Baking Day!

I woke up with some extra energy today and decided to declare it a Baking Day! At 33 weeks pregnant, I'm keeping it simple today. I am not completely sure how much I'll be able to do before running out of stamina but here's my proposed to-do baking list:

Cranberry Pumpkin Muffins
Cranberry Muffins
Pumpkin Waffles
Mini Meatloaves
Banana Bread

Pizza dough
Homemade bread

I could add about 10 more things to the list but I'm trying to be realistic here! I'll keep you apprised of my progress and share the recipes and pictures as we go throughout the day. We'd love to have you join us, too! I'll post a Mr. Linky up at the end of today so you can share about any baking you do as well.

    I would join you, except I’m at my office all day. Maybe I’ll get some baking in this evening after work. (I need to bake granola, bread, and cookies… not very realistic for one evening after a full day’s work, but anyway.)

    I made green smoothies for my girls this morning. I called them Tinkerbell Smoothies. They loved that! They were jumping up and down about it. What we didn’t drink I poured into Popsicle molds and we’ll eat them this afternoon! It’s pretty hot here today in Georgia.

    Inspired by you I did this last Friday! At 21 1/2 weeks pregnant I managed to make 2 loaves of bread, a batch of blueberry muffins, and a double batch each of pancakes and waffles. My freezer is nicely stocked!

    I failed to feed my starter last night (I got it done this morning), so my bread won’t be ready to bake until tomorrow afternoon. It’s a sourdough starter, but we like it best with whole wheat flour. Other than that I had planned to make tortillas (never done them before, but the store bought are too expensive), breakfast muffins, and pizza crust. I’m doing the pizza crust so the kids can make pizza with the babysitter when we have our date Wed. night. Last week I made the pumpkin chocolate chip muffins you mentioned, but we used banana since I had tons in the freezer. They were good. Just a little too good. Glad you’re feeling good!

    We need to eat our way through my freezer before I can fill it again 🙂 I can’t wait to earn enough swagbucks to get a free wafflemaker and try your recipe! My kids are Eggo freaks, so this will be cheaper and healthier!

    Ooo, we’re having a baking day over here as well. I’m 21 weeks pregnant with baby #3 so I’m attempting to get some freezer meals together today in prep for those weeks after delivery. Hopefully I’ll have enough energy to get through all the baking AND the clean up!

    I am amazed that you can do all that at 33 weeks pregnant – with my second pregnancy I went downhill fast at 32 weeks (it was a steep slope!). I like how Haley says you are crazy – I think 16-32 weeks is the best part of pregnancy. I have no energy before or after that.
    I am not pregnant, but am still trying to get the energy to pull away from the couch and bake some cookies for my dad for his birthday today. Maybe you are my inspiration.
    I am also amazed that you can bake all of that with two helpers. It is fun to have my 2 1/2 year-old help, but it tends to slow down the process so I don’t get as much done. I hope you three have a lot of fun though :0
    I am going to try the green smoothies. We splurged on a Vita Mix before we had kids. We make a ton of smoothies. I have always put in carrots, but I never thought of spinach. I also think the Vita Mix is perfect for making baby food!

    You amaze me. I can’t imagine baking all that in one day even if I was by myself and Not pregnant! Is that literally All you do? Maybe I’m lazy, or maybe some folks are just more gifted in the domestic area. Ah, well. (Don’t worry, Haley, you are not alone!)
    You inspire me with stocking the freezer, though. I’m definitely planning on being more prepared with this second baby! 🙂

    Money Saving Mom here: Don’t worry, I’m no wonder woman. I was so exhausted yesterday that I pretty much did nothing but sleep, rest, and take care of the basics. I just happened to wake up with a lot of energy today so I figured I better capitalize on it! 🙂

    We love smoothies. Our current favorite is a combo of peaches, pineapple and tofu. Very yummy! I’m going to make green smoothies for St. Patricks Day. I figure the novelty of a green drink will be fun that day rather than suspicious. Won’t they be surprised when I tell them they are drinking spinach? Or maybe that will be my little secret! Hee! Hee! (:

    Green Smoothies are the best!! You might even notice lack of energy the days you don’t have a green smoothie! I need to get bac to making them. They are also said to be excellent for keeping breast milk supply optimal, though in some women that could mean over supply!! So be sure to continue after birth for faster healing too! Enjoy those yummy treats you are making, looking forward to my own baking day here soon after the kids feel better!

    I forgot to say, the tortillas are for a dessert. Found the recipe in a magazine (can’t remember which one) and its called Banana Choco Tacos. Sounds yummy!
    About the green smoothies I’m thinking spinach is the secret ingredient. My family uses Barley Life by AIM. Its dried barley leaves so its a green powder. We used to put it in juice and call it “Spidey-Juice”. My super-hero-obsessed children loved it. I think coming up with a fun name means my kids will eat almost anything. By the way, they also make Barley Life Extra that is sweetened with fruit juice so you can just add it to water. It’s kind of expensive, but it lasts us a long time and its a good way to get in the greens and extra vitaminC. That was a good idea to have green drinks for St. Patrick’s Day (along with green eggs-hee hee).

    I was going to ask . . . Can you use “mature” spinach in the green smoothies or is it better with baby spinach, taste-wise? I usually try to avoid baby spinach because I only can get it bagged, which is usually more expensive. Thanks!

    Money Saving Mom here: I’ve only used baby spinach so far since that’s usually what I’m able to get for a good price at our stores. I’m sure you could try it and see how it goes with regular spinach, though.

    Can you use a different type of juice concentrate (like apple or grape) in your green smoothies? My husband gets really bad acid-reflux whenever he drinks orange juice.

    Well…you have me beat. I am 30 weeks pregnant with baby #10. I have been in the garden all day planting potatoes and other things but I mostly let the bigger kids plant while I supervised. (Due to the fact, I am just so tired these days )– I generally cook most things from scratch but just announced a hot dog, tater-tot night due to the fact that I can hardly move. I am either feeling my age or my number of pregnancies…I don’t know which–(I’d like to say number of pregnancies)!!–love your blog, Jana

    Money Saving Mom here: I would, except that I made it up on the spot (as I always do with meat loaf)! 🙂 I just added in an egg, a little milk, some BBQ sauce, some rolled oats, onion, and seasonings.

    you can freeze pizza dough? I’m SOOOO new to all this. I only freeze things I’ve bought at the store. I’m not a very good cook or baker, but we have a financial crunch at the moment and I HAVE to reduce my grocery bills. Would love to know how to do the pizza dough thing…?!??!? Is it a certain recipe, and how long can you freeze it, and how long to unthaw before you use it? HELP! 🙂

    Money Saving Mom here: Yep, I freeze pizza dough. Just use the the recipe I linked to and freeze it as soon as you’ve mixed it up and kneaded it. (I just stick mine in freezer bags.) When you’re ready to use it, just pull it out of the freezer in the morning and it’ll be ready to roll out into pizza dough by mid-afternoon for a very quick and easy and inexpensive dinner.
