4 Weeks to a More Organized Home {Simplified}: Day 11

Welcome back to the 4 Weeks to a More Organized Home {Simplified} series!

From November 5 to December 7 (skipping the week of Thanksgiving), every weekday morning at 9 a.m. EST, I’ll be posting the day’s assignment and then every evening at 7 p.m. EST, I’ll be posting my progress and pictures, along with a link-up for you to share your progress and pictures, too.

Day 11 Assignment

::Get dressed in something that makes you feel great {there’s something about dressing in clothes that make you feel great that just gives you more energy and zest for life! Get your free copy of SarahMae’s ebook, Frumps to Pumps, if you need more motivation in this.}

::Sit down with a cup of coffee or tea and make a list of 5-10 weekly goals for this week. I’ll share my list and a link-up later today.

::Set the timer for 15 minutes and quickly pick up your house and put things back into order after the weekend. If your house looks like mine, you might need to spend longer than 15 minutes. :)

::Clean out your silverware drawer. Remove all items, vacuum out the crumbs with your vacuum’s attachment, wipe down the drawer with a damp cloth, get rid of anything you don’t need or no longer use, and then put everything you’re keeping back into the drawer in an organized manner.

Take pictures of your accomplishments and blog about them, if you’d like. And then come back here at 7 p.m. EST to share your progress posts or tell us about your accomplishments in a comment.

I’m curious… just the silverware drawer or is that including all the drawers with all the kitchen utensils. If so I may be at this for a few hours to say the least. LOL

  • Connie says:

Can someone explain how the silverware draw gets dirty? I only put CLEAN silverware in there!!!

    • I’m still trying to figure that one out myself. I don’t EAT over the silverware drawer, so why are there always crumbs in there? 🙂

      • Jenny says:

        Agreed Connie!

The only thing I can think of is that crumbs and such drop in there as we open that drawer most frequently when in the kitchen and we’re reaching for something to scoop with, cut with, or serve with and the crumbs act like dust bunnies just constantly attracting more once they find their way in there!

    Good project/assignment!

It’s amazing how filthy the silverware drawer gets. LOL! It does make one wonder “why”?

I think it’s the crumbs and food debris that are “created” when preparing food. If the drawer is even slightly opened, when you wipe your counters down or even accidentally brush crumbs that way, (towards the drawer,) they get into the drawer. At least that the conclusion I’ve come to for my dirty silverware drawer woes. My silverware drawer happens to be located just below the counter where I do most, if not all of my food prep.

At least tackling the the matter on a periodic basis as this series suggests, helps keep things under control. 🙂

  • Haha. I was thinking the same thing the previous posters said! How is it that the silverware drawer gets dirty! Clean silverware are the only things in there.

I completed my list for today! Thank you!

  • Marie says:

I’ve often wondered the same thing, ” Why does the silverware drawer get so dirty if I’m putting clean silverware in it?” And oddly enough, my silverware drawer is on the other side of the kitchen from where I do any cooking and where the other dishes are. So, I can’t figure it out.

  • L. Stoney says:

Cleaning the silverware drawer isn’t my thing, but here I am, I managed to do it calmly and guess what it wasn’t so bad after all. Just surprised to find out there so many things I haven’t used for ages!
