I need to find a credit monitoring service and I was wondering if you or your readers have a particular service that stands apart from the others? -Anna

Quizzle! I’ve been using it for years, and I love it. It’s free!
I know that no one likes to pay for a credit monitoring system but I will tell you that your bank offers it and you will pay a monthly fee but you can actually see your credit report every month. And they also have a service where they can help you to dispute any creditor or anything that is not correct. Plus it has simulators to show you how you can pay down your debt quickly and how you can get your points up on your credit report. I have mine and I pay 15.00 a month but it is well worth the $15.00. I also have credit karma but I see that the one from my bank is more accurate. Good Luck!
I haven’t enrolled in this yet, can’t vouch for it, BUT my friend gets credit monitoring free through her AAA membership. I just checked their website and this is what it says: “Enrolling in Identity Theft Monitoring is a critical step to help protect your identity. ProtectMyID® Essential, offered free to AAA members and associate members age 18 and older, provides Identity Theft Monitoring through daily monitoring of your Experian® credit report.” So, that’s a free option for your readers who already belong to AAA.
I’ve been using Credit Karma for years and I really like it. It’s totally free (no “trial memberships”) and easy to use.
Quizzle is good! It’s free and you get a free updated report ever 6 months.
if just want basic credit monitoring you don’t need a free or paid service. you just have to place a fraud alert with one of the credit reporting companies every 90 days. that one company will share the other 2. You’ll get an alert but you have to take action.
go with credit monitoring s+ identify theft protection. service should monitor, notify and take action on your behalf.
i went with lifelock ($125 to $400 per yr) after my house was robbed in 2011. didn’t appear any personal data taken but wanted to be sure it could never be used.
they provide different levels of service which may include: notify if name/ssn has been used as alias by criminals, will notify you if SO moves into your neighborhood, unauthorized add of persons to your bank/investment accts, unauthorized change of addresses, checks if data publicly available on file sharing sites, cancels cc and replaces if wallet stolen/lost, monitors if your info bought/sold online, etc.
I have to say I am unimpressed with Experian’s ID theft monitoring service. I signed up for the free year for those of us who shopped at Target last year during that situation. I have never gotten data from them…and that includes when I actually had fraud on a CC and had to deal with that. Not a blip. Seems a little faulty if it will not even let you know about real, true fraud let alone suspicious activity…
I agree. The experian website is no good at all. In fact, Experian itself as a compnay is difficult to deal with so I would never pay for a service they offered but I too had the free thing from shopping at target and I don’t get emails about changes to my credit report even though there had been some.
I love Credit Karma! It really is free! They do not ask for credit card info when you sign up for your free account. I have found that it is pretty accurate and alerts you by email when there is a change to your credit report. Great way to stay on top of it!
Crytal, I am listening to you on 95.3 right now and I… I’m speechless! You’re amazing! For the longest I’ve felt exactly what you described–I determine my worth by what I get done on my to-do list, and trust me, it doesnt amount to much! It was the best thing ever to hear you speak the words I’ve been feeling!!
I am so very grateful that you found the broadcast encouraging! Thank you for your kind words! {Hugs!}
