I went to school with bridgette’s husband eirik! Not that I knew him well as he was a few years ahead of me, but small world is always fun 🙂
Crystal, I would love to learn a couple things from your couponers, to help transfer their concepts over. I’d really love to know their approaches to grocery listing. Do they start with their cupboard, their meal plan, or their coupons? I’d also love, if it’s not too word, to know what states/sales tax you guys are working with. I see these prices and think, wow, that’s not what it costs near me! But I’m not sure if that’s a factor of the area’s cost of living (nw chicago burbs), or if I’m just looking at the wrong stores . Finally, I would LOVE to know their logistics of couponing and shopping with multiple kiddos in tow 🙂
Thanks so much, if any of that is possible! I’m in a slightly different situation as I don’t *have* to coupon and as the mom of three littles my husband would rather I save the time than go extreme on it. I basically pick one local store, and just use every savings method they offer, which probably saves me time and sanity right now. But I still feel we might be able to steward better and would love to find out what tips might transfer over!
If you search in the archives, we have dozens and dozens and dozens of posts on those subjects. I also have a 31 Days to a Better Grocery Budget series that might be a great place to start!
A small world is always fun! 🙂 Different people take different approaches to couponing. We’ve always been on a VERY limited budget, so my goal is to save as much as possible. Obviously, your situation sounds different. 🙂 I work with the sales and coupons first – as well as checking clearance/discount sections, and then come home and plan my menu with what I ended up getting paired with what I already have in my freezer and pantry. My husband hunts, and I buy chicken in bulk from Zaycon, so you won’t see much meat in my grocery purchases. I try to limit to 2 stores a week – Aldi for basic, non-coupon items, and Harris Teeter for coupons and sales. I’ve tried the other stores in our area (South Carolina), and these are the ones that consistently offer the most bang for my buck/time!
It sounds like you are already doing a great job! 🙂
Great job! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
