Books I Read Last Week:
Mastering Evernote — I downloaded this book when it was available for free from Amazon. Why? Because people are always singing the praises of Evernote to me and I just can’t get into it. I figured I should read through this book to see if I could be otherwise convinced. Well, instead of convincing me to start using Evernote, it convinced me that my current system is working quite fine.
Nurturing the Soul of Your Family — I disagreed with quite a bit of the underlying beliefs of the author of this book, but was inspired by some of the contents. I especially appreciated the focus on making time to fill up your soul instead of just rushing through life and trying to make it through your to-do list.
Books I Hope to Finish This Week
I Thought It Was Just Me (But It Isn’t) — I’ve had this one started for quite awhile, and it’s good. It’s just deep and it’s taking me awhile to get through!
A Proper Pursuit — I’ve not started this book yet, but am really hoping to finally get this book read this week while we’re traveling!
Addicted to Busy — This was another book that I found when looking for another title and thought it looked like a good read. Have you read it?
You and Me Forever — Multiple readers have said that I MUST read this book, so I’m excited to dive into it!
Me Before You — My friend, Ginger, told me this was one of her very favorite books so I knew I had to read it.
What have you read recently? What are you planning to read this week? Any good book recommendations for me?
When do you find time to read on top of everything else you do?! Seriously, I’m lucky if I get to read for 10 minutes at night before I’m crashing asleep. You just amaze me sometimes! LOL
Just starting “What every mom needs”, a MOPS book. Also on my reading list is “I Beg to Differ”
Recently I read Crazy Busy, which is absolutely excellent as well as Honey for a Teen’s Heart which is also very good.
The Perfect Score Project was a bit over the top, but still interesting and helpful for any mom of teens, especially teens who are writing the SAT.
And Jonathan Edwards by Simonetta Carr, almost a picture book, is a great introduction for anyone 7 and up.
All except Honey for a Teen’s Heart I reviewed on my blog, but I don’t want to clutter this comment with links, so if you’re interested just use the search box.
I’ve just started Dale Carnegie’s book How to Stop Worrying and Start Living. Phenomenal, so far.
I enjoyed Crazy Busy… and I didn’t realize there was a Honey for a Teen’s Heart! I’ll have to keep that in the back of my brain for when I have a teenager in a few years.
Addicted to Busy was featured on Focus on the Family a while back. You might be able to still find the broadcast online. Boyd’s interview was excellent.
Thanks so much for mentioning that!
I have had so many people tell me to try Evernote, too. But my current system — paper calendar, paper priority lists — works absolutely fine. If it isn’t broken, don’t change it. Plus, no app will make a person organized if they’re not willing to figure out what is a priority and what isn’t in the first place.
Such great advice here! Glad to know I’m in good company! 🙂
Yay! I am so glad you will finally have a chance to dig into You and Me Forever! Right now, I am reading Talk Like Ted by Carmine Gallo and 50 Women Every Christian Should Know by Michelle De Rusha.
Oh, both books you’re reading sound so good!
Crystal, what are you using instead of Evernote to keep on top of your various projects?
I basically use Google calendar, my email inbox and files, and daily written to-do list. Here’s a post that explains more how I use Google calendar: https://moneysavingmom.com/2014/01/7-ways-google-calendar-simplifies-life.html
Glad I’m not the only one having trouble understanding the fuss about Evernote!
Do you mind sharing what you disagreed about in Nurturing the Soul of Your Family? Trying to decide if I should put it on my reading list…
I’d like to know as well 🙂
It was from a more New-Age/humanistic standpoint instead of a Christian standpoint.
I was wondering if that might be the case. Thanks for the info!
I am glad to hear your review of the book about Evernote! I too have downloaded it and tried to get into it but just can’t!
So glad to know I’m not alone!
Just last night I finished Glimpses of Grace, and it’s so good, that even though I’m trying to get rid of most of our books, I’m going to keep this one! I’m sure I’ll be reading over it in the future from time to time!

I can’t wait to read that book! I’ve heard rave reviews of it!
I saw the Chan’s book trailer and thought it sounded great! Looking forward to seeing what you think of it and if it’s buy worthy or check out of the library worthy. 🙂 Now that I think of it, that would be a great post – what books you love enough to have take up space on your bookshelf. (I’m running out of room and definitely need to be more careful.)
What I’m reading now is When Helping Hurts. 2/3 of the way done and am really enjoying it. Very logical read where you need to think but at the same time very understandable. Highly recommend for learning are to truly best help others.
I sort of talked about that in this post: https://moneysavingmom.com/2014/01/take-virtual-tour-bookshelves.html
I’ve heard great things about When Helping Hurts and really want to read it!
Please tell me how you read so many books in one week? I would love too also!
Here’s a post I did answering that question: https://moneysavingmom.com/2014/01/qa-fit-reading-daily-schedule.html
Hopefully that gives you some practical help and inspiration!
Me Before You is a FANTASTIC book. I cannot say enough good things about all of the author’s novels.
I can’t wait to read it!
I am reading ‘not a fan.’ by Kyle Idleman. Our pastor compared it to Bonhoeffer but readable.
I’ve heard such great things about that book!
Crystal, what system do you use instead of Evernote? I am using it but don’t love it and would like to find something better. Thanks….
I basically use Google calendar, my email inbox and files, and daily written to-do list. Here’s a post that explains more how I use Google calendar: https://moneysavingmom.com/2014/01/7-ways-google-calendar-simplifies-life.html
Have you ever checked out Office Online
Outlook.com – email
People – contact list (shared or not)
calendar (shared or not)
OneDrive – storage (pics, docs, ebooks, etc)
Onenote- note-taking (shared or not)
MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint …
You can use Office Online for free or get Office365.
We’ve kind of grown with it for awhile and are really loving it now….particularly just being able to do almost everything with one resource rather than hopping around for different pieces.
I know everybody has different needs but I thought I’d just go ahead and throw it out there.
Thanks for sharing your reading list, Crystal. I’m always on the look out! This week I’m reading Communicating for a Change by Andy Stanly. I think it’s great for public speakers and writers, anyone who wants to communicate.
That sounds like such a great book!
