I went to Aldi’s in Kentucky yesterday and the same butter pictured was $2.19 a pound!! Time to stock up!
Louise Ortega says
Cumberland Farms (gas stations) has butter for $1.99!!! By far the cheapest I have found. We are in Connecticut.
Esther says
Do you ever use canola oil when baking? I often use half butter, half canola when I’m making cookies, and they turn out fine. And of course with muffins, etc. there’s the old substitute-part-applesauce trick, which I’m sure you already know about!
Lydia @ The Thrifty Frugal Mom says
Oh, those butter prices are making me cringe too! I’m all ears for ways to find it cheaper.
And I saw that you bought Turkey Hill ice cream. Don’t know if you knew this or not but you can call Turkey Hill once every 30 days and request coupons. They are more than happy to send them out. And it only takes about a minute to make the phone call. If you frequently buy ice cream or have sales where you want to buy a bunch to get a better deal (like our local Giant does) this is a great way to help save!
Heather says
You may think I am crazy but do you have a Whole Foods near you? They have the cheapest price around where I live (in NJ) for their 356 brand. It is $2.29. Even cheaper than Aldi.
Gretchen says
Heather, THANK YOU for this suggestion!! We recently had a Whole Foods open up about 20 min away. I haven’t been there yet but now I’m definitely making a trip there to check out their butter prices. 🙂
Heather says
Of course it could be different prices in different states but we tend to have higher prices here in NJ overall. I hope it is the same for you. I love their butter – tastes super yummy. Their 365 brand cream cheese is also the best price around without any coupons.
Erin says
I’ll be checking this out, too. $2.29 would be amazing. I just paid $3.99 at Trader Joe’s since I knew it wasn’t on sale in either of our major chains. I can’t wait til we get a little grocery store competition in my area. Never would have guessed Whole Foods would be so low on staples, though their organic milk is the lowest in my area at $5.79 a gallon.
Vanessa says
The butter prices are crazy here too. I think the days of butter under $2 are over. 🙁 If I see a sale for it I may have to take out a loan and buy 50lbs of butter.
Erin says
Where is/was butter under $2/lb? I’ve lived in three Mid Atlantic states and $2.50 is pretty much the best I’ve seen for years. Occasionally (maybe once a year) the stars align and there’s a sale and coupon that bring it down to $2/lb. Under $2? Not here!
Lana says
My daughter subs vegetable oil in many of her baking recipes. She started doing this when she lived in China and could not afford to buy butter. I know she uses it in her chocolate chip cookies and they taste great.
Gretchen says
This is a great suggestion! I will have to look into this.
Susan says
Tortillas last a LONG time in the fridge. I’m sure your family can easily consume two packages well before they go bad without having to freeze them.
Lori says
Butter is getting so expensive! I remember a post you wrote ,Crystal, about whipping butter to make it go farther. I am going to search your archives right now!
Jennifer says
I wish I had a Kroger’s near me. I need cans of pumpkin and it’s at least $1.99 a can everywhere I look right now 🙁
Kim says
Our Ald’s is cheaper on pumpkin. It should be going on sale soon, aswell as many baking itens. Flour is on sale the next 2 days for 99 cents/ 5 lbs at a store here. I’ m stocking the freezer after I double ziplock it. (Flour can absorb odors.)
Lana says
I got pumpkin at Aldi last week for .89 a can.
Misty Nicole Overstreet-Roberts (The Lady Prefers To Save) says
Winn-Dixie has butter, specifically organic butter brands on manager’s special weekly. Last weekend I was able to pick up four 1lb. packs of butter as well as tubs of Melt, for $1.09 each to freeze!
Gretchen says
I’m jealous! That’s an amazing price! Too bad we don’t live near a Winn-Dixie.
Ruth says
I try to stock up on butter at Save a Lot when they have their butter sale 3 – 4 times a year at $1.99 a pound. I have seen Aldi butter on sale for that price too! But you have to watch for it.
Kacy says
Have you thought about purchasing your butter at SAMs club instead? The usual price for butter here is $3-3.50/lb but they sell 4lbs at SAMs club for $10. If you are not a member but have a friend who is perhaps you could give them the money and they could get it for you next time they go?
Gretchen says
That’s a good idea. I don’t have a membership but know several people who do. Thanks for the suggestion!
