What a great article, recipe(s) and idea! I’ve had to really implement a STRICT budget for cooking (kid in college, car repairs, higher insurance costs, etc, etc, etc,) and this is just the thing for my DH and myself now that we’re empty-nesters. I plan to do this with three chicken breasts, and appropriate reductions in the recipes for two or three servings!

I just bought these at Sams because they were marked down. Now I have a way to stretch them further. Thanks for the great post.

How is it I have never thought to boil the bones and get the rest of the chicken off before? I usually cut off the breast and throw the rest away. Which is why I prefer to buy boneless, skinless when it goes on sale. Now I’ll start buying split more often. Didn’t realize how much meat I was throwing away.

I like to put my chicken/turkey bones in the slow cooker with water, herbs (thyme, celery seed) & veg (onions, carrots, celery, garlic). IT cooks all day, has a fantastic flavor & is much easier for me than watching a pot. Plus, whatever meat is left just falls off the bone.

Great idea! I am such a slow cooker failure, but that’s definitely a smart way to deal with the bones. :)

Great post! I buy boneless, skinless chicken breasts when they go on sale for $1.89, but this is an even better idea!! I’ll have to start buying more bone-in chicken instead!!!
