I made a quick run to Dillon’s tonight with Kathrynne to take advantage of the Mega 10 event. Here’s what we bought:

10 cans of Hunt’s tomatoes — $0.49 each after Mega 10 discount, used 2 $0.40/2 coupons (doubled), used 2 $0.60/3 coupons (“doubled” to $1 0ff) = averaged out to $0.13 per can after coupons

6 half gallons of Blue Diamond Almond Milk — $1.99 each after Mega 10 discount, used 6 $0.55/1 blinkie coupons (“doubled” to $1 off) = $0.99 per half gallon after coupons. (There are also $1/2 coupons available here.)

4 boxes of Mom’s Best Cereal — $0.99 each after Mega 10 discount, used 2 $1/2 Mom’s Best coupons = $0.49 per box after coupons

Total with tax: $10.40

got them!!

Catherine January 31, 2012 at 5:22 am

Math is off re milk – just FYI

Crystal January 31, 2012 at 7:37 am

Thanks–just fixed that! It should be $1.99 per half gallon, not $0.99 as I’d mistyped!

Laura January 31, 2012 at 8:15 am

That’s a lot of milk. Do you plan on freezing some of it?

Crystal January 31, 2012 at 8:25 am

Yes, though we’ll see if we need to. Most of them didn’t expire for 3 1/2 weeks.

Kate January 31, 2012 at 8:33 am

Do you have two refrigerators, or are you just better at economizing space than I am? ;-)

Crystal January 31, 2012 at 8:43 am

I just have one refrigerator, but it’s fairly large–I was able to fit three of the half-gallons in the side door and three on the top shelf.

Frugal Jen | Frugal, Freebies and Deals January 31, 2012 at 10:03 am

My store is a Ralphs (same as Dillons) so I don know if the deal is the same but they are also suppose to have the shelf stable kind on sale.

Kelly January 31, 2012 at 8:16 am

The Kroger/Dillon’s deals have lost their thrill for me. No more double/triple coupons in Texas. My son would love that much almond milk in our house. He’s addicted.

Crystal January 31, 2012 at 8:25 am

:( That is so sad. Come move to Kansas! :)

Rachel January 31, 2012 at 12:17 pm

I wish we had a Dillons/Kroger around here as well…. We drink only almond/soy/coconut milk here in our house and it can get expensive at times.

Bonnie January 31, 2012 at 8:18 am

Great deals! Way to go, mom!

Brandy January 31, 2012 at 8:22 am

I love Dillons Mega Events I just posted about my Mega Event score in my shopping trips breakdown!

I took advantage of the same sale at my local Kroger last week and this week. I bought about 20 half gallons of Almond Milk. I used both the $1.00/2 and $0.55/1 (doubled) for all of them. I saved over $40! You can’t beat that price, even on cow’s milk. My friend gives me their Almond Milk coupons (they buy 8 newspapers). When I told them how much I saved, they got a big smile.

Kelli @ Holistic Sisters January 31, 2012 at 8:37 am

Wow! I love this deal! Wish I could get it here!

MaryEllen@TheDealScoop January 31, 2012 at 9:10 am

Look at all that almond milk! Love that stuff!

Karla January 31, 2012 at 9:14 am

I already hit up that sale once this week, however it usually runs 2 weeks so I will be able to do it again! My best score was 4 boxes of Cool Touch Kleenex that they payed me a penny a piece to take!!

Crystal January 31, 2012 at 9:14 am

Woot!

Ann January 31, 2012 at 9:36 am

How do you get so many copies of each coupon when you do deals like this?

Crystal January 31, 2012 at 9:46 am

I picked up extras when I found the blinkies hoping I’d find a deal soon–and I’m so glad I did! The others were printed from one computer (you can usually print two of each coupon per computer.)

Here’s some other ideas of how to get multiple coupons:

liz January 31, 2012 at 9:45 am

Would love to know if you end up freezing some of the milk. I froze almond milk once and it turned out terrible, but would love it if it works for someone else and I can try it again. Maybe I didn’t thaw it out correctly??

lyss January 31, 2012 at 11:19 am

Totally jealous….wish I had a Dillons!

amber January 31, 2012 at 1:42 pm

I also went to kroger yesterday. I don’t think mine carries the almond milk, I could not find it. I was able to get some shrimp buy one get one free. They also had turkey hill ice cream on sale plus coupon it was $1.99.

Cris January 31, 2012 at 8:05 pm

The almond milk is usually next to the fridge with the organic/ natural stuff, in my store by the produce section.

