Welcome to my weekly Sunday post where we take a break from money-related posts and I share about what I’m loving right now and give you a little peek into our life from the past week.
What I’m Loving
The kids were SO excited about Valentine’s Day and spent hours the week before making Valentine’s for their friends, classmates, and teachers. We gave them a budget, took them to Dollar Tree, and then they did all of the work themselves (with a little oversight from us!)
I love how excited they get about blessing others and doing things for others. And I also love that they are all at the age when they can get really stoked about this kind of stuff together. I know that this won’t last forever and I sort of want to freeze time.
I think they were also pretty excited about the fact that they got some candy from friends, too… candy is sort of a rare treat around here so I’m not sure whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing that they are so excited about the prospect of candy!! 😉
And I just had to share this picture. I totally staged it, but it’s such an accurate representation of our life right now. There is never a dull moment. Ever.
We went shoe shopping on Thursday because Kathrynne (12) desperately needed tennis shoes as her feet seemed to grow one size in a week and she was literally about to burst through her current tennis shoes.
(She has one pair of tennis shoes and pretty much only wears them every single day unless she’s going to a wedding. No joke.)
Kaitlynn (9) was all, “Why are we shopping for tennis shoes?? Can we please look at more fun shoes? Oh, look at these! And these! And these!” And then, of course, she was trying to find a way to convince me that she surely needed some new shoes.
(This girl has five times as many shoes as Kathrynne and Silas combined and would buy a new pair of shoes every day if she had the money! Again, no joke.)
Finally, Silas (7) is all, “Are we done yet?” And then was trying to bump into Kaitlynn while she was wearing these heels around so that she would fall over.
Yup. These are my three. They couldn’t be any more different, but they bring so much life, joy, laughter, and color into our lives! And today also solidified for me why I prefer to shop for shoes from Amazon!
What I’m Celebrating
Kaitlynn is landing her axel now!!! This is a HUGE figure skating accomplishment and we’re SO proud of this girl! (Watch the video here. She’s improved quite a bit even since this video was taken!)
Now, she’s starting to work on perfecting all her doubles (double toe loop, double salchow, double loop, double flip, double lutz) and then it’s on to the double axel!
We are having trouble getting her off the ice these days. All she seems to want to do is practice, practice, practice. And then eat, sleep, go to school, and get back on the ice again!
I’m also celebrating the fact that I got to go on four different dates this week — once with Kathrynne, once with Jesse, once with a friend, and once on a double-date with some friends of ours to try our first ever Escape Room experience.
What I’m Reading
This past week, I only finished one book: Answers to Prayer. The week was full and there wasn’t as much time for reading as there usually is. Although I did read quite a bit from The Road Back to You and No More Faking Fine but both were books I didn’t want to speed through, but wanted to slowly absorb and think about.
This week, I’m reading: Thou Givest, They Gather (an old Christian reprint), No More Faking Fine (a spiritually encouraging book), Gathering Blue (a story-driven book), and Chasing Slow (a book on life improvement).
I’m hoping to finish No More Faking Fine, Gathering Blue, and Chasing Slow this week. I’ll let you know how that goes next week! {See my Reading Goals for 2017. Also, see the 21 books I’ve read so far in 2017 here.}
What I Learned This Week
Public Service Announcement: don’t hold an avocado in your hand while trying to cut the pit out.
I was in the middle of a conversation with a friend, not really paying attention to what I was doing, and in a split second, I had jabbed the knife through the avocado and stabbed my finger.
It was such a strong stab that I was afraid I the knife had gone all the way through my finger. But nope, just a deep cut. I missed the tendon and blood vessels, so it didn’t bleed much and all it needed was a trip to urgent care.
They were able to glue it instead of give me stitches — yay! In all honesty, my finger never really hurt… and the only thing that hurt at all was my arm where they gave me a tetanus shot (since I was using a knife and haven’t had a tetanus shot since I was a kid).
Oh, and I still ate my salad I was making — before I went to urgent care. Hey, I was hungry and there’s no point in wasting a good avocado!! 😉
(It reminds me of the time I made Jesse stop for an Arby’s sandwich while I was having major contractions and writhing in pain bent over the front seat of the car while he was driving me to the birth center to deliver Silas. I knew I needed to eat to have strength to deliver Silas. Which I did — about an hour later. What can I say? Food is fuel and you gotta fuel your body — even if you are in labor or you’ve just stabbed your finger!!)
What I’m Laughing About
I did a video on Friday making Whole-Wheat Chocolate Chip Pancakes live. If you follow me on Facebook, you know that I often do Facebook Live videos.
Facebook mirrors the video image, so if you have your phone screen turned toward you for the video (letting you see what the video/image looks like), everything is flipped — meaning if you’re holding up a bag of flour that says “Whole-Wheat Flour” on it, it’s going to be backwards, etc.
This can be quite distracting when you’re doing a video that’s a recipe where you’re holding up different bags/boxes/containers of ingredients.
So I got the “brilliant” idea to try turning my camera around so that the screen wasn’t facing me but that the video wouldn’t be a mirror image. I set everything up and thought it would work well.
Ahem. I clearly think I’m much shorter than I am, because when I filmed the Facebook Live video, my head was completely cut off the entire time!!!
And then I tried to turn the camera around halfway through and things just went from bad to worse.
If you need to laugh today, go fast-forward through the video so you can see just how awful it was. And also, be encouraged: bloggers and vloggers who have been at this thing for years and years and years still have plenty of “Well that experiment certainly didn’t work!” moments.
I’ve learned that the best thing I can do is laugh at myself and invite others to laugh along with me!
What I’m Pondering
I have fallen down into the Enneagram rabbit hole… thanks to a few friends from my Discipleship Group! It’s fascinating and eye-opening and a little scary all at once.
Jesse and I spent hours last week reading about each type and it produced some incredible insights into each of our hearts and lives. It also gave us so much more clarity for ourselves and each other.
For those of you who are into the Enneagram, I’m an 8 and he’s a 5. Even without understanding the Enneagram, I look back and realize how I have fought against my eight-ness for a long time because I wanted to be a 2 or something warm and fuzzy like that. But nope, I’m an 8 through and through.
And now I want to embrace it and own it and become the healthiest version of an 8 that I can be. Because that’s how God made me and how He can use me best.
When we realized that Jesse is a 5 and have studied more about it, it’s really helping me to better understand how he processes things, what his needs are, and what his amazing strengths are.
What number are you? I’d love to know! Oh and I took the test online and it gave me the wrong result. I found this book and reading things online to be a lot more accurate and clarifying than the online quizzes. But maybe that’s just me!
(Those of you who don’t know what the Enneagram is are probably shaking your head at reading this and wondering what sort of crazy talk this is! Well, do yourself a favor. Go read up on the Enneagram, get this book, and maybe it will rock your world in profound and good ways like it has ours! You’re welcome!! ;))

Want to win this stack of books?
I thought it would be fun for me to do a giveaway here every once in awhile on Sundays — giving away some of our our products, items I’ve been sent two of, books I’ve already read and want to pass on, or other items I have that we no longer need and would like to pass onto a great home!
Today’s stack includes one of my books, one of my Gratitude journals, a blank journal, a few books I’ve recently read and would love to pass onto someone else, plus a book we enjoyed as a family!
To win this stack this week, leave a comment letting us know something that is making you laugh (a funny story, a movie, a YouTube video, a funny picture, something you have done or your kids did, etc.).
I’ll choose one winner from all of the comments and will email that winner personally + post the winner next week on my Peek Into My Life This Week Post.
Congratulations to Kim (kim_redmon13@) who was the winner of last week’s stack of books giveaway. Kim, you should have received an email from me asking for your mailing address!

SO…I have 5 squirrels (2 grey, 3 red) that come to my house because I hand them peanuts in the shells. The interaction is quite fun for me and I have done this in each house that I’ve lived in. So yesterday I only had 2 visitors in the morning and I guess the other three slept in. I went running out to my car to get in and take off for the appointment that I had not looking at my surrounding area but just to get to the garage from the back door. I get in and back up slowly to see out of the corner of my eye one of the red squirrels perched up on his hind legs and his arms tucked in – but it was the look on her face as I started to pass her in the driveway. The look was priceless and I swear the corners of her mouth were in a frown shape. So as she was following me creeping out of the driveway I could almost hear her say “where are you going, I missed the handout this morning!!!!!” So I stopped the car and rolled down my window. I just could not leave and know that look was on her face. I said “Missy, I am going to get my haircut and I should be back in an hour so cut me some slack please.” and I drove away with a quick glance in the mirror – yep she was still sitting there watching my car drive away. Poor fur-baby!

Oh goodness! So many things make me laugh… The top one this week is that our son, 8, has taught our 7 month old kitten to play fetch. Our son throws the ball down our hallway, our kitten zooms down after the ball then proudly carries the ball back to us and drops it at our feet. It is just so silly!

Looks like a great stack of books! Thanks for a chance at winning them 😉
My 4 year old makes me laugh a lot these days. He didn’t want to go to bed last night because he wasn’t tired. At 5am he came bounding down the steps and loudly proclaimed, “see! I said I wasn’t tired!!” -_- 😀

My kids are always doing funny things, but what made me laugh yesterday was when my son was making funny faces at my two yr old nephew, and my nephew was trying to copy everything my son was doing. They have been doing this cute interaction ever since my nephew was old enough to be aware of what others were doing. But as he gets older he’s been trying to follow my son in everything, he tries copying my daughter’s silly dance moves too. It makes me laugh so hard, I love it, my two are hilarious and love their cousins to pieces. It would be cool to win the books too.

My husband has made me laugh a lot this week. He likes to make up songs about our life and they just crack me up. And then today, he came home from a hard day at work and started frolicking in the yard with our 22-month old daughter trying to help her catch bubbles. I love him so much. No reservations.

2 of my girls have been sick for days. Yesterday, we finally got outside. I put my 4 year old in the sandbox ( I realize that sounds like an odd way to put it, but she’s wheelchair bound). She started digging and said, “It’s a gwowious (glorious) day in the sandbox!” It was so cute!

