping in most cases if you spend $25 or more). I’m interested to see what other suggestions people have!
K* says
I was just about to suggest this! That’s what we did for Christmas – then again, my fiance and I actually WON our Keurig at his company Christmas party, along with a sampler pack and a refillable k-cup. It was a win-win for us, because our families knew what to get us, and we knew we would like our gifts!
Meredith Phillips says
We don’t have a Keurig, but we’ve done this for other things we have. We’ve never bought a Brita pitcher filter before because we always get several packs as stocking stuffers for Christmas!
Angie says
I was going to suggest this too. I have family members who ask me what I want for Christmas, and I used to hate the question because I really don’t need many things. Now I suggest K-cups. Keurigs make great gifts. We love getting them because they are consumable luxuries that don’t sit around unused for years taking up space and adding clutter.
Angie says
I meant to say K-cups make great gifts. But for those with bigger gift budgets, Keurigs make great gifts too!
Em says
Get a refillable K-cup like the ekobrew, http://www.amazon.com/ekobrew-Refillable-Keurig-Brewers-1-Count/dp/B0051SU0OW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328727094&sr=8-1
I have a friend who really likes hers, significantly more than she liked the My K-Cup refillable. This one is easier to use, less expensive, and less likely to get grounds in your cup.
Lisa says
Get a refillable one! That way you can still drink your favorite coffee and save money! Also, I highly recommend the Solefill one http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004CXG07S
Beth B. says
Have you tried looking for a MyK-Cup (I think that’s the name)?? It’s a refillable cup especially for these coffee makers where you can use your own coffee grounds, loose leaf teas, etc. I saw them @ Target near the Keurig coffee makers a couple weeks ago and plan to get one for our coffee maker … price was around $18. But I think it can be found for cheaper on Amazon too.
Ashley says
Hey,
I usually will buy K-cups when Kohls or JcPenney send me a $10 off of $10 coupon. Also, some online stores sell K-cups in bulk, lowering the price. I think the site is Coffee4Less (??? not too sure)
Another option: buy the coffee filter attachment for the K-cup and put regular coffee grinds in there.
Hope this helps! Remember that paying .50 for a cup of coffee is still a good deal, although you may feel that buying a box of K-Cups feels so much more expensive than a pound of coffee.
Ashley at TheThriftyWife.com
Kaitlin says
I was going to submit the same question! Can’t wait to read answers. Currently we get ours at Sam’s because they have the best price I’ve seen, but the brands and flavors are limited and you have to commit to so many!
Jamie says
I know that this is only a one time thing, but if you register your Keurig on their website they will give you a code to buy two boxes, get two boxes free. My total came out to be $30 some odd dollars for almost 100 cups.
Amy says
Take advantage of the freebies that are offered! I got a Keurig for Christmas and have received several freebies (for liking them on Facebook) that Crystal has mention.
Kirsten H says
I know this doesn’t help someone who already has a coffee maker that takes the K cups and wants to use it less expensively, but if you are looking for a single cup alternative, look into a Melitta Single Cup Coffee Brewer. If you search for this on amazon, you’ll find one that is prime-eligible and only $5.29. It is essentially a cone shaped piece of plastic that a smallish paper cone filter fits inside of. I boil water in a teapot on the stove (or even better, heat to just less than than boiling), and pour the water from the teapot over the grounds in the filter/plastic cone. The Melitta sits on top of pretty much any coffee maker. Not quite as easy as the touch of a button, but I can do it pretty fast.
Kirsten H says
Oh, that should be “sits on top of pretty much any coffee CUP”. 🙂
kim says
First, if you have never registered your keurig, DO SO! They send you a code for buy 2 get two free plus free shipping. The only other ways I have saved on them is purchasing them through ebates to get something back. I was able to get a good deal from bed bath and beyond with free shipping and a percentage back. Honestly, pricing wise, I have found keurigs to be the best.
Melissa Bell says
Buy the solo fill cup. Fill it to the top with your favorite brew, and it’s awesome! We had the refillable cup that came with our machine, and it didn’t taste good or work well. We bought the solo fill (red) cup at Bed Bath & Beyond (with 20% off coupon), and it is awesome! We save hundreds! … we drink a lot of coffee! We bought a second one to have on hand. BEST PRODUCT I’ve found in a Long time!
http://www.solofill.com/
Kelly says
This looks awesome! Thanks for the tip. I’ve already told my friends and family about it.

I use the ekobrew, which is similar, but these look like they might be easier to clean. I wish I knew about these before I bought my ekobrew. We already have 2 ekobrews.
