Have you noticed a dearth of substantive posts here this week? I sure have especially since I had a long list of posts planned to write–like our menu for this week, the next installment in the Becoming A Work-At-Home Mom series, some giveaways, and our financial update.
I got my wisdom teeth pulled on Wednesday morning and while it wasn't at all as bad as I was expecting the whole ordeal to be, I underestimated the fact that pain would take away my brain power. I don't know about you, but I can't write anything worth reading when I'm brain-dead.
The good news is that I'm feeling much better today and hoping in a few more days I'll be back to normal (and maybe able to eat something besides soft foods again!) so I'll do my best to get things caught back up-to-speed here next week as I know some of you are getting a wee bit antsy for me to get on with the promised posts. Thanks for your patience!
I did all my grocery shopping on Tuesday and here's what we bought:
Above is shown our $20 combined Target and Aldi trip. Read more details along with price break-downs and coupon links here.
And above is our Dillon's (Kroger) trip. I mostly just wanted to do a Mega Event transaction but I also found a few markdowns and used one of my $1.50/2 lbs. of cheese coupons to buy cheese. All totaled, we spent $12.61 at Dillons for the above groceries.
I'm kind of embarrassed to post these pictures as most everything is from a box this week and that's not typical for us. However, I promise we didn't subsist on baby wipes and marshmallows this week!
Since I was down and out half of this week, my family lived on dinners from the freezer and food already in our pantry and cupboards–which is the beauty of buying ahead and buying in bulk.
And me? Well, I mostly have been living on juice, mashed potatoes, yogurt, and cottage cheese–not the most balanced diet ever, but you gotta do what you gotta do when you have oral surgery. It's only been a few days but I am so very ready to eat real food again!
Next week, I hope to be back to a more balanced diet and menu-planning again!

I am not able to pull up the cheese coupon. How can I get it? I live in Florida, are they accepted here?
lizajane says
Looks like more great deals! I appreciate everyone saying how they used the cheese coupons. I bought pre-packaged sliced cheese today at a local grocery store, but was afraid to try the coupons since they are so picky sometimes.
Hope you’re pain-free soon.

I had my wisdom teeth out just after high school. The first solid food I had was Arby’s roast beef sandwich – PLAIN….it was so tender, didnt hurt a bit to eat and the roastbeef is great protein! Hopefully you have an Arby’s near ya.

I live in Arkansas and so I am able to use the cheese coupon, it even worked on 2 containers of cottage cheese!

I was wondering if you were okay, so thanks for the update! I’ve really been enjoying your work at home series so far because that’s exactly what I’m planning to do once my promised and I are finally married. I have a disability, and we both know how difficult it will be for me to ever hold down a true full-time job because of it. Also, since we both want to have a big family, it’s very important that one of us is always able to be at home with whatever future children God blesses us with. I’ve always found your blog to be very inspiring–I even started eating black beans in preparation for my post-grad life because of you, as silly as that may sound! Take your time recovering, and don’t worry about the blogosphere right now. We’ll still be here when you get back. I’ll be praying for your recovery!

Feel better, I had mine done two at at time….it really wasn’t bad at all….I’d recommend it over all four any day!

Sorry you are hurting! I don’t know how you do all you do even when you feel good. Your blog has made a big difference for my family- and I really appreciate what you have taught me. I figured that even without pain your trips would look a little different this month anyway- since you have a freezer full of food. I couldn’t believe all the catty comments on your guest post last week either! My son and I have food allergies- so our menu and our budget are a little different than yours, but our grocery bill has been cut by at least 50% since I started reading you blog- and that is success! (and I am still learning) Some of those women responded like you had told them exactly what to do… instead of sharing with them what you do- if someone will apply your concepts to their budget it will make a difference… no matter how much money they have to work with or if they are feeding an army or they have special dietary needs! You have encouraged me to tap into my creativity- and it is changing our lives.