I thought I’d leave a great story my son wrote me last week.
This morning, our two youngest daughters came into our room in the middle of a heated argument. Shaelyn said it was snowing, Zoe said it wasn’t. No one likes to be told they are wrong so emotions had escalated.
Erin and I looked out our window… nope no snow. Not even snow-bearing clouds. And yet, Shaelyn was adamant. She had seen snow.
Erin suggested that maybe Shaelyn had seen the wind blowing some old snow off the roof. In my head, I just chuckled – certain that the four year old’s eyes were just playing tricks on her. We calmed both girls down and moved on.
Ten minutes later, walking outside to leave for work, I looked at my car and noticed a few tiny flakes of fresh snow. Then I looked up. In the sky, moving away from our house, was a large cloud that looked like it could easily drop a little snow.
We couldn’t see that cloud from our bedroom window. We couldn’t see any snowflakes. Due to our limited perspective, we were “certain” Shaelyn was wrong. Except she wasn’t.
As we debate with others regarding public policy and current events, how “certain” are we that we are right? Instead of staring out our window, shouting about how others are so obviously wrong (“I mean look! How can you *not* see this?!?”), are we humble enough to walk over to their window for a minute to experience their perspective?
The most fascinating thing about this experience is that when the girls came into our room, each claiming the other was wrong, Erin and I quickly chose a side. The fact that we based that choice on the available evidence (looking out the window) doesn’t matter. Whether we even chose the “right” side or not is irrelevant, we chose a side. In fact, both girls were actually right! Shaelyn had seen snow so it was accurate to say that it was snowing; when Zoe looked outside, there was no snow so it was accurate to say that it was not snowing. Even though they were each saying *opposite* things, they were both saying *accurate* things.
Ultimately, choosing a side, whichever side, was the only way to guarantee that we were wrong.

We are always laughing with our 3-year-old and those laughs are precious to us as we anxiously await the arrival of our second little boy. This past week he got hooked on the song “This Old Man” and after listening to the Veggie Tales version 100+ times, starting singing it around the house. Of course his version is a little different – instead of “knick-knack, patty-whack…” it is now “nake-nake, pally-wake, inny-minny-moe”. We can always count on him to lighten the mood. 🙂

I’m laughing at myself right now although not everybody found it funny. I left my office earlier today to run an errand (since the internet was down and I wasn’t able to get much done anyway). When I left I hung a sign on my office door letting people know I would return at 11:30. Well, I was back by 11:30 alright BUT I forgot to unlock the door and flip the sign to open. At 12:10 somebody knocked (more like banged) on the door and that’s when I realized what I had done, or in this case not done, and there were several people standing at the door (with angry faces) waiting for my return. Oops, we’re all human and make mistakes. Nobody was injured and no lives were lost so it’s not the worst thing in the world, lol….

My oldest son, (12) had to get his first pair of glasses. He was far from excited. The optometrist told him they would be ready if Tuesday, the 14th, which is Valentine’s Day. So I said to him, “oooh, maybe you can pick up some ladies with your new glasses!”
And he looked at me and said, “do you see my face mom? This is me not smiling. That wasn’t funny”
The optometrist laughed and told him, “well buddy, maybe in like five years you’ll be interested in the ladies”.

This past Sunday, our daughter found a stink bug between Sunday School and the start of church. She had it with her as we all sat down.
The man who sits in front of us was teasing her, as per norm, so when church began, she put the stink bug on the back of his shoulder. He was wearing a great color for stink bug camouflage btw. It immediately made tracks for his ear.
She and I watched it, suppressing laughter.
The service begins with prayer as usual, only this week, the speaker asked for prayer for ‘several in our congregation who are still ill’, adding “Unfortunately, there are still a couple of bugs going around.”
From that point on, throughout the service, my daughter and I were unable to look at each other.

On Sunday I gave my 5yr old son money for tithe and a snack at church before we left home. When we go to the church, my 22mth old daughter reached into her pockets, looked up at me with raised eyebrows and said “need money” like 3 times, I was in such shock and laughing so hard that I just stood there watching her until my son said I’ll help you, and gave her one of his quarters. She walked around the rest of the day hands in pockets and it just cracked me up so much.

Spent some time playing UNO with my sister and our youth minister’s wife on Saturday while waiting for our youth to return from a trip. It was getting quite competitive and my sister kept making it yellow knowing I had none. She was called away from the table to help her husband and we proceeded to replace her yellow cards with other colors from our hands! It was quite comical when she returned!

My family took a trip this past weekend to visit family and attend a wedding. There was a lot of laughing the entire weekend! One of my favorite moments was when my kids made a singing video with a cousin of theirs to the tune of “I’m a cat….meow…check me out.” Never heard the song before but they were all acting like cats and it was hilarious.

My son’s favorite movie is The Rescuers. He only gets to watch it in the car on long drives (grandma’s house is 45 minutes away). He laughs hysterically when the mouse falls in the bottle and talks, and now he’s started saying “Holy MOKES” like when the bird says ‘holy smokes’. Kills me every time.

Last night I watched a youtube video prank of a guy washing his hair at an outdoor shower after swimming and hanging out at the beach. As he would go to rinse shampoo out of his hair, another guy was squirting more shampoo onto his head. He was getting so frustrated that he couldn’t get his hair completely rinsed, it was hillarious! I was laughing so hard my kids thought I was crying.

I went out to lunch with my family after church on Sunday. I am surrounded by boys. I have two boys and then there is my husband. (I’m totally outnumbered!) If you are a boy mom, you will understand that certain words are always funny to them, no matter what context they are in. We were waiting for our lunch and there were some T.V’s nearby playing a bowling tournament. I told my boys that I thought they guy bowling had a pretty ball. I cannot say that word without my boys being silly. They were dying laughing, as was a table nearby that also heard. My boys were laughing so hard, that I also couldn’t stop. It was that contagious laughter! It was a great time and my boys made fun of me all day!

I was driving my van on the interstate on Friday, and I kept noticing the driver in front of me kept brushing their hair. Every few seconds they would pick up the brush & brush this way then that way, and look in the rear view mirror. We finally passed them and I looked over to see who it was… It was a middle-aged bald man!! ?
He only had the wisdom crown, (you know, a little hair on each side, but bald in the middle). I have no idea why he kept brushing that tiny bit of hair! I got so tickled! ?

Today I’ve been stressing about budget and overwhelmed by things God is calling us to and to top it all off my husband is out of town for work this week. I’m texting him throughout the day about my stress and I found a charge on our bank account from an area he was in. He told me it was him and he just forgot to tell me (I balance our bank account in my journal). I told him I just couldn’t talk about that, I’m so overwhelmed and stressed I just wouldn’t say nice things about that unnecessary spending. His response? A meme from Frozen of Elsa singing “Let It Go”. Clearly my husband has a sense of humor and that’s why I married him, unfortunately I haven’t laughed yet. ?

I have 2 boys (2 & 4) that challenge me everyday but it’s really about the little things, funny and ah ha moments that press me forward with love an amazement. The other day after a bath my 2 year old thought he’d start his own game of hide and seek, I found his naked little backside and head inside a hanging closet organizer. I love those baby buns 🙂 I wish I could attach the picture I had taken of is Smart hiding spot but my cell won’t let me. It’s quite the laugh ?

Last night my sister and I were telling stories to her fourteen year old daughter about her antics when she was around three years old. One day my sister shows up to pick her up from daycare and she is walking around in a bikini and pink cowgirl boots! She had hid them in her backpack. She said to the owner “really”, and the owner replied with, “but she is so darn cute and makes us all laugh”. My niece particularly loved that story being the free spirit that she is. There are four older brothers to go with my niece and those kids make me laugh every day. I am so thankful and very blessed!

My 2 year old has kept me giggling this week. She has begun repeating large words, like ridiculous and amazing but she will use them out of context, or mix things together. She spent time at my mother’s house this weekend and informed me that “she shoveled at meenas.” And when asked what she shoveled, she responded with “paint.” The last time she was there she made a smoothie, but instead of saying so, she told me “meena and me drank cut up coffee.”
She has now begun asking everyone if they “shake their booty?” As well.
I don’t know where she gets this from!

Yesterday I was totally convinced that I had lost my cell phone in my living room. Looked for a few minutes, decided I couldn’t be too late for work and left. Sent my hubby an email when I got to work to see if he could look for it on his lunch break. 20 minutes later, I hear my alarm go off — from my purse where I had left my cell phone! Have no recollection of putting my phone in my purse after walking the dog but obviously did! Yep…. just laughed at myself and called the hubby to call off the search!

Half of my family is traveling this past weekend and week, leaving just the girls home. We have planned a chick-flick week. Totally vegging out with them this week. My iconic 80’s movies don’t always have the same allure with my millennial girl. It has been the funniest day, already. My daughter is definitely flabbergasted by what we thought was funny. Skipping school, being in detention, Chinese exchange students falling out of trees, a naked mermaid in NY, and Meg Ryan characters all seem pretty silly to her. (And in my older age, it all sort of does.) But those were my movies. They have a place in my heart and I love sharing them with my teenage daughter. We have been laughing non-stop and quoting “like” everything from the movies we’ve seen so far. It’s just been such a bonding experience before she heads off to college next year.

I texted my 15 y.o. son to see if he was awake…

I didn’t want to put them in there but I couldn’t stop and then it kept flushing. I was so afraid” Her biggest fear is self flushing toilets. Here I thought she dreamed of monsters or something. Her story made me smile all day.

I have 6 kids so I have a lot of material to work with! ? But a couple nights ago I was nursing the baby and our 9 yo son threw up in his top bunk bed. He likes to keep all his treasures in his bed too. So I walk in to my husband, who’s not happy, telling my son to hand him things that had puke on them. Down came pillows, blankets, flashlights, his bible, library books, stuffed animals…and I just started laughing! It was either that or cry! ???

We spent the weekend fixing some worn out parts on our 26 year old dryer. Had a rainy Monday and I thought I was good to go with the dryer instead of hanging out laundry! However, after I got my load of wet clothes into the dryer, the drum quit turning!!! Ack! So I found some clothes line in our camping stuff and strung it all across our living room. When I picked up my daughter from school, I told her about my indoor laundry. She could not wait to see! When she got in the house, she laughed and giggled and then tried doing the limbo under the different lengths of laundry! Oh! That was so funny to me!!!