Patti says
at Costco you can get 108 kcups for like $40. it makes them .37 ea. Plus these are really cool, check out this link http://k-saver.com/ Its kind of like K-cups but it seems to be a cheaper option. these are cool too, check out http://www.my-kap.com/MYK/ Even a K-cup at the end of the day will save money cuz you can just refill it.
kristen says
When Kohl’s has their 30% off codes they’re usually not too expensive from there 🙂
Sally B says
I usually order mine from Kohls when I have a 30% off coupon and $10 Kohls cash for every $50 spent.
Lori Carter says
I loved reading all these ideas. I don’t have one of these but have friends that do and the K-cups seem so expensive! I never knew there was a filter you could buy so you could use your own coffee. I’ll definitely pass this along.
Erin says
We actually bought a My K-Cup which is a reusable filter that holds coffee grounds. That way, if you’re not finding K-Cups on sale, you can still use a regular bag of coffee! 🙂
We also use the 10% and 20% off coupons for Bed Bath & Beyond and sometimes you can get a $5 off one too. This brings the price significantly down. 🙂
Christie says
The cheapest I’ve found them without a coupon is at Sam’s club. They come 80 to a box for $32- $39 depending on what brand you choose. Last time I was there, they also had a box of 72 hot chocolate cups for $25.
Kristin says
I like the reuseable k-cup. http://www.amazon.com/Keurig-K-Cup-Reusable-Coffee-Filter/dp/B000DLB2FI. One bag of your favorite coffee goes really far! This is much more economical not to mention better for the environment.
CouponFrugality says
We started using a refillable filter (Ekobrew). Then I can put any brand of coffee I want in them, use coupons, etc. The cost savings is significant.
Erin says
We have had the same problem and switched to using our favorite brand of ground coffee and an ekobrew insert. A little bit more trouble, but much cheaper and more eco-friendly!

Buying six boxes directly from Keurig.com will get you a 15% discount, free shipping, and a free sample box of your choice containing 5 k-cups. You will also earn points which can be redeemed for half off accessories and brewers. We’ve used our points for a frother, brewers to give as gifts, and a k-cup holder for our kitchen counter. Also, it’s important to note that the boxes from Keurig.com have 22-24 cups in them, more than the boxes at the grocery store or BBB! When you do the math per cup, I think this is the best deal for the convenience factor. Plus it keeps me out of a tempting store.
I’ve also signed up for the subscribe and save option on amazon.com. If they have the type of coffee you want with that s&s option, it’s usually the best deal. But always check how much it costs per k-cup to know if it’s a good deal or not.
To stretch the value of our k-cups I use the leftover coffee grounds in my compost. I do wish they’d invent a recyclable k-cup.
Heather Kabbes says
We order ours on Amazon and we can usually find deals when combining Subscribe & Save that way!

There’s a discussion on theKitchn about how the K-cups work out to $51 per pound. I understand the allure of convenience, but is it really worth the extra cost?

K* says
While the per pound cost might be higher if you’re comparing it only on that value, look at it this way: brewing entire pots of “good” coffee and only drinking 1 or 2 cups would cost a whole bunch, too.
Plus … I bet those people aren’t using coupons.
Crystal says
So true! We only have one because it was a Father’s day gift for my husband a few years ago. He drinks maybe 2-3 cups a week. I don’t drink it at all, and I don’t really know how to make a “good” pot of coffee. It’s a treat for him, and it keeps him out of the coffee shop, so it definitely saves us money over the old way of doing things. If we were big coffee drinkers, then I don’t think it would be worth it.
Jess says
Not only are they not using coupons, they are overpaying. There example is 10.79 for 12 cups!
Jillbert says
But you don’t have to brew an entire pot to get one or two cups. Just brew the amount you want. I get how these might be convenient if you just drink 1 cup every so often but if you drink more than that, they just don’t make sense money wise.
Lindsay says
I agree. We have a little Cuisinart coffee pot that makes 1, 2, 3 or 4 cups depending on how much water you put in. We rarely waste coffee! And it’s super easy to use and clean. I can’t imagine paying for those cups!
