I could not find a Radio Shack in my area that had any of the Nooks left ~ I was able to print the page off of the Radio Shack website and take it to Wal-Mart and they honored the price match.
Sold out all over the Boston area, apparently, even though some stores show it in stock according to the website. Clerk at the store said they’re being discontinued.
Would you be able to post a link to the page you copied and took into the store for a price match? I know walmart and best buy will price match but I can’t find a physical copy of the sale price. Thank you in advance!
Yesterday we tackled our kids’ room. We cleaned out two boxes of too-small clothes, (those went to the attic, though, not all the way out the door), plus added another several clothing items and a couple of toys to the donation bin.
Today I cleaned out our hall closet and got rid of a giant load of plastic bags, FOUND a stash of three magic erasers, and added another 5 items of clothing to the donation bin.
Amazon has them for around $80, so this is a good deal! However, there was some news announced today that the Nook enterprise is being bought and discontinued – which is probably why the price is so good. It’s still a great price on a digital e-reader, but be aware that this shouldn’t be thought of as a long-term investment.
Does that mean you wouldn’t be able to buy the digital books to read on the Nook, then?

In short, Microsoft has offered Barnes & Noble $1 billion for the rights to the “Nook properties”, which includes the books and such. If Barnes & Noble takes the deal (which they’re expected to), Microsoft plans to stop manufacturing Nook tablets by the end of next year.
The news makes it sound like they’re planning to still publish books in a format which would be readable by current Nook tablets, but that in the future they’re hoping to move toward “third-party devices” (i.e. either Microsoft is planning a new tablet launch, or they’re planning to drop the tablet market altogether and just make money on the lucrative textbook market).
Either way, it means that if this goes through, the Nook will become obsolete by the end of next year. You can still use an old device, of course, but you’ll probably have issues within a year or so of that because they won’t be releasing updates, you won’t be able to get the right software to read new books, etc. Of course, lots of tech goes obsolete within a two-year time frame anyway, so that may not be a deal-breaker – but it’s good to keep in mind.
Thanks so much for the info, Wendy! 🙂
Man I hope thats not true! I bought my nook color a year ago and just love it. No wonder the nook simple is only $20….If that happens them its baack to regular ole books for me!