My husband and I (married nearly 35 yrs) went to a marriage retreat where they showed three skits. The winner was a skit of a husband who was nit-picking his wife about EVERYTHING (cooking, laundry, ironing, cleaning, etc). She responded with such grace to his overbearing approach. Finally, she said “I can’t take this anymore! WHY are you treating me this way when you KNOW that I KNOW how to accomplish these tasks?” The husband didn’t miss a beat when he replied “I just wondered how you would feel if I treated you the way you treat me when I drive!!!!!!!” It was hilarious, as evidenced by a roar from the crowd! I’d LOVE to win these books!

Okay, so this is funny but not funny. My family’s house is literally falling apart. As in, irrepairable-not worth repairing-falling apart. (And yes, they are in the process of getting a new house built! Yay!) But in the meantime, their toilets went out. Not the toilets really, but the pipes and structure holding up the said toilets. Having no toilet is not funny. So they brought in the camping porta-potty. What was funny was when my mom told me that my teen brother said, “Well, that was an interesting experience!” after using it for the first time. lol

Something that is making me secretly laugh: My husband received a pair of sweat pants for Christmas from my daughter and one leg is about an inch or so shorter than the other! He didn’t notice when he first tried them on. He is very tall so it is really obvious to me. He doesn’t care though… he just wears them and it doesn’t bother him one bit. Men are so interesting sometimes! 🙂

Thank you so much for the opportunity to win this giveaway! One thing that has made us laugh recently would have to be our son turning 10, this year we decided not to throw a large party for him. He got to have a family dinner + one friend, basically anywhere he wanted to go eat. Well he chose our local Chinese Buffet, we live in a small town and the food is not great, we gave him several options but he was sure that he wanted that particular buffet. Well the food was blah, my son only really eats the sweet and sour chicken and that is okay….he was so happy and pleased because his food was SO GOOD!!! Needless to say we spent $65 for sup par food and ice cream (because they have really good ice cream). We decided we have to take him to a few better Chinese restaurants so that he has other options next year.

For Valentine’s Day my husband (who is deployed) sent me one of those giant teddy bears as a placeholder til he comes home. I decided that instead of feeling sorry for myself I would take Roosevelt (my new teddy) on a date! We went to the movie theater and our local diner where we shared a milkshake, just like my husband and I used to do on dates! The looks on people’s faces were priceless as I hauled a 6 1/2 foot teddy bear around riding piggy back. Certainly a memory I will never forget!

Well, I’m not laughing yet, but I think (hope) I will be eventually.
I had a bit of an Anne Shirley moment yesterday when, as I began to empty the water out of the crockpot I had left to soak overnight, I discovered a mouse had drowned in it. I believe everyone has that one special “critter” that gives them absolute heebie-jeebies, and mice are mine. I’ve still got the shivers when I think about it, but am sure it will be laughter…. some day.

This past weekend we went to a sports bar for lunch with our friends, along with our 15 month old son, and their 3 year old daughter and newborn baby. This place is very welcoming to young families, but somehow also full of cool young people. As we were walking out, our friend casually grabbed their potty seat and tucked it under his arm. When I caught his eye, we immediately started laughing. I guess this is our new version of cool:-)

Things that make me laugh? It’s usually the stupid stuff, failures, near misses, successes, you name it my husband and I have probably laughed at it. Most recently I’ve laughed at my husband greeting a fellow who always sits in the row ahead of us. My husband will say, “Hey Jeff!”, then proceed to shake his hand. Then the other fellow will say, “Hey Jeff, how are ya?”, then they laugh because they are BOTH Jeff. It’s like a bad rerun of The Bob Newhart show with Daryl, this is my brother Daryl and my other brother Daryl.

Hey Crystal! I’m especially interested in that Gratitude journal and the Magnolia Story 🙂 Something that’s making me laugh lately…the TV show “Parks and Rec”. Once in a while we’ll find a marathon of it on TV – and the other day I was home watching by myself and was actually laughing out loud at parts! P.S. Interested in what the heck Enneagram is! Will have to check it out 🙂

My 5 year old son–he pretends to be a professional hockey player every day! Our hallway is the locker room and he even does his own play by play announcing. I love hearing his creativity and he doesn’t always win which probably makes me laugh more.

We had a great laugh last night. My husband came home from work while our five year old was in the bath. For whatever reason, our older kids and I were all in the same bathroom with him. When my husband came in, our son whispered in my ear and asked if he could tell dad. Dad wanted to know the secret so badly that he offered to jump in the tub if we told him. So, within a few minutes of fake secrets, he finally got the truth (only that we are the last of the dessert!) and plopped himself in the tub with his work clothes still on! My goodness were the kids surprised! Lots of big laughs and a good memory for years to come!

My kids were watching Amazon Video and found Blue’s Clues and decided to try it. My son was yelling at the TV because he couldn’t believe Steve couldn’t see anything in plain sight. It was so funny my husband and I were laughing so hard. It was good 🙂

Right now, my husband has been making me laugh. We are on our first vacation in ten years (budgetary restraints kept us from traveling), and we are having a wonderful time! It is often easy to let the stresses of everyday life get in the way, and we forget that our partners are there to lift us up. I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time and it feels great!

A few days ago my husband woke up with blurry vision, which thankfully turned out to just be a medication side effect. He was talking about it later and said he was having ‘blurred visions’ which made me laugh. As Presbyterians, we don’t normally talk about having visions around here, blurred or otherwise. 🙂

Hi Crystal. Thank you for doing such a nice giveaway! I love reading, but as a busy mother of two, wife and a full time caregiver I don’t often find a lot of spare time to do it. I’ve actually started reading outloud to one of my clients that has a hard time seeing small print (and is a Christian) I think she would really love some of these books! Thanks for your consideration 🙂

I forgot the funny part….
My husband and I were cracking up watching our mini schnauzer this past weekend. You see, he’s only an 18 lb little furball (in need of a trim!), But he acts as if he were a 200 lb beast when wrestling around with my husband. He does this funny little bark while running from one end of the room to the other, bouncing off the couch cushions and doing laps. He would go over and tease my hubby like he was going to get him and then do another lap, phsycing him out so to speak. It just made us giggle so hard. ?

Still laughing about it. Cannot wait to spend the whole week laughing with her!

Right now I’m cracking up every time I remember my 3yo telling me she “loves me tooooooo much” and that she can’t sleep alone…and when I told her she had been going to sleep alone and doing a great job…she calmly informed me that she “lost that power.” Can you tell her two big brothers love superheros…?

My son is 17 months old and had a brain injury from birth. He’s getting so expressive now. It took a month for him to cry, but now he cries like a pro! Only just recently did his cries become really distinct (sad, hurt, whiny, tired, etc.) Latley, after too short of a nap, he’s been giving me the whiniest of cries that comes complete with a big ole pouty lip. It’s hilarious! You make think I’m awful for laughing at my kid’s sorrow, but he a come so far. Every moment is a blessing and I can’t help but smile when he does something he couldn’t do before. ?

I asked my 3-year-old granddaughter to count for me. She did, including flipping one finger up for every number, but stopped at “8.” I knew I’d heard higher numbers, so asked, “Can you count any higher?” She smiled, and confidently raised her arms “higher” and repeated the same counting with fingers popping up for each number again, only this time, “higher in the air.” I burst out laughing and had to say, “Good job, Avery!”

My teenage daughters are obsessed with snapchat. I’ve joined in more times than I can count-thinking I can trust them…BAD CHOICE on my part. This last Sunday was my birthday and he younger of the two put sweet birthday wishes on Facebook adding two snapchats that she had saved from a few months ago. Those snapchat filters-love them/hate them! But it reminded me that I have a fun side! All of the Facebook friends that commented on her post gave me a new perspective of mothering. I’m usually the disciplinarian in our family…but I can’t stop laughing at this particular post.

My husband and I were chatting last week about me getting back into ministry. We do not have children yet, so his response is… “What are you going to do when we have a baby? Life is not going to get any easier. And when were you thinking that will happen? I am not getting any younger, i already hurt when I go to bed at night, I don’t want to be an old parent! Melissa, what are we going to do?”
He was absolutely freaking out and thankfully I was calm and peaceful, because I have come to peace that we are not parents yet and know there is purpose behind it. It made me laugh out loud though…. we are not even 30! 🙂

My children make me laugh. Every day is an adventure with them. Yes, they fight. However, when they go outside to play together they are completely happy.
They love to play survival and work so well together to accomplish what needs to be done. They work together to build their ‘shelter’, then one collects water why the other gathers ‘food.’ They even take turns watching over the chickens. I wish I could harness the same when they are working inside!
I love reading and we love reading together as a family. Winning these books would be a blessing.

What makes me laugh–lots of stuff. But my favorite is the sheer joy that my kids exhibit about the silliest things. Whether it’s the funny word they hear that sends them into hysterics or something else. As adults, we often forget the carefree laughter for all the worries. I want to be intentional to find the joy in the little areas.

My daughter recently started her new job, as a Barista, at our local coffee & chocolate shop. (She doesn’t like coffee.) At training they had the new employees try some of the chocolate & expresso. Ok what makes me laugh? Generally, NOT my husband. Lol he’s great and all but his jokes are more dad jokes I just don’t find as funny as he does. Now, when I do find him funny we always stop in our tracks… because the only time he’s funny is when I’m pregnant! The joke is, uh oh, you must be pregnant! Then we proceed to laugh even more. You see we have 6 kids and the 3 Dr’s said we could never get pregnant, then I got pregnant on birth control 3 separate times! I’m actually laughing writing this because this is literally our conversation.

We have been a housing family for an USHL hockey team we have here in our town for 7 years. We open our home to boys between the ages of 16-20 who play hockey for a chance to get scholarships for college. It is such an amazing experience to get to know these kids and their families. It can be a little crazy at times with 2 hockey players and our own teenager in the house. They all are different and you never know what is going to be coming out of their mouths or what shenanigans they are up to. I love reading your posts everyday. Your ways to save money has definately helped with trying to feed these human garbage disposers. I love your recommendations of books. One weekend my husband and I had gotten a late night pizza. In the morning our almost 4 year old daughter noticed the box on the counter and after inspecting, in the most serious face and tone said “I, ahh, see you and ahh, dad had pizza last night.” Never have we felt so guilty! But they got the left overs for lunch! So all was well! The seriousness and hilarity of kids is so wonderful and refreshing, I love it.