ERIKA M says
I disagree. For coffee snobs, the way to get a good cup of coffee is to brew a large pot. I know it sounds ridiculous, my husband would say, “the coffee is not good if you make 1-2 cups (we had a krups coffee pot)” and I would tell him “yeah right” then we began to do some research on coffee and read that coffee diehards recommend things like “cold filtered water, fresh ground beans and making 4-6 cups at a time”. If coffee is your luxury, or your splurge, like my husbands and my daily coffee time is then the Keurig is a luxury AND we don’t end up wasting any. Now we use the Eko brew kcup- and with a little tweaking, we have an awesome cup of coffee. To each their own, but “our coffee time” with 4 little ones NEEDS a good cup of coffee! 🙂
Cathie says
I am a very thrifty person, but I do enjoy a good cup of coffee. My issue with brewing pots vs. my Keurig is that I only like my coffee very hot, and even a thermal pot doesn’t keep it hot enough. Using the reusable filter, I can buy whatever coffee I like (on sale, with coupons) and when the actual K-cups are on sale, I can buy those. Millstone happens to be on sale at the moment at my Shoprite, and I have $2 coupons.
LMG says
Yes, this is exactly why I don’t own a Kreurig. I’m afraid of the high prices. I did see that it was possible to make your own K-Cups, and that interests me greatly. I think there is also a reusable filter that can be purchased. I’m interested in the answers too. I know K-Cups are super convenient….I just haven’t decided they are really worth the continued expense.
Erin says
I agree. I love coffee, but I don’t get the Keurig thing at all. You can buy a small coffee pot for much less, or if you are a coffee snob, spend $40 for a French press that makes incredible coffee.
K* says
It’s ideal for people who don’t drink a lot of coffee. I could have one cup over the weekend and be satisfied, and brewing a whole pot for one cup is impractical and wasteful, and it’s not good for me to drink ALL the coffee that I would want!
It’s also cheaper than buying full bags of good coffee, and if you like variety, it can’t be beat!
Elaine says
Most French presses make two cups max, but it’s easy enough to make just one. I’ve seen “smoking” K cup deals and they’re far more expensive per cup than good bagged beans, though certainly cheaper than stopping at a coffeehouse.
Jess says
I think the people who buy bagged beans, grind them, hand press one cup of coffee, wash the press, and then start all over for the member of the family who drinks decaf are a very different population than those who love the keurig. As one person posted, she loves it because she can make it one handed, and yes, that’s important for some of us. We are all in different stages.
Courtney says
We don’t actually buy the cups for our Keurig. They have these little filter baskets that you can fill with whatever kind of ground coffee you want, then they just pop right in! We end up using Maxwell House coffee because we can usually get it pretty cheap. Compared to k-cups, it makes a huge difference!
Miriam says
I recently bought some of the ekobrew reusable cups and have had great luck so far. These are great because you don’t have to pop the little plastic part out of your Keurig that the kcups actually go in. I used the My Kcup for the longest time and really liked that too, but just decided to try something different.
I found that the key to getting the My Kcup to work without overflowing was to slide the little plastic ring right down to the tip of the pointy thing that punctures the kcups. That enabled there to be a better seal between the resuable Kcup and the water that flows through it. Hope that helps!
Cyndi says
I like to use the Keurig website itself. They offer free shipping over a certain amt and they have 24 cups per box as opposed to 18 at BB&B, Kohl’s and Wal-Mart boxes. They also sometimes offer coupons and I always order 3 or 4 boxes at a time. I only drink 1-2 cups a day at the most and it’s been cheaper for me that dumping a 1/2 pot of coffee every day.
I hated the My Kup thing, defeated the whole purpose of the machine and there were many times that it malfunctioned and I wasted that.
Honestly, Keurigs aren’t the most economical choice but the convenience is worth it to me.
Rachel Jones says
We love our Keurig – but not the price of k-cups. The prices have gone up and up over the years so rather than buying k cups we use EZ Cups. These are not the ones sold by Keurig – look for them on Amazon. You have to buy EZ cup filters, but then you can use any coffee you want (we get a great deal at Costco on whole bean Columbian and grind it ourselves in small batches). I am a SAHM and drink coffee all day (!) and I have found that one EZ Cup filter can be reused all day long (just dump out the grounds and add fresh ones to brew a new cup), so the filters last a long time. My original EZ Cup is at least a year old and still going strong, so they seem to be sturdy.
The only time I still buy K-cups are when we are expecting house guests or have a super coupon/sale/gift card deal going on. Bed, Bath and Beyond has 20% coupons and I usually use those to buy any k-cups. There are quite a few online sites that sell k-cups as well that you may want to look into. Good Luck and Happy Brewing 🙂
Kellie says
Its not a significant savings but if there is a Bed Bath and Beyond close to you, sign up for the emails and you should start getting coupons. We buy them there and they have a great selection. Ours also lets you use multiple coupons per transaction. Also we have this http://www.amazon.com/Solofill-Refillable-K-Cup-Keurig-Brewers/dp/B004CXG07S/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1328725956&sr=8-3
and it works well.
