Welcome to December’s series on 31 Days of Giving on a Budget. In this series, I’ll be sharing inspiring stories from my readers and posts with practical ways to give — even on a limited income.
If you have a Giving on a Budget story to share of a way you or your family has given to others this year or this holiday season, please email me your story (or a link to your post on your blog) and a picture to go along with it, if possible. I’d love to hear it and possibly share it during this series!
Reader tip from Cher:
Your post about giving from our abundance made me think of a site I recently discovered — The Hunger Site. Thanks to the generous support of sponsors, every day when you click on the site, you can donate 1.1 cups of food. Cool!
I’ve had fun teaching my little guy about the beatitudes and he loves to crawl up in my lap to help work the computer and donate food for the hungry. Every little bit counts!
There are also other links on the page, like one for giving life saving medicine to children. -Cher

Thank you so much for reminding me of the Hunger Site and the related sites. I used to click on each of them every day but I had forgotten about them.

You can also go to http://www.freerice.com. Its managed by the World Food Program, and for every question you answer correctly, they donate 10 grains of rice to the hungry. Its a great way to have your kids do something that stretches their brain and teach them about giving at the same time. I use it as a filler activity for my 7th grade English students.

I have been doing daily clicks at The Hunger Site for years! Every morning when you log on to check your email or surf the net, start off by going to thehungersite.com and clicking the “click here to give” button on each of the tabs on the site. Helps great causes and takes less than a minute of your time each day!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this posting about thehungersite.com. I’ve been trying to find something to do at no cost in addition to our other donations and volunteer work. This is amazing! I went right down the list to click to donate (hunger, animals, etc..) and I will do this each and every day with my son. I hope everyone does too! 🙂

Just curious what happened to the green cupboard post? Does that not work anymore?

I couldn’t get the coupon code to work when I tried to order the ecards. It said it was invalid. So they must have stopped the promotion already 🙁

They were all out of gift cards. However, now they are saying you can purchase one $20 gift card for $10. Not as good of a deal, but it might be worth considering if you typically buy natural and organic products.
