I’m so excited about how many of you are joining us for the 4 Weeks to a More Organized Home Challenge! If you missed today’s assignment, you can find it here.
It was a great day at the Hearts at Home conference! I loved getting to meet many of you there — and can’t wait to meet many more of you tomorrow.
Here are a few pictures from when I did the Assignment #10 projects earlier this week…
Cleaning the ceiling fans…
And the final batch of items from our homeschooling bins to get rid of.
How you do on Assignment #10? I’d love to have you share your progress and success with us so we can be inspired. Either post a link to your blog post below or leave a comment with your update.

Boom! And I’m caught back up! I’ve definitely been giving myself grace on this series and do the projects within the week, but not each day. It seems that if I do them in bulk on busy weeks it pays off in sanity! 🙂 I’m so glad we’re doing these assignments as I’m sure I hadn’t cleaned my light fixtures since *ahem* last year. Found some lovely moths too. Yuck.

So glad to be following this series, I moved and became a SAHM recently, and was feeling a little overwhelmed about how much there is to do around the house, and how much clutter I brought with me. thanks!

I cleaned our ceiling fan today, and the pillowcase tip from a reader was helpful. It didn’t look grimy until I cleaned it! I didn’t get to the light fixtures, but maybe I will tackle those one room at a time when I dust next. My husband did help me with some good decluttering of clothes and books, and we have 5 bags to donate next week! So progress has been made!

I’m loving this series. I usually have one of my teenage boys do the ceiling fans and light fixtures for me using a swiffer duster since they don’t need a chair to stand on. 😉

Even though I dust our ceiling fans about once a month, they were still dusty but not too bad. The light fixtures weren’t as bad as the fans. It’s nice to have them all done. Have fun at the conference.

Getting rid of 7 things is key for me! I clean a house one day a week as a side job and it takes me only 4 hrs. to clean a large house and I mean clean, clean. Lights, fans, baseboards are done every week. Lots of window blinds to dust every week, scrub floors on hands & knees, etc.. It takes me twice as long to clean my smaller house and I think it because of the extra “stuff” that I have to work around. I do have 3 small kids and the house I clean only has 2 adults but it’s amazing how much easier it is to maintain a house that contains less stuff.

My light fixtures and ceiling fans took a long time. I’ve neglected them for longer than I can remember, but now they’re clean (or cleaner than before anyway 😉 ). I’m glad to be keeping up with these challenges. I actually had trouble getting myself to relax and do something fun yesterday, but I did read more in a history book I’ve been reading and read a few extra chapters of a read-aloud to my kids. I forgot to gather 7 things to get rid of yesterday, but found 7 books to get rid of on my children’s bookshelves today.

Woohoo! Way to go!

I have realized that committing to this challenge was a little over-zealous for me this month. Oops. I have two young children, one of which is requiring significant attention these days. However, I’m SO glad I joined because I love the idea of getting rid of 7 things every day. Even I can do that while holding a fussy baby! We might not be cleaner, but we will have less things to move and reshuffle when I do get around to cleaning!

Just do what you can do and don’t worry about guilt!

Next time try using an old pillow case to dust your fan blades. Slip it over each blade and slide off, trapping the dust inside the case. So much nicer than dropping dust on the floor.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I’ve started collecting the free magazines I get in the mail, and donating them to my husband’s school (he is a teacher) as he informed me that many art teachers need magazines for collages and such!
