4 Weeks to a More Organized Home: Assignment #12 (update)

4 Weeks to a More Organized Home

I’m so excited about how many of you are joining us for the 4 Weeks to a More Organized Home Challenge! If you missed today’s assignment, you can find it here.

4 Weeks to a More Organized Home
Today’s assignment was to clean the stove top, microwave, and oven. My stove top and microwave were pretty clean. But then I opened up my oven…

…And it was in dire need of some cleaning help!

4 Weeks to a More Organized Home

I scrubbed and scrubbed all sorts of black stuff up off the bottom of the oven and the oven door.

And it looked so much better after all that elbow grease!

I also cleaned out some random cupboards and found 7 more things to get rid of.

How you do on Assignment #12? I’d love to have you share your progress and success with us so we can be inspired. Either post a link to your blog post below or leave a comment with your update.

If there is one thing I hate doing, it’s cleaning out the oven! If I stayed on top of it though it probably wouldn’t be such a mess! Thanks for encouraging us to keep clean up our homes!

I did all right on this assignment- so sparkly. I did try a Pinterest trick to clean the golden sticky crud off of my grates, but it didn’t work. Oh well, they are “seasoned” I guess. :)

Our oven was pretty grimy so it felt good to get it looking cleaner! I also vacuumed the main living areas. As for decluttering, I pitched some old bottles of lotion that I have never liked the smell of (even after holding onto them for 10 years!) and some probably even older nail polish. Yay for more bathroom cabinet space! Again, thanks for the motivation!

I was just thinking I need a bucket with a lid like you’re getting rid of. It’s not in my budget to buy right now. That’s funny.

I just finished reading your book! One of my goals is to declutter the entire house over a year. I’m going much slower than you though. I actually cleaned out the medicine cabinet, bathroom cupboard, & under the bathroom sink today because I had part of the stuff out looking for something, I gave away some shampoo & shaving cream I had.

My oven before picture would have shocked anyone. It was horrible. But, after much work (and finding homemade oven cleaner recipes online), it looks much better than it did. My dyson filters and dry and put back in so my vacuuming will be this morning. I love to hear how you are doing and knowing that another challenge is coming today. :)

I have never cleaned my ‘new’ oven yet. (I won’t tell you how long ago I purchased the oven : ) I’m not sure what product I should use to clean it with. I hope you don’t mind me asking, but what product did you use to clean your oven?

  7. Stephanie says

I put a few pieces of foil under the element in the oven. When (not if) something spills over, all I have to do is wait for the oven to cool and pull out the dirty foil and replace it. I still have to clean the sides and door, but this little foil trick has saved me A LOT of scrubbing!

I really had to scrub my oven. It looks a lot better now but I had a few areas that I just couldn’t get clean without a razor blade to scrape. So it will have to wait for later when I have more time. But it looks a lot better. :)