Kristin says
I get my K-Cups from Bed Bath and Beyond. They allow you to use the 20% coupons that I get in the mail and it makes for a pretty good deal. I can also find K-Cups for really cheap at places like HomeGoods and T.J. Maxx. I have had my Keurig for over a year now and have yet to pay full price 🙂
michelle says
I agree with using your own reusable filter. It’s the cheapest route.
MamaLaundry says
I was literally just thinking about how we can make coffee cheaper in our house! I’m the only coffee drinker and I usually have 2 cups from our Keurig each day.
I have 4 littles and almost always have one of them on my hip…which leads to doing most things with only 1 hand. So the single K-cups are ultra convenient. What a great idea to buy them at Bed, Bath & Beyond with a coupon! I rarely go shopping, so I didn’t realize they sold them there. Thanks for the tip.
Melissa says
The reusable filter that comes with the K-cups definitely takes 2 hands to fill it and position properly, but the ekobrew filters for Keurigs is flat on the bottom so you can do it with one hand. It saves alot of money and you always get your favorite coffee. I purchased my ekobrew filters on Amazon.com.
Donna says
Ehow.com tells you how to fill used K-cups with coffee of your choice. I have heard bad reviews of the expensive purchased reusable filters when you can refill the used ones several times over.
Jennifer Kiss Hunter says
I paid 39.99 for 80 from BJs wholesale club. That is the cheapest I have found it here in NJ, they also have them on their website. I tried getting them from Ebay but haven’t found any good deals on them lately. 🙁
Shannon Hartman says
I have gotten a few coupons from the keurig website itself. If you order a large quanity shipping will be free. I have done that to stock up but for the most part I use the resuable filter. It’s not quite as good as a kcup (perfect cup every time!) but it’s so much cheaper.
Cindy says
We also use the Ekobrew refillable K-cup on occasion and have had no problems with it overflowing. Also, keep your eyes open for clearance at various stores (I just got a box for $3.99 the other day). Also, when you can combine Kohl’s cash and their discount coupons with a sale, you can frequently get a good deal. Finally, for a big stock up, hit Costco. The price isn’t rock bottom, but it’s decent (45-60 cents/cup) and they carry good brands (such as Starbuck’s K-cups, which can be more expensive at grocery stores).
Debbie says
I was just going to suggest Kohls sale, + Kohls cash, + Kohls coupons (10-30% off). I stocked up a few months ago but time to do it again. I use the refillable K-cup most of the time but try to keep a small stock of K-cups on hand. You can also find them at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Gordmans and those type of chain stores for around $7.99/18 ct.; however, variety is limited.
Angie says
I use a similar strategy. I have an ekobrew refillable k-cup filter, and I try to find deals on k-cups to use on the weekends.
I had another refillable k-cup filter before the ekobrew, but I didn’t like it because I had to remove the little basket the k-cups go into from the Kuerig, and replace it with the basket that came with the filter. I found this a pain. The only drawback with the ekobrew is that removing the coffee grounds can be difficult. Once I remove the coffee grounds, however, I even wash it in the dishwasher once a week, by putting it in a basket, once used for bottles and breast pump parts, on the top rack.
For the best deals on k-cups, I found using Swagbucks at Amazon works well. I can usually only afford to get a pack of 15-18 every couple of months, but it keeps the cost down since I’m not using actual money but Swagbucks. If I used my own money, I don’t think the deal would be that great – although Amazon occasionally has k-cup sales, and I sign-up for email reminders when certain k-cups go on sale.
I have seen coupons, but lately they have been for Folgers, which hasn’t gone on sale in my area, and the coupon alone doesn’t save you much or Bigelow tea. I find k-cup teas too strong, and pointless, since using a tea bag isn’t that labor intensive.
The next best deal has been at BJs. That is the best deal per unit, but you have to buy a lot, and drop about $30 for around 80 k-cups, and the only option available is Newman’s Own.

