So I didn’t get to all 12 books I’d hoped to read in January, but I did read 13 books, so that counts for something, right? Even if a number of those were shorter ebooks. 🙂
Here’s the list of what I read in January:
- His Word in my Heart
- You Were Made for a God-Sized Dream
- Life After Art
- Fit For Faith
- Sell Your Book Like Wildfire
- Perfect Fit
- The How and Wow of Habits
- Fred 2.0
- Beyond the To Do List
- The Unexpected Joys of a Tight Grocery Budget
- Live for Him: A Grace-Filled Look at Planning
- The Busy Mom’s Make Ahead Breakfast Cookbook
- A Work-At-Home Mom’s Ultimate Guide
My Three Favorites:
Fred 2.0 — I was very inspired through the pages of this book to look for ways to go the extra mile, do the unexpected, and go out of my way to bless others. While this book does talk a lot about the the book is a sequel to (The Fred Factor) and is written mostly from the perspective of how to live with excellence in your career, I felt there was some great value in it for anyone who wants to live an extraordinary life.
His Word in my Heart — This book really inspired me to make Scripture memory a higher priority. It didn’t just give reasons why you should memorize and meditate on Scripture, it gave very specific ideas on how busy moms and women can find more time to memorize Scripture.
Sell Your Book Like Wildfire — If you are planning to release a book or ebook (or are thinking of doing so someday), I highly recommend this book. It’s packed with helpful advice and ideas for marketing your book, creating conversation around your message, how to get more speaking engagements, and so much more.
read 12 books this month. i don’t read as much (if any) non-fiction, but i have been trying to “up” the literary value of my choices–i minored in lit in college, so i really enjoy those types of books…sometimes they are harder to get through, though! http://kplusnequals.blogspot.com/2014/02/january-goals-update.html
Wondering what you thought of “You’re made for a God-sized dream” – that book has been in my Amazon cart for a while. Wondering if I should hit order on it! 🙂
I only got through 1 book this month but I had a lot of other projects that had to get finished. Glad they are all done. I read Insurgent by Veronica Roth.
One book is great! Way to go!
How/when do you manage to get reading time in?

When do you read all these books with 3 kids??? 🙂

One of my favorites in January was The Fred Factor, so now I’ll have to add Fred 2.0 to my list! Thanks for sharing your favorites – I’ll be sure to add some of them. Here were mine from January: http://behealthybehappywellness.com/2014/01/january-book-reviews/
I only finished two books, but I have several in progress, including Lynn Austin’s newest release. And yours in in my stack for this month! My favorite was The Long Walk by Slavomir Rawicz.
I was just wondering if you were a naturally fast reader or if you took a speed reading class? Also, when do you read? Do you set aside a specific time? I ask because I have so many books I want to read, but I seem to read so slowly. Anyway, I am always looking for pointers. Thank you for your wonderful blog. You do a great job of really helping me focus on what is important in life!
I think I’m probably what people would consider a naturally fast reader. 🙂

I was in Bible quizzing my senior year of high school and I memorized the entire book of Matthew. I did a lot of memorizing in the shower, believe it or not!
I also studied several New Testament books, especially Matthew, Acts, and Romans as a teenager for our Bible Quiz team. It really helped me to hid God’s word in my heart to help in trying times! I am so thankful to our dedicated youth leaders who gave their time to train us for L I F E in Christ.
They truly have earned their rewards in Heaven!
I read three books in January. Grimm: The Icy Touch, Dear Mr. Henshaw and Size 12 is Not Fat. I enjoyed all three! Dear Mr. Henshaw is a children’s book, highly recommend as a read aloud or an independent read for 10/11 year olds. Grimm and Size 12 are both quick fun reads, though I’d recommend Grimm more to those who are already fans of the tv show.
I only finished 3 book in January of the 3 “Epic Grace” was my favorite, such a great reminder of how much our savior loves us, and the kind of love we should show to others.
I was curious how you would like His Word In My Heart…that is one of my favorite books! I read Fire by Night, Making your Home a Haven, Say Goodbye to Survival Mode, and am currently reading Abundant Simplicity. My favorite was Say Goodbye to Survival Mode. We’ve spent the week decluttering, organizing and simplifying, and have a few more weeks of projects planned then I plan on rereading it again to work on the other aspects of getting out of survival mode. Our goal is to welcome baby #2 in May to a thriving family environment…and not us merely getting by. By the way I really like the way you’re blogging about your reading this year…I always get some fantastic reads from your recommendations!
The Fault in Our Stars, Gone Girl, Divergent, Love Does and Nurture Shock. They were all great. Nurture Shock is a parenting book and it was very good. I get all my books from library. Same goes for my kids books. Yard sales are fantastic for book buying on a budget ad well.
Where do you get all of your books? On a budget I have such a hard time keeping stocked with new books to read. I do follow your ereadergirI.com. just can’t get to the library and always have to wait months or even years on a waiting list at paperbackswap.com. Also, where do you keep all those books when you are done with them? Do you pass them on?
Great questions!

I read The Book Thief. I loved it. If you haven’t read it yet call your library today!
Well I had a lofty goal of reading 4 in Jan. but only got two read. But I knew 2 was more likely then 4 but wanted to try and push myself. Time just didn’t allow. But I am really encouraged to be back reading.
I love how you’re challenging yourself — way to go on getting back to reading!
You have been a true inspiration! You’re book just came on Friday so i’m excited to read it. And I hope you will be sharing more about your exciting family news soon! Finding your blog 3+ years ago has truely been life changing!!!
Thanks so much for your kind encouragement! I shared our news here, if you missed it: https://moneysavingmom.com/2014/01/say-goodbye-survival-mode-conference-call-replay.html
Just wondering how you get all of the books you read. Do you get them at the library, buy them, borrow them…? There are a lot of books I would like to read that aren’t at our library (or library network) and it would be kinda pricey to just buy them all.

I just finished Lynn Austin’s new book, Return to Me. It was great, as all her books are. I highly recommend it.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I have read four of Lynn Austin’s books and LOVE them! I got hooked when you had one listed under your free ebook section. I’m a history buff and love historical fiction.
Hands Free Mama was my favorite.
Thanks so much for sharing two of my ebooks with your readers Crystal! Re-reading your book, I’m struck by how much we have in common 🙂 I hope to meet you in person someday.
Yes! That would be SO fun!
Beside your book (which I am learning a lot from), I am reading The Love Dare, a book by David Jeremiah about fear, and I finished Eat that Frog (which I definitely learned some from even if the lessons weren’t what the author was teaching). I also read a handful of fiction, but nothing too meaningful. With my kids, I read Soldier Fritz, and that was a great discussion book as a family.
I’m reading The Safe Child book and Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret, I’d recommend both!
I loved Sarah’s key thought it was heartbreaking. I read 6 books in January but The Fault in our Stars was the best.
My top pick from January was Primal by Mark Batterson! I loved it and have passed it along to my husband.