Yesterday I heard strange ravenous animal noises coming from my daughters’ bedroom. Upon investigation, I found that it was my four year old son playing “Tuxedo, the fox” (a character he and his seven year old sister have invented). I’m pretty sure the game mostly involves her bossing him and calling him until he comes to her, but apparently sometimes foxes just need to grub out on play food!??

My youngest daughter and I visited my parents this past weekend. My niece and nephew came in on the last day and we sat at the dining table to play a board game with them.
My nephew (11) was extremely tired from the weekend so he kept fidgeting and making noise to stay awake. As the game progressed he kept getting louder and goofier. By the end of the game we were all joking we were playing in the middle of things….busy highway, parade, combat zone etc.

The most current thing to make me laugh is my children’s idea of a gas station. Hey, Mom they said…come see Gas station #1, and Gas station #2….they were riding bikes in our basement, and gas station #1 happened to be my old upright vacuum that has the hose you can stretch out (very creative thinking, I thought), and # 2 was our coiled up garden hose that had a nozzle on it still, that they were using. The way they asked me to come see, and the creative imaginative minds they have made me, and make me laugh!!!! 🙂 So Fun!!! 🙂

My 4 year old son was walking in the living room the other day and he paused to look up at the ceiling. He then proceeded to point to it and say,” Mama, I see a buttcrack up dare”. I looked up and thought, what in the world? Did he just say what I think he said? I asked him to repeat it and sure enough, “I see a butt crack up dare” is what came out. So now every crack he finds is a “buttcrack” and we laugh like crazy about it, lol! ????

Putting my 3 year old to bed last night, he was still a little wound up. To try to get him to settle down, I laid down and started fake snoring. My boys and I live a good game of Monopoly. The other day I was playing with one of my boys and rapidly accumulating properties. When one of my older boys came in and started watching the game, I asked him if he could take over my game when I left for work. He eagerly agreed, savoring the idea of winning. Within moments, I landed on income tax, chance, and community chest. My boys and I bemoaned my bad luck as I lost nearly all of my money. When I landed on “Go to Jail” next, my older son politely declared, ” No offense, mom; but I’m pretty sure that this is luck I’d rather not have.”

I recently crashed onto my daughters bed at naptime sighing…
Me: “Ugh, I am pooped.”
She jumped up and squealed…

Me: “No, No! I didn’t poop! It means I am tired!”
Contemplating what seemed like a bit of an excuse she replied in her best motherly tone…
“So when you are tired its okay to poop in my bed???”

Kids say the darndest things:
My son likes his macaroni and cheese from a particular box and he wants it made as instructed. He doesn’t want anything added. No extra cheese, no meat, no vegetables, you get the idea.
We sat down for dinner the other night and I thought I would be nice and fix the macaroni and cheese he likes, the way he likes it. He dished up his plate and looked at me with a look of suspicion that I had done something to ruin the macaroni and cheese. He asked me, “Did you follow the directions on the box? Did you add anything?”
I replied to his question, “Yes. I added lots and lots of love!”
He took a bit of the mac and cheese and exclaimed, “UGH! I can taste it!!”

This morning was a super rough Monday morning at our homeschool. My husband works at home, so I decide to go to his office in the basement to tearfully tell him “It seems that every Monday these days isn’t going well.” He was in the bathroom, so while I waited, I took a peek in our overflow pantry which is close to his office. I looked up at the toiletry and beauty item shelf and saw a box of tomato paste (Trader Joe’s tube kind) sitting right next to the other toothpaste. Laughter overtook my tears. As it turns out, my husband saw a box that said “Paste” so he assumed it was toothpaste and stuck with the other toothpastes. Not sure what he thought about the pictures of tomatoes being on the box. Doesn’t seem like a very good toothpaste flavor, but oh how I needed that laugh this morning!

Avacados are dangerous!!! Did exactly the same thing 6 months ago…same hand but ring finger. Tetnus shot and stitches to the tune of $900 because I went to ER…I could see the tendon but fortunately didn’t cut it. I now have PTSD when cutting avocado lol.

I have two little ones, ages 4 and 6. It’s been a long, cold winter here in Montana….our little family is so eager to get outside and enjoy some sunshine, ride our bikes and go camping! I have to laugh each day, otherwise being cooped up with the kids would drive me crazy! I just read a funny quote that says: “My mom voice was so loud, even my neighbors brushed their teeth and cleaned their rooms!” Love following you, your ideas, recipes and your very real outlook on life.

My daughter just lost her first tooth today, and she is SO excited! The whole situation makes me laugh… from the expectation of the tooth fairy’s arrival, her constant wiggling to try to get it out, her sticking her tongue in the new hole, and her sweet note to the tooth fairy asking what her name is.

My three year old ( he is the third child) and he loves to make everyone laugh. The way he does this by saying “poopy” at the end of a sentence and his two older siblings think it is so funny. My husband and I can’t figure out why it is so funny? And then we have to have the conversation about “potty talk” with the three year old:)

My kids crack me up daily, it is so much fun to watch the 3 of them at different stages in life. My 3yr old daughter has a great vocabulary. On Sunday she was brushing my hair and said “I am working it babe!” I am definitely going to miss the toddler stage!

My 5 year old! She has some pretty crazy dance moves and thinks she can sing like a pop star ? I laugh with her on a daily basis as we sing and dance our way through life! As a single mama, if I don’t take the time to laugh and enjoy the silly little moments, I would be a lot more stressed out – and couldn’t be on point for my sweet daughter!

My older dog, Sniffits, gets mad when we leave the house without her. Sometimes she sneaks out between our legs. Not too long ago, she almost ran out but I managed to grab her but because we have wooden floors, I couldn’t get a grip on her. Her legs were moving so fast, she slipped but she couldn’t move because I was holding on to her. The whole scene was ridiculous and funny. I was laughing so hard, I lost my grip and she jumped in the van. My husband and kids laugh every time we think about it. Now we have to sneak out of the house and make sure she isn’t by the door!
Kristina says
As a mom of 4 girls 7 yrs and under, I often say “it’s too much drama for this mama!” Between hair issues, wardrobe malfunctions, sibling squabbles, turning everything into a competition, toilet troubles and their constant need for a snack…But it’s all worth it! Our home is a school of virtue…I told them we’re like rocks in a rock tumbler smoothing out each other’s rough edges so we can become shiny gems someday. It’s been a crazy week with Valentine’s Day and a 5th Birthday so much so that it looks somewhat like Valentine and Birthday fun exploded in our home! Tonight during bedtime prayers they each wanted to sing a lullaby to Jesus which included a sweet impromptu prayer song, Away in a Manger, Jesus Loves Me and Hey Diddle Diddle. It was a sweet moment of mixed emotions for me that included a yawn, a tear and a chuckle which reminded me that amidst the exhaustion and chaos, we’re doing something right.

My six year old was dressing from a bath and said, ‘if I lived in Zambia I would be finished by now, because they only wear undies and if they’re going to school they maybe throw on a pair of shorts!’ ?Later in bed dad went for goodnight cuddles and found him nude! (I know ?) when asked why he had no clothes on he said ‘well if they wear undies in the day time in Zambia I figured they must take them off to go to bed! ?? he’s always making us laugh with this kind of random stuff!

Lately Mila, our new kitten we rescued just before Thanksgiving, has been making me laugh. She is so goofy and does the silliest things. One of our dogs has a bad habit of getting on the couch so I moved his dog bed to another location to encourage him to use that instead of the couch. Well Everytime I catch him on the couch and want to scold him I realize that Mila is curled up right in the middle of his bed and is sound asleep. It’s so funny because he is 115 pounds compared to her 3 pounds and it’s obvious who rules the house!

My busy 16 month old son!
He is so into carrying things around and “misplacing” them and recently discovered how to put things in his diaper pail. My phone has been in there multiple times and last week I almost threw out a handful of his toys and a new fabric “depiller” that mysteriously made their way in there.
Todays misplaced treasure was desetin diaper cream in his hamper… but I didn’t find it till after it went through the dryer. Lol.
[A stack of books like this would defiantly aid my quiet time during his nap time… just sayin. 😉 ]

After seeing an item on the news about animal abuse, my son and I were discussing how terrible it was. Our cat chose that moment to hop and up and begin the most complaining sounding meows we’d ever heard. He wouldn’t stop until we gave him treats. The kids and I were cracking up because of the perfect timing. And also because he’s spoiled rotten and the furthest thing from abused.

Its been raining a lot here in and so we’ve been staying inside and watching movies. Today we watched the secret life of pets which is a favorite family movie. My son is always doing random funny things. Today he took a book light and held it near his face. He pretend he was being interrogated and his captor was trying to get him to talk. He’d say “talk! talk!” and then my son would respond “no!”. Then he would turn the book light on and make a scrunched up face and dramatically surrender. He always keeps us in stitches!

My hubby came home from work today and saw my exhausted self with our boys. I love long weekends, especially since they make my boys so happy to have the day off school, but this has been a particularly long weekend for a lot of different reasons. Anyway, he came home, hugged me and then put his scruffy face in my neck to give me a kiss. It always makes me laugh because it tickles me. It’s the little, thoughtful things that put a smile on my face.

We took an impromptu trip to a 24 hour restaurant at 10pm (way past bedtime) this weekend. My 10 year old daughter was wearing very mis-matched pajamas and tennis shoes. She caught her reflection in the dark window inside the restaurant and instead of being embarrassed, she embraced it! “This is what everyone will be wearing tomorrow!”. We laughed so hard and I have tears running down my face just remembering it!

Wow loved your post very inspiring! My 5 year old makes me laugh the most right now I think he’s going to graduate college before I do. He’s always coming up to me saying things he’s learned in school asking me the other day why the “e” on a word is silent. Last week was the funniest though he said, “mommy an “a” is a vowel right?” and I said, “yes” and so then he says, “mommy then a “g” is a constinant” and I said, “it’s a what ?” and he says, “Mommy you know a costenant” I could do nothing, but laugh and say, “yes”. He sounded so cute trying to say “consonant”.