Lynn says
We no longer use our K-Cup at home (just in our camper) because it was getting too expensive for the coffee. My husband fills a thermos before he leaves home to take with him to work all day, so we were going through lots. We did try one of the reusable K-Cup filters, it is a filter that is about $20 before a sale or coupons, that you put in and then fill with your regular any brand coffee. We did not have great success with it, it kept overflowing, but I have heard others have been able to use it just fine. Maybe someone else can comment on how it worked for them (I wouldn’t want you to spend money to find out it doesn’t work for you either!) If it works, it’s great because you can use any coffee you want!! In the end, it was just a better deal for us to go back to a traditional coffee maker.
MamaLaundry says
Lynn, this happened to me too. I had a friend instruct me to use premium coffee as opposed to something cheaper. I switched from Folgers to Starbucks/Dunkin’ Donuts and it hasn’t overflowed since. Switching to a different coffee solved the problem for us completely.
Miriam says
I had the same overflow problem when I got the reusable Kcup and did a lot of looking around online to see what I could do to fix it. I found that the key to getting the My Kcup to work without overflowing was to slide the little plastic ring right down to the tip of the pointy thing that punctures the kcups. That enabled there to be a better seal between the resuable Kcup and the water that flows through it. Hope that helps!
Christie says
I also found that if you pack the coffee to tightly, it will overflow. Try packing the coffee a little more loosely so the water can get between the grains. I suspect that might be the same reason the premium coffees work better- they’re a little more finely ground and absorb the water better.
Faith Stewart says
So glad to see this…I had decided the reusable k-cup was USELESS. The coffee I made from it was nasty, messy, and full of grounds. Thanks for the advice ladies:)
Niki Blake says
Thank you for this! I too, could not get the k-cup to work for me…..I am going to try again b/c although I love the Keurig those coffees are EXPENSIVE!!!
Lynn says
Thanks ladies for the help! I will try some of your tips. I was using Caribou coffee, so I don’t think that’s it. My husband does like a really strong cup though so it may have been too tightly packed or the little plastic ring! What great help!!!
Heather says
I have to readjust the plastic ring before using the reusable KCup anytime I’ve used a regular one beforehand.

I buy them at Bed & Bath using a 20% off coupon. You can get some really good deals after the holidays!
Wendy says
I bought re-usable K-cup filters and grind my own coffee to go in them.
Andi says
We have a Keurig, but we don’t buy the cups. We have a few of the reusable filters you can buy for it and grind our own coffee. We have enough filters that we don’t need to dump and wash them after every use. Sure, not as convenient, but you save a ton of money, and the fresh ground coffee tastes great.
Jen says
I started using my own coffee in the special K-cup with filter. The pre-filled cups are super easy & convenient, but expensive and create a lot of waste. I save a LOT of money by using my own coffee. I usually only have one cup a day so the single-cup brewing system makes sense for me.
Ana says
Best savings is to not use them at all! You can get the my kcup filter thing that you can fill yourself with coffee that you can get on sale. You can get the fill-your-own filter at bed bath and beyond for around $15, plus you can use a 20% off coupon they’re always sending out.
Megan says
Great point! These things are so wasteful and bad for the environment.
Cathy Rose says
I use the 20% off coupon to buy Keurig cups at Bed Bath & Beyond, I also use the fill your own filter.
Dawn says
I was going to say the same thing. I rarely purchase the super expensive K-cups (although it’s cheaper than Starbucks!). There are 2 types of refillable k-cups you can buy to use with your own brand of coffee. The first is the kind that doesn’t take a filter, just fill with coffee and shut the lid. I found this type to be hard to remove the coffee grounds after each use. They are compacted by the pressure of the brewing process and I had to dig them out with the end of a spoon or butter knife. Too much work for my taste. I currently use the kind that takes a k-cup coffee filter. MUCH easier to dispose of the used coffee grounds because it has a spring inside the filter and you just pop out the coffee filter and the grounds pop out easily. No mess, although these filters cost about $5 for 30 filters (?) at Bed Bath and Beyond. I’d much rather spend the few cents extra for an easy cleanup. I love my Keurig since now I don’t have to brew a whole pot of coffee and then reheat each cup since I only drink about 2 cups of coffee per day.
marcia says
I recently discovered Ekobrew cups. They are great, refillable K cups. I hesitated at first, because, after all, the big plus of the K cup is ease of use and instant availability. BUT, and this is a big one for me – they were taking such a huge chunk of money every month, that I decided to give it a try. They’re not cheap – I got 5 for about $9 each. However, now I can use my Starbuck’s and Seattle’s Best coffee (scored on sale and with great coupons for dirt cheap). This has brought down the per cup cost from a little over 50 cents to under 30 cents! The refillables are paid off in less than 2 months. And nothing goes to the landfill.
