We had a busy day today so we didn’t get to do our planned frugal family fun project until after Jesse came home tonight. He was quite impressed with the project and amazed at the creative idea I came up with (Thanks, Pinterest, for making me look like I’m a cool mom! :)).
The kids were scratching their heads when I told them we were making Elephant Toothpaste. “Elephants have to brush their teeth, too?” “Oh wow, so this is what their toothpaste is made of?”
They were a little disappointed when I broke the news to them that this wasn’t actually Elephant Toothpaste, but regardless, we sure had fun making up crazy stories with the idea, anyway. 🙂
We didn’t have 6% Hydrogen Peroxide like the recipe called for (only 3%), but I thought our end result was still pretty cool — and the kids had a blast watching it bubble up and overflow.
Did you do something fun and frugal as a family today? If you blogged about it, I’d love for you to leave a link to your blog post below. Or, you can just tell us what you did in the comments.
Note: Since the purpose of this series is to encourage you to be intentional about fun in your home this summer, please only link up posts showing pictures/sharing details of fun things you did as a family today (or within the last few days). Posts that do not adhere to these guidelines will be deleted in order to make it fair for those who are putting forth a lot of effort to participate in this challenge.
It looks like you guys had a blast!! I’m so glad the 3% worked for you!! Thanks for the link love too! 😉
This morning, we were at a homeschool curriculum display, which was being held at a nice downtown hotel. As we were leaving, the girls saw other kids on the glass elevator and asked if they could ride it, too. We went to the top floor, which ended up having an awesome view of downtown and beyond. Such a fun, frugal surprise treat! We’ll have to remember to visit again the next time we’re nearby.
I’ve done the baking soda/vinegar mix, but this looks WAY cooler and worth a try. My kids will love it:)
What great ideas you’ve had! Love all the projects. We had a lot of fun today with Frozen Banana Yogurt Pops!
I’m glad the 3% worked. We might have to try that today.
My 5 year old son borrowed “How to Make a Fizzy Rocket” from the library. Yesterday we ran to the store and picked up the store brand alka seltzers. Cost me less than a $1 for 12 tablets (only need 1/2 tablet) and with a few items, we had on hand, we made the rocket. Kids had a blast watching it take off. Unfortunately the rocket didn’t make it through the day. That just means we get to have more fun making a new one. My son can’t wait.
I got to sneak out of a work meeting early yesterday and head over to our Library’s used book sale. I picked up a bunch of new coloring books and work books for the kids. They had a ton of fun looking at them later on.
the higher the percentage the peroxide the quicker/higher it will go. if you do a much higher percentage, it is a good idea to do it outside, it can shoot 10 feet in the air.
can you please send me the “recipe” for this project?? THanks!
Have you tried making a volcano? Get an old, small, bottle and tape it upright on a cardboard base. scrunch up lots of old newspaper and tape round the bottle to make the mountain. Use PVA glue and brown paper to cover the mountain – papier mache style – leaving the top of the bottle just sticking out. You can paint and varnish the mountain if you like, even build in things like valleys, or just brown paper and a good coat of PVA looks good. Put bicarb in the bottle. Mix vinegar with red food colouring in a jug. Pour red vinegar into bottle and stand back to see your volcano erupt!
We made play dough today. Well I should say the kids did most of the work I just did the stirring towards the end. We really like the homemade play dough as it is softer than store bought and my youngest can work with it better.
Both of my kids would have loved what you did today. Anything with a chemical reaction is really great to them.
I love how intently your children are watching and waiting! We had really hoped to try out Jessica’s crayon melt board today but just ran out of time. We did do 2 really cool sand art activities though!
We got our free slurpee and headed to the pool. Also went to Old Navy and got some GREAT deals on shorts and bathing suits plus a free bag,