Just wanted to let you know I feel your pain….literally! I had my wisdom teeth pulled Thursday morning. Hope your feeling better soon & looking forward to reading more of your awesome posts!

I got my wisdoms pulled in 2004 when I was almost 19. Whew, what an experience! You’re right; it’s hard to eat a balanced diet but when you’re able to, you are glad to see real food again! 😉
And it’s good for losing a bit of weight too if you’re wanting to 😉 I lost about 5 lbs total from the 3 surgeries (tops and then one each for the bottoms at separate times from May to July 2004)
I’m glad you are recovering well and feeling better.
Thanks for the photos and all you do!
Courtney says
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Crystal!
My freezer is overflowing with 18 lbs. of shredded cheese. I used my four $1.50 coupons to get 8 lbs. at Walmart this week, and the week before I had gotten two five pound bags at Sam’s. Guess we’re all set in the cheese department for awhile 🙂
Abbie says
I had no idea you could freeze marshmallows!
Does the texture change when you freeze them? Do you have to use them for baking or are they okay to eat after frozen?
I got 8 boxes of cereal for $.95 each at Kroger yesterday. I’m happy with that!

I just want to say that I think you’re doing a great job. I was surprised at the criticism about your guest post earlier this week. I think some people try hard to excuse themselves for not doing their best for their families. It’s sad that we’re tempted to tear others down just to try and make ourselves look better, when instead we should be encouraging and uplifting one-another.
I am curious what the large marshmallows are for though – s’mores? Rice Crispy treats? Just to have on hand? I’m assuming they’re not for hot chocolate 🙂
***********************
Money Saving Mom here: Good question! I’m planning to use some of these marshmallows for school counting projects and Christmas baking, so I thought it’d be good to have both sizes. But s’mores sound like a good idea, too. 🙂
Marnie says
Why keep apologizing when you buy packaged foods? If people think that is all you eat, they are missing the point of posting the pictures. You are merely showing us the great deals you’ve gotten; we know that is not all that you eat or buy in a week! (you have children-they tend to eat marshmallows sometimes!) Keep posting your deals (without being embarrassed!), as I LOVE seeing the bargains you’ve found!

Very nicely done! Once I move into a bigger house where I have a walk-in pantry or basement I am going to stockpile like there is no tomorrow!

Hope you’re feeling better soon! I had a rough time when I had my wisdom teeth removed. Natural childbirth was less painful! I’d have a baby over oral surgery any day! 🙂
Maura says
Yes – getting your wisdom teeth out is a world of no fun, but being pain free without them will be great. Glad you are feeling better! Honestly, I visit only 2-3 “Mom blogs” as I call them for couponing info besides the main couponing forum where I post, and yours is a consistent “must read” daily. I can wait patiently to read your next post. *drums fingers on table* LOL.
Get well soon! 🙂

I hope you took advantage of having a sore mouth and splurged on a milkshake. I know it’s getting too cold for milkshakes, but they are so good when you are dealing with mouth pain. I’ve had my wisdom teeth cut out, as well as having jaw surgery requiring me to be wired shut for 8 weeks, so I totally understand how you’ve been feeling. Hope you are better soon! That first bite of “real” food (non-soft) will taste sooooo good!
Lucky says
Thanks for keeping it real with your shopping trips! Hope you feel better soon. For some reason getting my wisdom teeth out knocked me for more of a loop than giving birth.

Glad you are feeling better Crystal….having wisdom teeth pulled is NO FUN!

What are you going to do with all the marshmallows this week?!!
Glad the wisdom teeth are behind you!

Money Saving Mom here: I’m planning to stick the marshmallows in the freezer to save for Christmas baking, hot cocoa, and school projects.

Glad you are feeling better. It’s been about 14 years since I had mine removed and I still remember the pain.

I was wondering how the cheese savings was going to work out….I shop at Dillons and looked high and low for a 2lb block of cheese and of course couldnt find one! Its good to know they will accept it two 1lb packages. Thanks for the info!
