Eat at Home Challenge: Slow Cooker Smoked Sausage & Sauerkraut Soup (Day 2)

Welcome to Day 2 of the Eat at Home Challenge — a one-week challenge designed to encourage and inspire you to make more meals at home in order to save money and eat more healthfully!

What I Made Today

For dinner tonight, I made Slow Cooker Smoked Sausage & Sauerkraut Soup. I subbed sweet potatoes for the white potatoes the recipe called for and I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

I’m going to make some Homemade Bread in the Bread Machine to go with it and will probably serve some sliced apples, too.

What is the Eat at Home Menu-Planning Service?

    We’re cooking most of our meals, still a ‘thing’ in my country (Romania). At first I thought we’d dine more out, when we have the money to do so, now, that we could afford at least a weekly restaurant meal, we don’t do it, since most restaurant meals are crappy and cooked with low quality ingredients.

    I’ve been very interested in cooking in the past 2 years and this means cooking our meals even when in our summer vacation. Not only it saves a lot of money, but I can feed my 3 year old healthy meals, with little effort (takes 30-40 minutes to cook most of the stuff and the savings are huge).

    I’m happy to see more and more Americans get into home cooking, there’s nothing better than what you can personally cook. And all these planners and meals help A LOT.

    I love using sauerkraut more and more when it comes to family dinners, my Grandpa used to use it as a staple in our family dinners when I was younger. One big pot in the middle of the table and you pull from it family style until you’re either full or its gone! This recipe looks great, and thank you for your informative explanation on the Eat at Home plan and how it has benefited you. I’ll have to check it out!