It’s hard to finds things that make me laugh these days. I have a lot of worry and anxiety so as much as I search for the silver lining, there’s always that doubt in the back of my head. I can however always count of my family to make me laugh, whether it be memories of my brothers when we were younger or my 20 year old nephew picking on me (I’m 30) they always bring a smile to my face. Currently, my 5 year old son has been quoting a lot of Teen Titan episodes. It makes me laugh to see him have such interest in a show and pick out what he thinks is funny. He’s hilarious and I love to laugh with him 🙂
Nora Gonzales says
My kids always give me something to laugh about and teach me to laugh at myself. They laugh at me when I try to multitask and forget my dish water is still running my noodles are over boiled, my little one is still the shower, and I forgot because I tried to fold laundry by the t.v. and lost focus when watching. It’s funny to them how I can get angry at myself for unsuccessfully “multitasking” so I have no choice but to laugh with them at me..if that makes sense. Meanwhile, my seven year old son learned he can change his voice or do impressions while showering. You just had to be there to make sense of it all. What a blessing it is to learn to laugh at certain things sometimes.

I have been struggling with the shingles for about a week. They are on my head, neck and face and have caused swelling and lots of pain. Last week, I actually fell trying to grab a bottle of conditioner while I was in the shower. When my husband heard all of the clatter, he came running. I was laughing so hard I could not hardly speak. I told him that I’m 41, have the shingles and fell in the shower. He should just check me into the old folks home now. Sometimes, even in the dark times, you just have to laugh at yourself.

As I join our son asks “but what if it scientific?” I ask him to give me a for example then I take a nice big first bite of spaghetti. My son says “well I was wondering if I ate a caterpillar, would I poop a butterfly?” He had a straight face and was extremely serious. I choked, had spaghetti come out of my nose and it took our family a good 15 minutes to get back to eating. I don’t think I will ever be able to look at a butterfly or caterpillar the same!!! Lol

My daughter just started driver’s ed this week. I have let her drive to and from class, which is at her school a few miles away. I laugh (on the inside, of course) at the way she nervously holds the wheel, drives 10 miles under the speed limit, and parks about 5 feet further out than she should. I am thankful for her caution as I struggle with anxiety during each trip, but it’s quite comical to see a new driver and hoping that is not how I looked all those years ago!

Today was my first day solo with 3 kids (Dad back to work after new baby). My 2-year old who desperately WANTS to use the potty, but has no clue what to do on it, locked herself in the bathroom with no diaper on while I was on the phone. And it’s the kind of sliding lock separate from the doorman for; no way to open it from the outside. I decided to finish my phone call and then deal with naked-kid-locked-in-bathroom, because what else are you doing to do??! With 3 kids three and under, you’ve just got to roll with it and laugh!

I love escape rooms! They are such a good place to bond with fellow escapees. I’ve done two and there was a big difference in the quality of both of them. We enjoyed the first, but the second was so much better (I’m glad we did them in that order). I’m gathering a bunch of women from church to do a new one next month. I hope it turns out like I suspect and it unites these wonderful women in an even greater way and provides some fun at the same time!

Yesterday my 5 year old was riding along with our family in our Jeep working away on his cardboard laptop with a mouse and mouse pad that he had made. He was so serious. My husband and I just cracked up and had to take a picture so we could remember the special little things like that when he is big which will just be in a few days it feels like. Time flies!!!!

My kids are always making me laugh. Here’s a gem that just popped into my FB feed: My laugh for the morning… I was kissing Evan (age 3) at the breakfast table this morning and he informed me, “Your nose is bigger than mine.” Nathan (age 7) piped in, “That’s what you get when you combine Polish and German — big noses.”

My beautiful, sweet granddaughters make me laugh every day! They are 3 and 1. The one year old is at a really cute stage now and really has me laughing everyday. I asked the three year old this morning to put up the box of playdough toys she had out. When I handed the box to her she told me she wanted me to put it up because her hands were very little. Hope you have a great week!

I’m constantly laughing at the signs of my children, almost 2 and 4, around my home. Tonight, I am joined by a Pound Puppy in bed, meticulously tucked in for the night. One of my favorites was the Halloween window clings where the candy corn became hats for all the animals. Like the random toys and stickers that I find randomly but meaningfully throughout my home, they are sweet reminders of their innocence and imagination. Some days are long, but the months and years fly by, so I cherish these memories.
Crystal, I’ve seen your posts in the past, but until the past week or so didn’t slow down to read them. I’m so thankful for all you share! I’ve been so busy rushing about life that I’ve been missing out on it for a bit and am thankful that what you share is helping me to get back on track and simplify my life!

My 3 year old daughter, Lydia, was upset with us when we stayed at a very small motel one night last week. She has been more used to staying in cities with large chain hotels versus a tiny family-owned motel. She cried for about 10 minutes in disappointment. By the time we went to check-out the next day, she wanted to stay at the motel and live there forever. Life with a 3 year old is never dull!! ?

I would love to win that stack of books.
So for something funny…
1. My husband and I have recently discovered and really enjoy watching the Dick Van Dyke Show. It is a great time where we get to laugh together.
2. Something funny I did- I made soup for a friend after a death in her family. I drive to her house to deliver it and visit. Well, I get half way there and realize the soup is in a bowl on the counter! I turn around and get it. Then as I’m driving to her house, the bowl spills and spills soup in the passenger footwell. I have to pull over to clean it up. Thankfully, there is still plenty of soup to eat in the bowl. After cleaning up the spill I continue on my way, arriving with no further problems or mishaps. The family got to enjoy the soup, thank goodness! It was very funny!

My five year old loves music and loves to watch our church services that they post online. He will stand on our fireplace, which is his stage, have me turn on the worship service and he pretends to be the worship leader. I love it. It made me laugh though because usually once the preaching starts he turns it off, but yesterday I looked at him and he had his legs propped up and crossed on his little table and he was watching the church sermon. He looked like a little man sitting there!

So my 2 1/2 year old is cracking me up right now. She’s been spending more time with a particular teacher at her daycare and is now developing a habit of calling everyone “Honey”. It might not be so funny if she didn’t do it in this exaggerated little southern drawl that makes her sound like a little Dolly Parton!
Btw… Magnolia Story is on my to read list this year 🙂 I’m not an “adoring fan”, but I find Chip and Joanna an interesting couple.

Hi Crystal,
All of us are at different stages with our children and as they grow we do want to push the “pause” button from time to time to savour their little moments. I hear you on that. Children grow way too fast don’t they? In our house (4 year old boy, and 2 year old boy/girl twins) it is also never a dull moment. Hilarity is always around the corner. Our boy twin always keeps us in stitches, typical energetic “ginger” with the sweetest heart who does everything with passion. We recently gave up the pacifiers. Said boy literally chewed his into pieces, and that was the last one so I thought. So sister who still had both of hers had to give them up too. Trying to be fair here. Bedtime and naptime have been interesting to say the least. Tonight little Mr. brought one out of hiding that I thought was long gone. Knowing him I bet you he was pulling it out for nap and re-hiding it when he woke up before I came upstairs to get them out of bed. Stinker! So when I took it away, in dramatic fashion of course he cries out, “Mommy I need it!” I replied, “you do now do you?” I caved and gave it to him while getting dressed for bed. Husband though came in and said, “what is that?” and popped it out of his mouth. Not another word was spoken about it and he went to sleep fine. I’m usually strong, but I think as a mom we like to hold onto our babies as long as possible even if that means sabotaging our own process a little from time to time! 🙂 Although I don’t like the fact that he did pull one over on me and at 2! Oh what I have to look forward to!

My four year old always makes me laugh. The other day he was playing peek a boo with me from behind our love seat. He thought he was being so sneaky and that I had no idea he was there. With 3 young boys, it is hard to pick just one. I guess one of the funnier moments involved my 4 year-old at church this weekend. We always encourage the boys to dance or clap during the closing song. My son was laying on the pee when he started dancing. No matter how hard I tried to coerce him into standing (and continuing the dance), he would not budge. It made me and everyone around us laugh.

We went to church as a family of 5 this past Sunday for the first time.
I have almost 4 year old triplets. My son is a typical boy that like to talk about poop and farts and butts a lot. So, on the way to church I reminded him that he should not say those words today.
He responded, “I won’t mom. Those are my home words, not my church words.”

My husband and I were prepping to paint but could not find the painters tape anywhere. We searched the other painting things and random places my husband puts things in the garage. We searched all around house thinking we sat it down somewhere but it was no where to be found. Finally my husband yelled “I know” and runs into the laundry room where he found the painters tape. I asked why it was there. It’s such a random spot. He’s reply was he put it with the other circle objects. I died laughing. All weekend when the one of us would ask where something is, the other would say “circles” or “with the circles”. We laughed all weekend. It helped reduce the stress of painting. I still don’t know what ‘circle’ things we have in the laundry room but everyone has their own way of organizing 🙂

The 22-year-old regaled us for years with really bad jokes…some were so bad that they were funny (usually puns). Now his 15-year-old brother has taken his place with the puns, and older brother, of course, thinks that younger brother can’t come up with a good joke. Younger brother’s jokes are not always puns, but…..
At lunchtime today, I told my husband that my nephew and his wife are expecting their first baby. Husband asks, with a twinkle in his eye, “What are they expecting?” I flippantly answered, “A hippopotamus.”
A minute later, 15-year-old asks, “What animal always looks on the bright side?” “A hippo-optimist.” A minute later, he came up with, “What animal deflates like a balloon?” “A hippo-poptamus.”

