Great post! Thank you!
What a great article, recipe(s) and idea! I’ve had to really implement a STRICT budget for cooking (kid in college, car repairs, higher insurance costs, etc, etc, etc,) and this is just the thing for my DH and myself now that we’re empty-nesters. I plan to do this with three chicken breasts, and appropriate reductions in the recipes for two or three servings!
I just bought these at Sams because they were marked down. Now I have a way to stretch them further. Thanks for the great post.
How is it I have never thought to boil the bones and get the rest of the chicken off before? I usually cut off the breast and throw the rest away. Which is why I prefer to buy boneless, skinless when it goes on sale. Now I’ll start buying split more often. Didn’t realize how much meat I was throwing away.
I like to put my chicken/turkey bones in the slow cooker with water, herbs (thyme, celery seed) & veg (onions, carrots, celery, garlic). IT cooks all day, has a fantastic flavor & is much easier for me than watching a pot. Plus, whatever meat is left just falls off the bone.
Great idea! I am such a slow cooker failure, but that’s definitely a smart way to deal with the bones.
Thanks so much! I love these frugal chicken cooking ideas! You are the best!
Great post! I buy boneless, skinless chicken breasts when they go on sale for $1.89, but this is an even better idea!! I’ll have to start buying more bone-in chicken instead!!!
Only bnls sknls for me!…..only cause @ our local mom & POP grocer regular price is 1.89# this week it’s on sale for 1.39! We are blessed!
That’s a fantastic price, Mary… good for you! Even more wonderful know you’re supporting a local mom & pop business.
Wonderful post! It is always fun coming up with more ways to make the budget stretch while feeding a family and chicken is one we can often get on sale. Thanks for sharing!!! =)
