I’ve been having so much fun doing more handwork recently!
I’ve been working a little on an embroidery block for my sister’s baby quilt. My mom always makes a baby quilt for each of her grandchildren when they are born, and I sometimes help with a few blocks.
I took this Simple HeadWrap project idea and changed it up a little to make an ear warmer to replace mine that has gone missing.
I still want to make the Simple HeadWrap exactly as the pattern states and hope to do that soon. I’m really happy with how the ear warmer turned out and it’s going to come in handy during these cold days we’ve been having!
I also completed another dishcloth.
This pattern is so easy to make and since I’ve gotten quicker at knitting, I can finish one of these in a few days — just in the little snippets of time and as we’re reading the Bible together as a family in the evenings.
And finally, this cup cozy is my favorite project of the week. I took this DIY Cup Cozy Pattern and changed it up a bit. I’m not completely happy with the buttons and botton-holes.
So I’m working on perfecting that with a second cup cozy project and will hopefully show that to you in next week’s handwork post.
(And I also want to actually follow the DIY Cup Cozy pattern exactly as written — but I fear I’m starting to follow knitting patterns about as successfully as I follow recipes… or don’t follow them! :))
Did you complete any handwork projects this week? If so, I’d love to hear about your projects. And if you blogged about them, leave your links in the comments.

I love to knit..and I’m wanting to start to knit again. After reading a few chapters of your book I’m inspired to try to find something I enjoy to do. (other then taking care of two toddlers and a baby 🙂 🙂 ) However I’m pretty inexperienced…I could really use some dishcloths so I am wanting to try this pattern however after reading the instructions on the site I am more then confused…can anyone explain this further?

I really love this new feature! It’s so much fun to see all the projects you’re working on. I think I’m going to have to make one of those cup cozies!

I had a friend ask me to make her a hat with a flower on i.t She loved it so much
she gave it to her daughter in law. So I just crochet her hat and now her husband wants
a scarf. Knitting a scarf takes longer but all I did was cast on 24 stitches and K2, P2
the entire scarf. It’s lovely for both men and women. And oh so warm!

Right now I am working on making some plastic canvas shield shaped magnets for my Cub Scout Packs Blue & Gold. Once I finish those I am going to embroider a couple bookmarks for mother’s day gifts for my mom and grandma.

I am always on the look out for creative ideas. Yes I like to play with food, thus giving me this idea. https://www.etsy.com/shop/JunnieBDesigns
I create custom wording or lettering for you and then have them made into photos or prints on canvas. It has been a great gift for baby showers, weddings, for the kids and family.

Great work! I’m going to try my hand at stamped cross stitch this week. I’ve done a few counted cross stitch, so we’ll see how the stamped goes.

I’m looking forward to trying out the cup cozy. I went to her site and I’m going to try the one with four needles. I’ve not knitted with four of them before! Looks like a good small project to start with.

So cute!

Very fun!
I’m challenging myself to do more difficult projects this year, and as a result I’ve finished this shawl: http://lovetocrochetandknit.blogspot.com/2013/12/finished-pendulum.html
and am currently working on this shawl: http://lovetocrochetandknit.blogspot.com/2014/01/wip.html

I always love to see what people are making! I love the idea of different family members contributing blocks for a baby blanket.
I’ve been knitting for a few years, and I’ve never made dishcloths. It always seemed like a waste of knitting time when any old rag will clean a dish or wipe a counter. But maybe I’m missing something. I’ll have to try one sometime!

Cute projects! You’ve inspired me to try some handiwork again. (About all I accomplished in the past was a very crooked potholder!)
By the way, I just pre-ordered a copy of your new book and I can hardly wait for it to arrive!

Impressive! Great job! 🙂

Beautiful! You are an inspiration! I am with you on the patterns! I have a hard time with crocheting because of the patterns. I’m such a “wing-it” kinda gal!

Do you have a knitting outline for a boot cuff?

That’s awesome.. and I love the cup holder. Hoping your goals are all being accomplished. It may take me until 2015 to reach some of mine, but all we can do is try! Have a great week!

I agree to make sure to use cotton yarn when doing dishclothes and pot holders. Also, when I was embroidering, my mom reminded me that the X pattern, the corners of the X’s should touch. It will fill in the pattern better. It gives it a different look, so its all in the eye of the crafter. Just a thought. Looks really professional and even your way!

I love all your projects! Doesn’t feel good to get them accomplished? With the cold weather I bet a Coffee cup cozy will come in handy.
Traveling around the web I saw this picture of a Master Bedroom. They had a framed picture of their last name initial with their two first name initials smaller on each side. I don’t know how it was done because she was showcasing another project. I decided I could embroider it. Found some leftover linen and a picture frame. Had it all done in a hour. So fun. Oh and no money!
Working on a ripple scarf right now.

I finished a starbella ruffle scarf last Sunday to give to the lady who keeps my son. It was her birthday. I’m almost done with a dishcloth….a few more rows. Then I’m starting an infinity scarf….you posted the link on Pinterest. I LOVE this new feature!!! Knitting is so relaxing!

I’m just getting interested in knitting and found your site. The ear warmer looks like a good project. I don’t like wearing hats but keeping the ears warm definitely makes a difference when out in the cold.
That cup cozy is a great idea since some coffee shops don’t have the cup protectors to keep your hands from burning! Thanks for the ideas!

Working on this. I hope to post the complete progress on my blog (should be in my name above)

So cute and I really need one for the baby to lay on. 🙂

P.S. I love that headscarf! So cute! Simple and elegant!
I love the blogs you are making for your sister’s quilt. Did you design the pattern?

I never did get the hang of knitting, but I do enjoy sewing. I finished up a quilt that I had been working on for awhile. I sent it to a dear friend. I was a surprise! There is a picture of it on my facebook page, but I don’t have a blog or url. Today I made homemade salsa and canned it! I love having time to be domestic.
Crystal, I really appreciate all the hard work that you put into your blog. It is a real blessing. God Bless. Ruth Firl

I LOVE those dishcloths!! My grandmother had made several for me about 10 years ago and I thought they were great. Since her passing, I’ve bought a few on Etsy or at local craft fairs. One day I would love to teach myself how to knit them myself. Are they a pretty easy thing to learn? I’ve never knitted before.

I crochet and you can see my latest projects at http://www.Facebook.com/purpletulip3
My advice for those just starting is to make sure to use cotton for dishcloths and hotpads but otherwise any yarn should be fine for other projects.

They look great. I love my hand knit and hand crocheted dishcloths. They are so much better than the ones I’ve bought. I’ve been wanting to make some cup cozies for the other moms I meet for coffee after school dropoff occasionally. I’ll have to try that pattern.
This year, I’m trying to make more practical knit/crochet projects. I just finished a few more dishcloths and I crocheted some small circular fact scrubbies for me and my daughter. She’s turning 10 in a couple weeks and I want her to get started on being responsible on her own for her face care, so I bought some natural cleanser and made the face scrubbies for her. She thinks it makes her feel like a “big girl”.
Also just made a reusable knit Swiffer cover from a pattern I found online. I’m definitely going to make a couple more of those and I want to make some knit or crochet market bags for produce shopping.
I also recently made some crochet cloche hats with a flower attached as birthday gifts for a few of my daughter’s friends when she was invited to birthday parties. They’ve always admired the one my daughter wears and she wanted to give them to them. I wasn’t sure how they’d go over. I know some kids aren’t thrilled to get handmade or clothing gifts like that but they were a big hit. And I’ve made enough of them that I can made one in just a couple hours, so I think that’s my go-to gift for this year now.