Hi Crystal,
Don’t cut pits out of the avocado! You shouldn’t need to do any cutting at all. When you’ve got the half of the avocado with the pit in it, hold it in one hand and use your other hand to embed the knife blade in the center of the pit. (Think of an ax going into a stump when you are done chopping wood.) Then gently twist the knife and the pit should pop right out. Yes, you should watch while you are embedding the knife in the pit, but that should take only a second and then you can be chatting the rest of the time.
Crystal Paine says
That’s actually what I always do and was trying to do in this case. I’m not sure what it’s called, but I’ve just always called it “cutting the pit out”. But this time, the knife slipped hard as I was trying to embed it and twist it out and it didn’t work out so well!
I think I’m going to try a different method or something from now on. Maybe just a spoon? I had a near mishap with a knife and an avocado not too long ago, too, so I’m thinking it’s time I try a new method!!! Yikes!
Kim says

With President’s Day being today, our 2 elementary kids at school have been studying both Abraham Lincoln & George Washington this month. We recently received a note home that our young son had to “move a star” at school that day (which is the school’s discipline system for unacceptable behavior). When I asked our child about it, he told me that he had to move a star during Library. Needless to say, I was quite puzzled of all classes to get into “trouble” for.
Come to find out, the Librarian had read the kids a book about George Washington & then showed the students a short educational video about President Washington. Our son started laughing hysterically during the video, so the rest of the class started laughing too (which obviously was disruptive to the learning environment). Being still puzzled, I asked our son, “What was so funny about a George Washington documentary?” His response was priceless, “Mommy, George Washington had totally girly hair!” Needless to say, we then had a conversation about common customs back during President Washington’s time as it pertained to garb, wigs, etc…that our son was clearly unaware of. (;

When we remind him not to pick his nose, he yells “I HAS BOOGIES!” This response is especially funny in public. He’s so cute when he says the phrase that we often tell him to stop picking his nose just to hear his reaction!

My five year old makes me laugh on a daily basis. Yesterday he had a cough so I gave him (possibly his first) cough drop. He sucked on it for a minute and then spit it in the trash. When I asked him if he didn’t like it he said, “No!!! It tastes like a rotten boot!” Not sure when he’s ever tried a boot or a rotten boot.

I was horsing around with my preschool students and after a bit I laid down on the ground and said I was pooped! One of my friends looked at my shocked and then looked at my bottom and said “You pooped?!” Potty training is a big thing in our classroom and it was so funny to see him concerned that I, a grown up, could have an “accident.”

That made me laugh! 🙂

Ive been exercising regularly lately and my 5 yr old said “your’re not going to be my momma anymore soon!” I asked “why who am I going to be? ” she answered, “a skinny old lady!” Ive been laughing about it for days.

I’m making myself laugh because I’ve always been very serious since I was a baby, but now that I’m middle aged, I’m learning life is so much better when I laugh at my mistakes or when things don’t go the way I planned. My teens have joined in the fun. It’s helping all of us enjoy life and learning more!

Our 2 year-old loves to “meow” the theme song to the A-Team (she calls it the “Hey Team”). We don’t have a cat and have no idea what a cat has to do with the show, but it is hilarious. Before you know it, the whole family is usually meowing theme songs from the ’80s.

My puppy makes me laugh every day! She is so full of love and energy! Over the weekend she spent about 10 minutes trying to get through the doorway with a stick in her mouth. Clearly the stick was longer than the door opening. It was hilarious to watch her try out different methods to get through. Eventually she just plowed through, breaking the stick in half. It was great!

The past week, I’ve been laughing at our new little kitten. She has no fear and is such a goofball. She literally jumped from the top of the baby gate directly onto my husband’s stomach, I guess she wanted a hug. ?

Last night our 2 year old ended up in bed with us. She is potty trained but had an accident. In our morning rush, I had to give her a quick bath. She walked out of the bathroom in a towel, looked at her 5 year old sister and proudly announced, “Hi Kenzie. I have a clean butt!” The entire family got a good morning laugh before heading out the door!

I’m a 9 through and through and my husband is a 1. When I first did the enneagram was when I realized that it was possible I annoy some people with my uber-peaceful personality. Knowing about and owning my 9Ness really helped me value myself.
I watched Hero with my husband, Jet Li movie, for free. They were showing it at the local university. Did you know some colleges offer free movie screenings? Perfect for dates. Plus they usually have a discussion about the movie.
Anyway, what was funny was as we were leaving I kept telling myself that this time I will remember the ending of the movie. I’ve seen it at least 5 times and always forget what it is about. While it is amazing photographic cinematology, it is shown from 3 different perspectives. If I forget the ending again, though, I don’t mind rewatching it.

A conversation of my kids when they were talking on the phone to each other (one was home and the other was with the grandparents):
7 year old “No don’t hang up, I want to talk to you forever!”
3 year old “We can’t talk all night you know!”
7 year old “Yes we can. Sneak the phone under your pillow.”
3 year old “ummm maybe. Well have to think about that okay?”

This week my oldest son and I were grocery shopping and talking about the fact that we are trying to eliminate sugar in our diet. He was telling me about a Youtuber that is doing this and we were just going on and on about it. Then just as we finished our conversation we turned the aisle and I said to him, “Grab me a bag of sugar, we’re almost out”. Short term memory loss I guess 🙂

Something that has had me laughing lately is my son. My husband has ALWAYS made fun of my dance moves, saying I dance like a dork. My son just turned 16 months and has started dancing to music, whether it me a true song or simply theme music to a TV Show. We’ve come to realize he dances just as dorky! I end up laughing the whole time he’s dancing, it brightens my day each time!

My sons (2 1/2 and 1 1/2) love getting into trouble together! Just this morning, they pulled nearly all the snacks from our pantry into the living room, where they were watching Thomas the Train. They managed to dump a bag of pretzels onto the floor. With my prompting, they helped clean them up. Soon after, I took my older son upstairs for a nap and when I came back, my youngest had pulled out the box of Cheerios and dumped the entire box onto our kitchen floor. While some moments like these can be frustrating, I always try to snap a picture before cleaning up. This gives me a minute to “breathe” if I’m tempted to be upset, and will make us laugh at this memory in a few years!

All the funny things my girls (currently ages 10 & 6 1/2) say make me laugh! I like to share their quips/funny sayings on Facebook. Over the years, people have told me I could “write a book” with all they have to say. Only problem: I hadn’t really written them down anywhere other than Facebook. The stories and moments were stuck in a bad Facebook time warp! It would have been WAY too daunting (and time consuming) to scroll back through my timeline to record them (copy paste into Word doc). Life saver: when Facebook introduced “on this day” feature a little over a year ago! Each day, I went to “on this day” and copied and pasted the stories/quips and pulled them into my personal Word Doc outside of Facebookland. Last November, I made a full circle of a year and completed MOST of the past year’s stories that I had neglected to document anywhere other than Facebook. Oh, I missed a few days here and there (so, since I’m in the habit of checking “on this day” regularly I still check it and add those ones I missed the first time around, adding to my Word doc.) I have a pretty comprehensive list now in that Word doc (hint: when copying and pasting the story, I also typed the date (MM/DD/YYYY) that the specific moment happened. Thank you for this opportunity to win some amazing reads!

My 12 yo son is really into corny jokes and puns lately and most of the time I think they are hilarious too. My girls are older and they just roll their eyes at us but we love to tell each other new ones. A few of our favorites are:

Why do cows have hooves? Because they lactose.
And my all time favorite–What do you call a fish with no eyes? Fsh. That one makes me giggle every single time!!

We went to Monterey Bay aquarium yesterday and was talking to my almost 6 year old about conservation and I asked him if he knew what it meant and he proudly said yes. I thought, wow what a smart kid. When I asked him what it meant, he said conservation is when two people talk to each other! Sometimes these big words are hard to differentiate, we had to explain that when two people talk to each other it’s conversation and not conservation. Life is always so fun with a 6 year old!

I’ve just dabbled with the Enneagram, but I’m confident that I’m a five (with a 4-wing, making me “the iconoclast,” which I am probably unreasonably proud of).
Making my laugh, yesterday was my day to volunteer in the church nursery, so those kiddos are always a hoot! I usually have toddlers, so there is the regular who doesn’t want mom and dad to leave, and the visitor who runs right into the middle of the action without a backwards look.

This is kind of long, but it’s an account of how I spent my Valentine’s Day. The post – with picture is on my Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/marychris.bradley?fref=nf&pnref=story) I laughed, I cried, I pounded my head against the wall . . .
Time, and why you can never depend on plans if they involve time you thought you had.
Like when you THINK you’ll have time to get back to some free work you promised you’d do just as soon as your paid work was complete, but that day is when your lovely, wonderful dog decides he needs another emergency room visit at the Vet hospital. Twice in two weeks is way too many!
And you skip breakfast to get the dog there, and while you’re waiting Mr. Lovely Dog pees a LAKE in the middle of the hospital lobby. And when I say LAKE I mean as in LAKE MICHIGAN or larger.
And of course, while you’re sitting around watching your dog pee on the floor, YOU get the urge. Ever try going to the restroom with a BIG dog – as in TALL dog – one who thinks toilet water is akin to the finest champagne (get my drift?) Yes, this is a dog who will bark for fresh water if he’s left even the smallest trace of backwash in his bowl, or if it’s not chilled to his preferred temperature. But mud puddles, YUM! Public restroom bowls, YIPPEE!
And, you did check to make sure you aren’t trailing anything from your shoe, but who knew that you’d somehow tucked that stupid pull string at the bottom of your coat, into your jeans! So you leave the bathroom with Mr Lovely Dog dripping toilet water from his moosh and the bottom of your coat tucked into your pants. Oh, and of course, Mr Lovely Dog’s Dr is who you run into on your way back to the lobby. UGH.
If that weren’t bad enough, while you’re standing at the window setting up surgery for said dog, someone taps your arm and says “Don’t step back.” Luckily, I’m a lifelong dog owner and a statement like that means “cause your dog just did a dump the size of a pile of bricks right behind your foot.” UGH!
So you grab the box of tissues on the counter and neatly lay a pile of them on top of his pile, then continue setting up the surgery date.
Oh, and did I mention that said Lovely Dog recently decided that all 70+ pounds of him needs to be LIFTED into the back hatch of your car? Or that the vet hospital is 35 minutes one way if you’re obeying the speed limit, but a mere 22 minutes if you speed like all get-out?
Or that the refills on his meds, PLUS the emergency visit cost more than a complete new wardrobe, including shoes?
And there you have it, day one of trying to get that work started again, shot to heck. I can hardly wait to see what tomorrow has in store.
Le sigh. . .
Oh, by the way, I didn’t step in that pile, or the lake, but Mr Lovely Dog did – yep, he stepped in BOTH of them.
And that’s why I carry baby wipes in my car. UGH.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Tina Corley says
I took my dog and kiddo to the dog park. While I was there, a yellow lab would run and jump into the water after rocks his owner would throw. Then his owner would say “that’s it, you are going to have to go under to get one” and the dog would dive under water and come up with the biggest rock he could carry, like 10-15 pounds. It was unbelievable and hilarious!

