{I saw the above quote online today and it cracked me up! I’m all about striving for greatness! ;)}
So, y’all, I flaked out on the Homemaking Challenge today. And I’m not going to apologize for it.
I woke up feeling wiped out today. I think that getting out yesterday was just too much for me. So after my Morning Motivation Periscope show, I went back to bed. And I mostly stayed in bed the rest of the day.
I’m usually someone who pushes hard, sometimes too hard. But the past two weeks have really challenged me to do a better job of giving myself grace and listening to my body.
Today, my body was begging for rest and quiet and multiple naps. So that’s what I gave it.
I hope to be feeling energetic enough to tackle my clothes tomorrow. But for now, I’d headed to bed for more sleep. Because I think that’s one of the best things I can do for myself right now.
Thanks for your patience with me — and for so many of you who are gently encouraging me to continue taking it easy and giving myself grace. I am listening to you! 🙂
P.S. If you need a laugh tonight, be sure to read this post over on Instagram.

rest after surgery? always necessary…much more than we realize. for too long i thought “when mom takes care of herself, she’s being selfish and unproductive” – but as long as we’re not talking silly indulgence, that’s not true. after being a mom for over 23 years, i now understand that “when mom takes care of herself…..everybody wins.”

Life happens. I am just getting started on the challenge today in my kitchen 🙂 Migraines took me out, but now I am feeling GREAT!!! Yay for kitchen cleaning! Thanks for this challenge!

Totally understand. I’m having a NO ENERGY day today, so I’m trying to give myself grace . . .

{Hugs!} Just give yourself grace today! {And if you’re on Periscope, watch my show from this morning, if you have a chance. I think it will encourage you!}

Proud of you!! I think that’s a really humble response. And the more time you give your body to recover, the sooner you will be back to yourself. Plus, you are setting a great example!

I have to say I was amazed when I saw you were doing this challenge just after surgery. Surgery WIPES YOU OUT! Take a much needed break and enjoy it!

I told my husband I HAD to do something this week because I was going to go stir-crazy from all the resting! 🙂 And he said I could do this challenge as long as I paced myself, kept it simple, and skipped any day I didn’t feel like doing it. He always has such wise advice for me!

I totally get being stir crazy-been there done that! You want to push yourself but have to allow yourself a little grace too You are right-husbands are great for wisdom!

I was right there with you in needing to rest. I started organizing my office after a series of conference calls and in the process of putting together a new shelf sliced my finger open and so a nap was in order. Sometimes housework can hurt, who knew? 🙂

Take your time and get better, Crystal. The work will be there when you feel like doing it!
God bless, Kathy in Illiois

Why is it so hard to cut ourselves some slack? It’s a skill that has to be learned. You made the smart choice to listen to your body. After my surgery a few years back, I had to learn that same lesson. Hope you’re on the mend! By the way, fantastic quote!

Yay! Good for you! You had major surgery! And it was traumatizing to have a cervical cancer scare given Jesse’s loss of his mother. Please, please, please take all the time you need to care for your (and your family’s) physical and emotional health. This five day challenge can take five weeks. 🙂 I’ve never had major surgery but I am guessing it’s pretty normal for your energy level to ebb and flow for quite some time.

Crystal, please take time to rest. Your body is good at telling you what it needs. Your husband and kids need you to take care of yourself, and we do too. Love and prayers to you! ?

That quote is hilarious!!
I’m glad you took time to rest today. It’s amazing how fatigue and tiredness can catch up with us all of a sudden. I hope you feel better soon.

Glad you skipped today! I wanted to join in on day 1 and 2 but couldn’t. I ended up joining in today and tackled my kitchen junk drawer and our entry coat closet!!! Whoo hoo! Thanks for the motivation! Also, I went through all the clothes in my house last week! So I felt like today was a “freebie” for me and allowed me to work through the first 2 challenges!

I am so proud of your for listening to your body and doing what’s best for you! That is the most important thing and another awesome example of good stewardship!
As much as I want to follow along right in step with the challenge it isn’t possible right now – I’ve got 3 littles under the age of 5 and my husband is halfway across the world overseeing our ministry while we work on the next step of his US visa (a whole different story). But this challenge still has motivated me to take big steps in getting control over my house again. I have been working hard, and though my house isn’t where I want it yet, I am so much closer than I was a few days ago. Thanks so much for inspiring me in my life journey!

I’m thankful you took the time to listen to your body. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to do things for the family and for improvement but the best thing you could ever do for you or your family is to be healthy for another day.

I am so glad you took the break! I could not believe that picture of you up on the counter, what not even a week after your surgery!!!?????
Rest as long as you need to, I am glad to see you doing it!

So glad you listened to your body today! Besides, you were setting a high standard for the rest of us who may have similar surgery one day;)