Melissa January 31, 2012 at 1:46 pm

I have been taking advantage of this almond milk deal as well,(this is the second time I have seen it run) and froze some last time around, and it split open the container, so make sure you take some off the top before freezing! My family won’t drink it (they only want rice milk), but I use it for baking.

Meg January 31, 2012 at 3:36 pm

I wish people didn’t clear the shelves of this milk when Kroger’s runs this sale. I’d rather it never be on sale and pay full price then have to drive all around to find the only kind of “milk” my kids can/will drink. When it’s a dietary need for some but just a “cheap deal” for others, I get a bit frustrated :-(

Martha Artyomenko February 4, 2012 at 6:25 pm

I know the feeling! I try when there is a great deal to think of others! We live in a smaller town and they don’t refill the shelves as often as some stores, so when the shelves are empty, they may be empty for a couple of days.

Tonya January 31, 2012 at 11:07 pm

Oh, how I wish I could get my Almond milk that cheap!! Our Kroger no longer doubles. I think ours was also only on sale for $2.50 with the Mega 10. :-(

Theresa February 1, 2012 at 12:43 am

I was excited to see Almond Breeze come out with that combo almond/coconut milk. What do you think of it? I think it has some coconut flavor, which isn’t bad but we usually buy So Delicious coconut milk, which does not have a coconut flavor.

amanda February 1, 2012 at 9:58 am

I went to the blue diamond website and got $1.00 of 1 coupons, then there were some peelies for $1.00 off 1 too, my Owens (Kroger) had the blinkies too, but doesn’t double anything over $.50.

AnnaLisa February 1, 2012 at 10:17 am

ok – what are blinkies?

Penny T. February 1, 2012 at 6:52 pm

Blinkies are the little machines you see near displays or on shelves in the grocery stores that “blink” and have coupons in them.

Mallory C February 1, 2012 at 10:27 am

This may be a silly question but can you use almond milk for baking in place of cow’s milk? Or in place of cow’s milk for anything else

phaedra February 1, 2012 at 10:36 am

Yes…the founder of Diet Solution does not use cow milk for anything…she makes her own almond and coconut milk…she uses raw almonds.

Crystal February 1, 2012 at 10:52 am

We do and haven’t had an issue with it.

phaedra February 1, 2012 at 10:34 am

I follow clean eating and Diet Solution…I’ve read It’s fairly easy and more healthy to may your own coconut and almond milk…I think clean eating does soy diet solution does not. I haven’t tried almond milk because I hear it can be a challenge to find a healthy version…no added sugar or chemicals.

Carolynn @ mylittlebitoflife.com February 1, 2012 at 11:10 am

Thanks for all the comments, I just picked up some last night and was wondering if it could be frozen. I tried it with my Carnation and I liked it at first, but it doesn’t dissolve the powder like regular milk does. Next time, I’ll try just a little almond milk. My son seems to not mind it! :)

Penny T. February 1, 2012 at 6:49 pm

I just went on the Blue Diamond website to see if they offered an organic version… they do not. There’s good info. there. They do not recommend storing almond milk on refrigerator doors and they do not recommend freezing it. I’d feel better if they had an organic version but they do mention that they will eventually have a version that does not contain soy so that elimination may make me consider buying that version in the future.

Emmie February 2, 2012 at 3:15 am

Your post make me wish there was a Dillion’s here! Can you send the double coupons down this way lol. Nice run as always smashing good job. Thanks for all the updates to help everyone save money!

Martha Artyomenko February 4, 2012 at 6:25 pm

Those are some good deals! Smiths is the same type of store, but we do not have double coupons!

lisa February 5, 2012 at 11:16 am

I am kicking myself after seeing you found MOM’s coupons. I bought some at the kroger event for .99 and sad that I could have saved an extra dollar and bought some more of this yummy stuff!

Heather Smith February 6, 2012 at 4:18 pm

Great job Crystal! There are no stores that do double coupons in Alaska :-( Oh well, the Lord always makes a way for us to save money anyway. An idea for your almond/coconut/rice milk if you don’t get around to consuming it in time is to freeze it in ice cube trays and use for smoothies. It might not taste good thawed, but it’s great in smoothies. Our coconut milk runs over $4 a half gallon. Whenever I can find it on clearance, I buy it, freeze in ice cube trays and then store in ziploc bags. We throw that in with our fruit for yummy smoothies. :-)