This makes me laugh every time I think about it! I can hear her telling her dad this and I can hear my husband saying, “Fine, just poop in your pants” LOL!!

Our youngest (4 1/2) cracked us up this week – he wanted 60 pistachios as his bed time snack and I said he could have 5. He proceed to tell us that his 5 were 60 but that it was a fiction story because it wasn’t true so he really didn’t have 60 but he was just saying that he did. Just as serious as could be, telling us the difference between fiction and non fiction. 🙂

Well, I don’t think my two girls realize that hormones run a muck and when they do they talk, argue and well you know…. its unending…. This past week my Cat Isabella came into heat….she was unending meowing and rubbing and just wanted everyone’s attention….The girls were saying ” Will this ever end, will she ever shut up ? lol Well just about the time that she did… my sons cat Dominique started in and is in heat this week….The girls are not thrilled, but I explained to them again that hormones do strange things to us…and that they needed to remember to not be so loud or attention seeking when they experience the monthly hormones running a muck…. It goes along way into making home peaceful if one controls their actions and attitudes during this time…. If only the girls could see it !!! They are 13 and 14….pray for me !!!

This week actually this Sunday what made me laugh was taking my kids and their friend to the park it was nearly 70 degrees here in PA however less than two weeks ago we had a snow day. It was so funny seeing kids running around in shorts and short sleeves and there was still some snow in spots. They would run from the pier at the park and then jump into the little snow bank and the end it was really strange and funny to watch. And we took our dogs too and they would run into the water then come out shake off and run to the snow, by far the funniest and strangest thing I’ve seen in a while.

We have all been laughing at my son’s hysterical belly laugh when he squirts bath toys into the potty and then goes pee in there himself, laughing even harder (we are just starting to potty train). Also, just saying the word “poop” or “toot” or “booger” or “burp” sends him into fits of laughter. Joys of boys. Haha

Oh, and I studied the Enneagram pretty in depth (I’m a one…that’s how we roll) about five years ago. My husband is a nine. It has been immensely helpful for our marriage and for our own growth in becoming more “redeemed” (I’m not sure if that language is used in the book you read. We primarily read books and listened to lectures by Richard Roth.) It has helped me be more empathetic and gracious toward others weaknesses and struggles.
My dad was a very unhealthy eight and I used to get so angry when he would steam-roll over all of us with his power and capitalize on our insecurities by teasing or ridiculing. And I would get annoyed at my (seven) mom’s lack of depth with me and seemingly inability to be serious. But now if they do those things, I can be gracious, knowing they are struggling against their natural sin nature. I can also speak their “language” of what they naturally value or encourage them toward what their healthy number would look like, too. It has made us closer without them knowing any of it!

Yesterday we were on our way home from a cattle show. We got a text from some friends that had left the show a few hours before us. Someone put a pair of coveralls in the back of the truck and they blew out in the middle of the freeway about 2 hours into the trip. Well, we happened to find them on the side of the road, pulled over, picked them up and texted a picture of the new found coveralls. Definitely a story we will be talking about for years…and saved a certain husband from a TSC shopping trip.

C: He isn’t the sweetest and isn’t funny at all.

I am a single mommy with a 22 month old. Today, from his car seat (at a moment where I was not feeling entirely like I have my life all together), he starts cheering and clapping from the back seat. “Mommy! Yay! Good job! Yay mommy!”
I don’t know how he knew I needed a little pep talk in that moment, but later that night at church, he sat with me during the service (normally he is in the nursery, but he insisted on “Jesus songs” tonight), placed his hand on my cheek, and softly rubbed my cheek with his thumb.

My kids love the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and since it has been a rainy and cold weekend where we live the four of us cuddled up on the couch and giggled ourselves silly watching the antics of Captian Jack Sparrow and the crew. I’ll take any excuse for lazy fun time with the kiddos.

Hearing the stories my daughter tells me about her roommate’s cat (Boots). I never grew up with a cat so I am always surprised by what Boots does – sits in the bathroom and watches while my daughter gets ready, jumps up and tries to open my daughters door handle in the morning, etc. I hear a new Boots story at least weekly.

I’ve been watching old sit-coms late at night when I struggle with insomnia. They were SO funny without all the ugliness that’s in more modern sit-coms… it makes me happy that they’re still around but sad that new comedy can’t be clean.

Watching old shows and reminiscing about that time or the funny way things were done. Oh and pretending to talk with a southern drawl for several hours. Lots of laughs.

Crystal, thank you so much for your post! I really admire how you were also able to laugh at yourself and encourage others through your failed experiment. Also, thank you for this post in how I just had a light bulb turn on for me of being more purposeful in my week and listing through all the subjects you have here are such great positive reminders and challenges for the next week.
As for what I’m laughing at, I was laughing just today when my 4 yr old was telling me all the songs from Star Wars he likes. But instead of just telling me, he sang them and sang only about 2-3 notes then moved on to the next song without pausing. 😉 I just had to stop and smile 🙂
Thanks for your encouragement and purpose you inspire in others. God bless.

My three year old daughter likes to watch Peppa Pig. She now pretends that she is Peppa and I’m Mummy Pig. It cracks me up because when we are in public, either in the grocery store or the park, she calls out loudly, “Mummy Pig”. People always turn to look!

We discovered some home videos on a USB my mom gave us years ago – they were of our son when he was 3 (he’s now 9) singing and laughing and playing with my sister and my mom. We have a feeling they videoed him when he was visiting them in CA with my husband and my hubby was asleep (jet lag, we live in Australia) and my son was still awake so they were entertaining him. So much fun!

My little guy telling his daddy that I can’t come to the phone because I am busy MILKING! No, not a cow. Just pumping frequently to keep my milk supply up for his brother in the NICU. Something that made me happy was being out riding horses with a good friend. We meet at 6:30, jump on bareback and explore the fields before we start our days of homeschooling and momming. On Saturday we saw 3 skunks! It is the first time I’ve ever seen one that was both alive and in the wild. The first one was digging a burrow and we saw it before it saw us and immediately headed away from it. It did eventually see us (and the horses saw it!) and a while later we definitely smelled it. It obviously wasn’t a full spray, but we were sure glad to be away from it! And then we ended up following another one in a different field and it came up on the third one and started a fight. We headed away, they broke it up and everyone escaped smelling just fine 🙂 There were many jokes about what would have happened if we did get sprayed, but trust me, we have no interest in riding Lady Godiva style through the fields and roads we were on! Would have been a crazy start to many motorists day 🙂
Jess says

Tonight, when reading a Bible story to my girls, I was describing what an idol was and how it can be anything you worship instead of God. The differences between boys and girls make me laugh. I took my 2 sons and my 2 nieces shoe shopping last summer. My boys didn’t even want to stand up in the shoes I picked so that I could make sure that they fit. My nieces on the other hand took pictures of the shoes, walked around the store in the shoes, pondered color choices, etc. My boys were so over shoe shopping that day…

Tonight my 3.5 year old was helping me make dinner. He really wanted to crack the eggs we needed to coat the chicken. (Note: he has never cracked eggs before, but has watched me do it quite a bit.) He took one egg and tapped it on the side of the dish, and once it got a crack, he took the egg and kind of smushed it to get the white and yolk out. I said, “Well, that’s one way to crack an egg.” He repeated the same procedure for egg number two, and he chuckled and said, “That’s one way to crack an egg!” And he repeated the same procedure and phrase after the third egg. I was cracking up at his excitement to help and enjoyment of our conversation. He was a proud egg cracker, and watching him really brought joy to our meal prep ?

Today I randomly found a picture my 5 year old drew during church last week. She had wrote “God dise” (God dies) and had drawn three people on crosses. I laughed last night overhearing a conversation between my husband and my daughter as he was gently and patiently brushing her hair after a bath while I brushed her sister’s hair. She was fussing in spite of the detangler used and he told her that it wasn’t too bad and that he was trying to be easy. Her reply? Daddy, it always pulls. If you were a lady with long hair to brush you could empathize more. Sweet girl just turned seven and such a formal reply cracked me up. :).

One thing that has made me laugh this week (and every week, really) is how my sweet, elderly Mom tells her stories. Mom suffers with dementia, and being that she lives with us and I care for her full time, I get to hear the same stories over and over… but sometimes with an added twist! My Mom has such a quiet and gentle disposition, and I get such a kick out of hearing her share about her life, especially when she sprinkles a few extra colorful details! She’s a doll and if I wasn’t laughing, believe me, I’d be crying… I’m so thankful for these funny bright spots in our day! : )

My husband and I were shopping last night and he was giving my email address to the cashier and it starts with “my2….” and the cashier said, “I thought you were going to say my two wives”. While riding in the van last night our oldest child (3years old) and youngest child (10 days old) were crying as it was way past bed time. While reaching back to try to calm our youngest I looked at our middle child (20 months old) and she had her hands covering her ears with the funniest look on her face just wishing they would stop. Well, I am not an animal person, but live with people who are so we have 1 dog, 1 rabbit, and 4 chickens. This afternoon I was on the couch and started whistling at our dog (who was not too far from me) to see if it would respond to me. Immediately it jumped up and ran into the other room. I kept whistling and it kept running around to different rooms until she finally figured out it was actually me. It was funny. I guess I need to give the dog more attention! I really want that stack of books!

We live 10 hours away so are blessed by the photos my son texts every day. He is finally off the feeding tube and breathing equipment and doesn’t have his head covered by stuff constantly so we can see his whole face and head now. So the picture this week he is smiling and his little hairs are sticking up all over his head. I can’t look at my phone without laughing and crying at the same time!

Hello, Crystal! My dear husband made me laugh yesterday at church. Our pastor had told 2 jokes during the announcements. My husband who had broken his back about 8 weeks ago and has been trying to wean off of his prescription, decided that if the jokes were a sign of the sermon message, he might need more meds to dull the “pain.” He was kidding of course. He told our pastor who also thought it was funny.
And then, my dear doggie. He is getting older and lays around mostly. I decided to give him some company and lay down next to him. A few minutes later, he got up and walked to the other side of the room and plopped down. I got up and returned to my cleaning. I came back later and he was back where he was earlier. I guess he didn’t want any company. It just made me giggle at him. He has such an interesting personality. ??

