Beware if you are purchasing Zaycon salmon. My kids got sick twice after eating it. I didn’t, and I thought it was really good, so I’m not really sure. It happened twice just after eating the salmon, an hour later they threw up. Well, after contacting Zaycon, they told me it must have been my fault (preparing, another dish I served it with) and pretty much told me it was impossible for it to be their fault. I was stuck with ten fillets of salmon that nobody in the house felt comfortable eating. After getting a letter from Zaycon’s salmon supplier stating that pretty much it’s impossible for it to be their fault, I researched the company’s website, Sinbad, a little bit. Upon researching the Wild Caught Alaskan King Salmon that I purchased, I read that it is indeed Alaskan wild caught, but they process the product in China. I did not feel comfortable with eating a product produced there since we have not idea what their standards for food production are and that there have been mix ups between wild-caught and farm raised (now GMO, scary!) in the industry.
By the way, I don’t think that my kids are allergic to fish. We eat shellfish and cod and other fish all of the time. I researched the Internet and found quite a few other people also have this reaction to salmon. Weird. There is also news article about 100 or so people at a convention near San Francisco a couple of years back where they were all served salmon and got ill as well. I don’t want to stir up trouble or anything. I just wished I would have known before I spent over $150 on 25 pounds of salmon. A great price, but still a loss on my end. I thought it was delicious. I guess just buy some at the store and make sure everyone in your family can tolerate it first before committing to a large purchase.

I have done Zaycon chicken breasts twice and won’t again. Our family eats alot of chicken and I found the quality not very good. We purchased the first time and found the chicken to be quite tough, had that rubber/chewiness to it. We gave it another go around since we said it could have just been a bad bunch. Well the second time, we grilled out with my in-laws over and when my father-in-law saw the size of the chicken breasts, he noted how large they were. He indicated that is an old chicken the larger the breasts; thus why the meat was likely not very tender. We ended up having to use up what we had left in crock pot meals because that was the only way we could tolerate it. We are not chicken snobs and buy chicken from Publix and Harris Teeter so it’s not like we only eat a specific type or expensive chicken for that matter. I have heard so many good things but just want to offer my two cents.

Are the breasts offered all of the time? The sight is only showing wings and thighs.
Brigette Shevy says
They are offered periodically – every 3 to 4 months. If you check again in a couple of weeks, they should be offering breasts in your area again.

Do you find zaycon to be better than aldi chicken?
Courtney says
I think it depends on your market. I believe Gretchen has said before that her chicken had very little fat on it. I’m in the Mid-Atlantic area and the chicken I got last summer had a lot of fat on it. I would get it again mostly because buying in bulk makes me actually clean it all up at once and that way it is ready to go, but I’m not sure I saved much money because of the extra fat that I trimmed off.
Brigette Shevy says
Absolutely! NO comparison to Aldi! 🙂
