Office Max: Penny Deals Double for Teachers & Homeschoolers

Anna from Frugal for You emailed in the following about deals she got this week:

I love back-to-school time. Thanks to MoneySavingMom.com, I’ve been able to get awesome deals to stock-up our school supply and also to donate to back-to-school drives.

I wanted to share my haul at Office Max and to remind readers who are teachers and homeschoolers that Office Max doubles the limit for the penny deals, and deals with the in-ad coupon too (just ask beforehand to make sure).

5 Expo Markers, $1 each w/in-ad coupon
6 Schoolio crayons, $0.01 each
6 wood rulers, $0.01 each
6 pencil sharpeners, $0.01 each

Here are 3 more tips I’d like to share:

1. Check your local ad. My area’s penny deals differ from those posted here on MoneySavingMom.com. So, plan accordingly.

2. Whenever possible, get the items that would be free after Max Perks rewards for the $5 purchase minimum.

3. Get the in-ad coupons from Sunday newspaper ads. The store ads usually don’t have those in-ad coupons. And there are no coupon codes that can be entered in the registers.

I’m Anna Thomas and I blog at Frugal For You. In 2009, I googled “frugal mommy blogs” and came across MoneySavingMom.com. I learned better couponing skills that allowed me to be a stay-at-home mom and homeschool our kiddos. I am still in awe of this gift that a frugal lifestyle gave our family!

Have you gotten a great deal thanks to a tip you’ve found here on MoneySavingMom.com? Take a picture of your deal/purchase and write a short post on the deal details and submit it here. If your submission is chosen to be posted, I’ll send you a $25 Amazon gift card! Note: the more creative, unique, and well-written your post, the more chance it will have of being posted.

Do you know what kind of id is required? I teach in a small Christian school and we don’t have teacher id’s.

For the doubled limits? I didn’t have to show any ID at all. I just told them I’m a homeschooler. I live in a state that doesn’t require special certification or ID for homeschoolers though so perhaps that’s why I wasn’t asked.

For the coupon deals, since they are in the online ad, my store honors them even without the physical coupon. They were able to just type it in. It’s definitely worth asking about if you don’t get a Sunday paper!

First of all, thanks Crystal for picking my deal and posting it! I’m so excited.

And it’s great that your store will honor the online ad, Mary Ellen. I hope mine will start doing that soon. Also, I got one of the penny backpack deals online. It was the one that should come with school supplies, only it didn’t. I called corporate and they mailed me a $10 gift card as compensation. So heads up to anyone who ordered the same backpack!