Our five year old daughter asked to purchase a single golden delicious apple at the grocery store this past week. We always buy gala or honey crisp by the bag. She sat down to the table and told us that this has been her absolute favorite type of apple. My husband asked where she ate another golden delicious one… she replied, ‘oh you know… we celebrated some old man named Johhny at school’. My husband asked, ‘ do you mean Johnny Appleseed?’ She replied, ‘oh yes, that was him’!

I had to laugh at MYSELF this past week!! I went to pick up kindergarten kids from carpool and was so proud of myself because I had left early. Well, I had forgot that it was early out that day! I pulled up and no one was there!! I panicked and then remembered it was early out. A quick visit to the school office revealed I was not the only one who forgot. The room was full of children! A mom passed me on the way out and smiled and said, “Glad I am not the only one who forgot!” I laughed the whole way home!!

I tutor high school and college students. My son is usually in the next room playing on the computer while I am tutoring. Occasionally my student and I will be having a discussion about a question and all of a sudden, my son will blurt out the answer. It makes all of us laugh.

Wednesday nights, I work in my church’s nursery while the parents have Bible study. I was playing with a child, and he mentioned how John eat flies.
“Ew!” I said. “John eats flies! Who’s John?”
“John,” he answered slowly, “John the Bat—-the Baptist.”

I’d love to win the books. The pics of your kids are so cute with shoe shopping… and that’s funny about the Facebook live video! You live and learn. I hate making videos and seeing myself on one, or hearing myself recorded talking! As for what’s making me laugh, I’ve been down this week since my ankle is hurt, but I do love watching some funny tv shows on netflix while i’m laid up.

My grandfather passed away yesterday so it hasn’t been a good weekend for me at all, however I did take time to remember things about him and one of the things that made me smile was the last time I picked my grandparents up to go to my aunt’s house, my car is so low that I had to pull Pop up out of the car to get out! It was the last time I saw him and something I will cherish forever.

Laughing lately with my 4 year old, trying to get him to annunciate better, some of the letter combinations he comes up with it can’t help but laugh, he’ll get it soon so enjoying it while it lasts.

Here’s a little something funny from this past week. My husband is great at impersonations. So with President’s Day tomorrow, he has spent all weekend giving us impersonations and having my child guess the president. I’ve gotten quite the laugh at my daughter thinking his Johnson impression sounded like our pharmacist and Regan sounding like my mother-in-law. I’ve gotten a laugh out of their little bit this past week!

OK this made me laugh with joy! My 23 year old son, who lives on his own in another state, just told me he’s making chili in the crockpot! This is the child who is brilliant with a computer but can’t make microwave popcorn! :). Please keep him in prayer! :). BTW, if I win, these book are going to be gifted to the my young moms group that I mentor!

My sweet boy came up behind me as I was reading this to tell me that his homemade “stress ball” broke in his room and he needed some help cleaning up. I turn around to find him covered head to toe in flour. We both had a good laugh!

(Not funny) My son got a concussion on Valentine’s day from running around with a blanket on his head, he tripped and hit the floor hard. After monitoring him and talking to the pediatrician we had to take him to the emergency room (Not funny $300 copay) but when we got there he was really starting to feel better and was worried that they were going to put needles or tubes in him, so he kept telling the nurses “this is not an emergency, really, I am fine! Dr riser said I was ok if I walked in a straight line, and I walked straight to the bathroom as I was throwing up!” It was hilarious and the nurses were all laughing, too. Even when the doctors would walk around with him to see if he was walking ok, they would come back laughing, saying “he cracks me up!” I guess that’s about the best way to leave the ER, laughing with the doctors and perfectly fine. 🙂

Hmm, is it ok to share something that’s making my hubby laugh? One of those, “You’re right AGAIN, Honey” moments? I have a tendency to try to defend people and my husband has a tendency to exaggerate. (He calls it “setting the scene.”) Anyway, I had an appointment and on the way to said appointment, my husband was “consoling” me about how difficult my visit was going to be, all the while describing my practioner’s personal qualities in what I felt was a negative way. I, of course, was trying to defend her. The visit turned out to be very uncomfortable since during the majority of the treatment, my practioner was voicing her very strong opinions on all of the current event “hot-button” topics, and it happens to be that my views are the opposite of hers, which wasn’t helping the flow of conversation. ? When I got back to the vehicle after the appointment was over, my husband took one look at what must have been my very downcast-looking face and asked with concern, “How did it go?” I glumly replied, “We’ll talk about it later,” and he has been laughing ever since. ?

My daughter is two and is starting to string words together in sentences…she keeps us laughing constantly! She was non-stop all day yesterday playing outside, running full force with her arms out behind her yelling, “I runnin’! I runnin’!” Probably only funny to her parents (we aren’t biased at all ;)), but she’s what’s keeping me laughing these days. Thanks for the chance to win this great stack of books!

My Uncle Frankie passed away this morning. He was my father’s older brother. There were 3. My dad being the youngest and my aunt in the middle. My father and aunt have already passed on and my uncle, just shy of his 95th birthday went home to be with them today. I just keep laughing when I think of the three of them back together. All of the great times they had while they were here I am sure are back on up in Heaven. They were all Italian with big personalities.

I have 3 boys ages 5, 2, and 5 months. Every single day something happens that will put me into a belly rolling laugh. Just last night it was my 5 yr old telling us his poop was stinky because of the yucky food he’s eaten, like mommy’s soup. ?? Considering he ate his whole bowl I don’t think he meant it

Spent yesterday evening with mom friends playing silly board games and then going to a mom-focused comedy show. Tons of laughter and a little wine! Now as I type this I’m listening to my littles play with their friend who’s daddy just returned from deployment. He swept momma off on a date day and kiddo gets to come over and play here! Happy their family is reunited and thankful for friendships! My tribe is strong and my village is awesome!

was reading a story to our 5 year-old daughter yesterday morning and it talked about abandoned railroad tracks, so I explained to her what ‘abandoned’ means. A little while later she said, “What was that word that meant old and alone?” I answered, “Abandoned.” “Oh yes,” she said, “you’re kinda abandoned…you ARE old!” Gave me a great laugh! ? I may seem old to her, but thank God, I’m not alone!!

Our 16 month old Boxer puppy doesn’t like that three Canadian geese have started hanging around our pond and the surrounding property. Everytime we let him outside if he sees the geese he chases them into the water. Today he was running so fast and didn’t quite get stopped in time. He went swimming along with the geese today. It was hilarious watching him slide into the water!

I am reading Natasha Craig’s book “Keeping Your Kids on God’s Side” about apologetics to help parents in ministering to their children. And some of her introductions make me laugh out loud. For a serious topic she is so engaging. Highly recommended book. I am learning so much and am encouraged in my faith as I read.

My husband is an accountant and keeps a very detailed budget for us on our home computer. We sit and go over the budget each month to see where our money was spent as we are saving for a down payment for a house. Last month, our four year old daughter joined us on the couch for our monthly budget meeting. This week she told my husband, “Daddy, you know all those houses in Mommy’s phone?” (She means Realtor.com and Zillow.com) She continued with, “You need to buy us one with the money you showed me in the computer. Oh, and don’t forget to buy us toilet paper, too.” We died laughing at the way her sweet four year old mind works! Only the essentials…a new house and toilet paper!

What’s making me laugh is the dance-off at the Daddy-Daughter Dance at my daughter’s school yesterday. Nothing is as funny or adorable as seeing daddies competitively dancing and trying to impress (and embarrass) their baby girls. And nothing is a hilarious as 40-50 year old men break dancing in dance shoes.

I have eleven (11) cats; and not a day goes by that at least one of them does something to make me laugh. They range in age from 20 years old down to the “babies,” who are 1-1/2 years old. Their quirky personalities, their playfulness (all different degrees), their expressions, even their meows at some time or another, are hilarious. I did not intend to have this many cats; but every one of them is a rescue cat. And I believe that God directed me to take them in — homeless cats just seem to find our house. They are a lot of company and always unconditionally love a person. Their care does entail a lot of commitment and even work on our part. Food, litter, disposable pads for under the litter boxes, and veterinary care is expensive; but a purr, sometimes a lick, a sit-in-your-lap cat — each act of love from them is a wonderful thing to us older folks.

Our 7 year old daughter is into the DIY videos she has found on youtube lately. We have made homemade blush with old crayons and Sharpie painted sneakers this week alone! She is so intrigued by the videos that she has started to make up her own. She made a picture frame the other day and how to play with her dolls. She has a slight stutter, so this is actually a good thing for her to hear how she sounds and to replay it for her later as she is so focused, she doesn’t realize she says words “correctly.” We always giggle, because at the end, even though no one other than us (her parents) will watch it nor do we post it anywhere, she always smiles and waves saying, “Remember to comment, like and subscribe to my link below!” It cracks us up!

Hi. Every day, my children make me laugh. Especially my 3-year old and his way of pronouncing things like “foffy” (foggy), “you “tink” (stink, he can’t pronounce st yet). So often, I don’t correct him, just smile and have him repeat these words:)

One of my barely two year old twins recently starting saying, “daddy said I could…” and filling in the blank with something she wants (usually a treat, which we limit). I didn’t catch on the first few times but then after speaking to my hubby, found out she’d been doing the same thing to him (substituting daddy for mommy)! Where she came up with this idea at such a young age i have no idea! Smart, funny girl!

I know you are a minimalist & probably don’t have many single use kitchen tools, but this is much safer and easier for you and your kids to use.
Worth it if you eat avocados often!
Back in 2014, three different friends/relatives of ours had avocado accidents like yours that ended with trips to the ER in a span of just a few weeks. I did not want to be #4!

Thank you as always Crystal. What is making me laugh this week is my husband. Prior to our second child, he never let my oldest go out of the house with dress-up clothes on. Now that we have two girls, who are both into dress-up, we went to Walmart/Market Basket (our favorite local grocery store) with both princess Anna (the youngest) and Elsa (my oldest, who fell in love with Elsa the same year she became a big sister) on Saturday. Not only did we run into our Church’s Children’s Ministry lead, she got to see the same Elsa and Anna in full Frozen gear again on Sunday. My husband and I both laugh at how having another child turns you into a more lax parent, in the best possible ways!
