I see that you read so many books. My husband reads a book a week and it is eating the budget…do you get your books off amazon or another place? Just looking for ways to reduce the budget in the book department without reducing the amount he reads.
Crystal says
The library (you can get almost any book from interlibrary loan!), free ebooks (there are lots and lots of these available every day — I usually download at least 8-10 per week of the ones that really interest me), PaperBackSwap, borrowing books from friends, and occasionally getting books for a few dollars used from Barnes & Noble’s Marketplace or used from Amazon.com if I can’t get them through my other sources. (Amazon has a fantastic trade-in program that you can sell your used books and get Amazon credit for them). I also get a few books each month for free from publishers who are hoping I’ll like them and blog about them — which I occasionally do! 🙂
All in all, I spend very little out-of-pocket to feed my reading habit. 🙂

Can you tell us about how PX90 is coming along? I too, am working towards trying to live a fit and healthy lifestyle. I was thinking about asking my husband to get it for me for Christmas, but would like to hear how it is going from personal experience.
Crystal says
I actually stopped it and just went back to running… I loved it when I did it twice before, but running just seems to be working better for my schedule right now.

I haven’t been able to reach a goal in who knows how long. This past summer I was suppose to build a screen around my back porch and gut my shed and basically rebuild it, I’m suppose to till up my yard this year see if I can flatten and reseed it but I’m thinking that’s hitting the back burner too work has me about ready to lose my mind I work 20 hrs a week and was informed yesterday I will be helping head up a multi-million dollar project while having several deadlines moved up on time schedule by 2 months! I love how you’re actually able to cross things off your goal lists and can actually have books on your list I hope one day to be to that point in my life but right now I’d settle to have all my socks matched! 🙂

Crystal – thanks for sharing your goals. What a neat idea!
What did you think of the book “7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess”? It sounds like a neat idea!
As a habit/logic driven person I often like structural gimmicks to change my mindset or help me do something different.
Ben Casnocha wrote an interesting post a while back on 50 Ways To Expose Yourself To Randomness which I think you might enjoy:

Also, congrats on finishing your proposal. Well done!

I was hoping to have a garage sale with my parents this year but we didn’t get to it. I hope your garage sale goes well. I just cleaned out my sons dresser drawers and ended up with lots of clothes he has out grown. So I will be giving them to our neighbors son as they are just the right size for him. I am always so happy when others share kids clothes with us, so we like to pass ours along too.

Thank you so much for sharing your goals each week, I especially love following what you’re currently reading. I’ve always been a big reader but found myself struggling to find time for books. I purposely set a goal of reading one book each month this year, I got off track for a few months but during the summer really started making the time to read. I just finished my 17th book today and am hoping to make it to at least 24 by the end of the year!

Wow – you did well this week. I’ve shared my goals for the month – October should be a fun one!

I still don’t know how you get so much reading done- I have trouble getting one book done in a week! 🙂

So happy to see your goals post! I was waiting for it yesterday:) I’m so much more productive when I think in terms of weekly goals.

Do I see some fiction in that stack of books? I’m always interested to here about good, *clean* fiction…seems so hard to come by these days! I’d be interested in what you think of these after you read them!
Crystal says
I’ve been reading (and loving!) lots of fiction recently, thanks to my friend Tricia Goyer who writes fiction! 🙂 You can see the fiction I’ve read this year so far here:

I know that posting my goals here has kept me so much more accountable the last couple of weeks! I have been getting so much more accomplished and at the end of the day I don’t have to look back and wonder what I did all day!
Crystal says
Yay! Go you!
Mackenzie says
I did pretty well on my goals for September. Although I tried for 4 new recipes to make, I did make 3 and that counts for something, right? 🙂
I’m glad that you always make exercise a priority Crystal. I need to do that!
Wendy says
Crystal, I always notice you have “write love note to Jesse” on the list. Is this a weekly love letter or just a short (1 sentence type) note. I’m just curious because how do you come up with something new to say each week?
Crystal says
I’ve found that when you look for things to be thankful for, you start seeing more things than you ever have time to write about! 🙂 This week’s note was a long text thanking him for specific qualities I’ve appreciated in him recently. Last week’s note, was a handwritten, sappy love note that I handed to him. I try to vary it each week and sometimes make it deep, sometimes make it fun and light-hearted.
Considering I blog multiple times each day, I guess you could say I don’t have trouble with running out of things to write about. My problem is finding the time to write everything I want to write! 😉
Gina says
Neat! I can’t wait to learn more about your new book!
Reading: I have 5 books started right now. I always end up with so many books started at one time. I’m steadily plugging along toward my goal. It looks like I’m going to make it. My goal for the year is 15. 🙂
Good luck with your garage sale!
Crystal says
I know the problem of starting too many books! I try to limit myself to having only 4 going at once, but I’ve not been doing so well recently. Sigh. So many good books… and never enough time for them all! 🙂
Congratulations on almost making your reading goal; I’m proud of you!
Katie says
It was hard to limit my goal list to just 10 this week but I think I’ll be able to accomplish a lot–we’ll see!
Gina says
I have a hard time keeping my lists short, too. :/
