    I was just wondering-are these shopping totals that you post here are all you spend on groceries for the week? Because they are always very low! What is your weekly/monthly grocery budget and how many are you feeding (if you don’t mind my asking!)?

      Yes, they are. Although sometimes we’ll have to run to the store halfway through the week if we run out of milk but that doesn’t happen very often. I’m feeding 3 people and I try and stay around $200/month for groceries.

      I downloaded the digital coupon for pears at Fred Meyer. Pears were on sale for 88 cents a pound. the coupon was for 50 cents off of two pound and I picked out 4 pears which came to exactly to 2 pounds

    Bummer about the cucumbers. They’ve been pretty good at our Aldi the last few times. I’m going to have to buy a bag of Dillons unbleached flour the next time I’m in a city with one – what a good price!

      MICROWAVE PICKLES

      3 cups unpeeled sliced cucumbers
      1 cup sliced onion
      1 tbls salt
      1 tsp celery salt or seeds or powder
      ½ tsp tumeric
      1 tsp mustard seed
      1 cup sugar
      ½ cup white vinegar

      Place all ingredients in a glass cake pan (or 2 qt glass measuring cup), cover with plastic wrap, microwave 7 minutes on high. Uncover and stir. Re-cover and let cool. Put in sterilized jar and refrigerate.

      this is a great recipe for pickles. so easy and I wait until cumcumbers are about 50 cent

      Makes about a quart. Needs about 24 hours to be like pickles.

      vinegar is white
      pickles get green after they have set for at least twenty four hours
      thats all I know.  You can watch them turn green after they come out of the microwave.  If they set in fridge for twenty four hours they are green

    I like how you can combine coupons and savingsstar.
    I purchased yogurts for .40 each, used a .40 off 6 and got .40 on my savings star account.

    In the past I haven’t received my SavingStar deposits. So I stopped using them — an error on Smith’s end I have been told. Excellent shopping though! That’s great.

      Same here. The first few months , I had no problems, then I no longer received the credit for things i had purchased, so I stopped bothering.

        all you have to do is contact savings star and let them know that you didnt get the credit and they will double check it and then credit your account. I had to do this twice when I shopped at CVS but after that, it started coming off like it should within a few days.

    I noticed you cook venison. We eat it as well, but I am not very good at cooking it. Could you give me some suggestions on cooking venison?

      When I make ground venison, I mix it with a little bit of baking soda, salt, and water (about 1/2 tsp b.s, 1 tsp salt, 2 T water to 1.5 pounds meat). Mix that and let it sit for 20 minutes before cooking. It works really well to improve the taste and texture, in our opinion.

      I basically just substitute it for beef in any recipe that calls for beef (ground, steaks, cubed, etc). I’ve never done anything special to it when I cook with it. It saves us so much money (and it’s way healthier!) that we rarely eat ground beef.

      I just used a deer roast along with a beef roast yesterday in the crock pot & an envelope of Campbells Slow Cooker Sauces- Tavern Pot Roast.
      It turned out amazingly good- very tender (did the quick cook for 5 hours on high). I don’t like venison, but it stretches our budget and I can tolerate it.
      With the Slow Cooker Sauce, it was actually better than the beef!

      I usually just cut up a bunch of lettuce and chop up whatever veggies we have on hand (cucumbers, tomatoes, green peppers, broccoli, carrots, etc) and put each in a separate bowl. I also shred cheese and cook/cube some chicken and set that out too. Then everyone just puts whatever they want on their salad. It’s nothing fancy and it’s a super easy and quick dinner. :)

    Saving Star prohibits the use of stacking manufacturer’s coupons with their rebates, which come directly from the manufacturer. They are almost always identical offers. If you add the coupon to your participating store card electronically, it will lock out the option to reserve your Saving Star savings; until the ecoupon is used or removed from the loyalty card. I don’t know if the rules are different state to state. This information is from my account.

      I am unaware of that and didn’t see this information anywhere. I almost always combine coupons with savingstar rewards. Most of the time I use paper coupons though.

    Isn’t the checkout 51 deal for the cough drops a one time thing for 50 cents? I read the fine print andante says one per customer.

    Great job! I was lucky enough to load the $25/50 ecoupon and used it to grab some dog food. I shopped the mega event and was excited to get the fiber one fruit snacks. My kids love fruit snacks and now that Kroger no longer doubles coupons, I had stopped purchasing them. My boys need high fiber diets and this is a fun way for them to get a little extra fiber. I usually keep fiber one bars on hand for when they haven’t had all their fiber for the day and now I have some cheap fruit snacks.

    This is great!!! I’ve been following grocerybudget101 and now found your weekly menu plans- good to get some variety! We also try to stay under $200 a month. Does your budget include more than food and eating out? Also, you dont have snacks listed and was wondering how you handle that. Grocerybudget101 recommends nothing prepackaged as it really adds up. Thanks for any advice!! I am undergoing medical treatments and need all the help I can get!
