Looking for really honest Twigby reviews or searching for ways to save money on kids’ phones? This is a really comprehensive post on the pros and cons of Twigby phones, Twigby plans, and Twigby phone service!

Note: This post is sponsored by Twigby, but all opinions are my own. Read our disclosure policy here.

Save money on your cell phone bill with Twigby

Ready to get a phone for your teen or pre-teen?

Have you been thinking of getting a phone for your child? Wishing you could figure out how to add a phone without spending a lot of money?

I highly recommend checking out Twigby!

Twigby is a company dedicated to providing fantastic phone service at great prices and they are the perfect option for your pre-teen or teen’s first phone because they are so affordable, the offer great coverage, and they have so many different options for phone plans.

Why You Should Consider Twigby

Twigby plans are super affordable with a lot of flexibility — which is perfect for a child’s first phone. You can custom build your plan for each individual phone line based upon how much data each family member needs. You can also put some restrictions or limits in place for kids.

In addition, Twigby offers a really great range of options when it comes to phones. They have everything from basic flip phones all the way up to iPhone 8’s and other smart phones.

If you don’t want to buy a smart phone for your teen or pre-teen and just want a basic phone with basic features, Twigby offers some incredible pricing! However, even if you want all the perks of a regular smart phone with a data plan each month for your teen or pre-teen, you will still likely save a lot of money by using Twigby.

There Are No Activation or Termination Fees!

Unlike traditional cell phone companies, Twigby gives you the ability to create your own custom, prepaid plan — without a contract or an unnecessary activation fee. (Be sure to check out the Twigby reviews from my readers below!)

My favorite part about their service (in addition to their great prices!) is that they offer the ability to change plans or phones at any time for free. You’re not locked into an expensive contract that has activation and termination fees.

We got locked into a phone plan a few years ago with another company and we wanted to switch, but it was going to be crazy expensive to do so. I think this is one of the biggest and best selling points of Twigby, personally!

Psst! If you end up switching over to their phone service, they also offer a referral program so you can email your friends a special link and, if your friend signs up through your link, you’ll both automatically receive a $10 credit 45 days from your friend’s activation date! Read more about their referral program here.

How Much Will You Save with Twigby?

Twigby has plans starting as low as $9 per month for just talk and text. And data plans start as low as $12 per month! Even a cell phone plan with unlimited talk and text and 10 GB of data only costs you $43 per month — which is a lot less than you’ll usually pay!

With these kinds of prices, don’t just think about using Twigby as a phone service for your teen or pre-teen. It’s also worth checking to see if Twigby might save you money each month on your family cell phone bill — even if you’ve been on a family plan with a provider for a decade!

Get this: The average family that switches to Twigby saves $60 on their cell phone bill, which equates to an annual savings of $720! See how much you could save by switching to Twigby when you use this handy-dandy calculator here.

(If you try out the calculator, let us know how much it says you could save on your phone service! I’m very curious to hear!)

Does Twigby Sell Phones?

Twigby doesn’t just offer fantastic prices on cell phone service; you can also get great deals on phones from them! So they are a one-stop shop for saving money on phones for your teen or pre-teen!

Twigby Coverage Map

Is the Coverage Good?

A lot of times budget phone plans like this don’t offer very good coverage, but Twigby’s coverage is really exceptional!

In fact, their coverage is guaranteed because they utilize not just one, but two of the nation’s largest cellular networks (Sprint and Verizon)!

That means if you’re out of reach on their primary network (Sprint), you will still be able to access talk and text on their secondary network (Verizon). The best part is that it’s completely free and your phone automatically switches networks when necessary.

You can go HERE to enter your address and check your coverage.

Twigby Reviews from My Readers

Here are just a couple of Twigby reviews from readers:

We have been THRILLED!!!!!  Love the service, the prices, the way things keep getting better and better (seriously, name another company that LOWERS your price or gives you more data????). We love Twigby!!!

“My husband decided to try out the coverage and it was much better (once we figured out to turn the roaming on!). Also, it was cheaper than PureTalk. We don’t use our phones much, so it is great to only pay for what we will use.”

  • Sally says:

I put in my information and they were not able to do better than my current plan. I pay $30.00 per month for 100 minutes of talk, 4G of data and unlimited texting. I’m satisfied with T-Mobile, but it’s good to periodically compare.

    • Way to go!! And I so agree that it’s good to compare periodically!

    • Tim says:

Hmm…I just left the Twigby page and 300 minutes, 5 gig of data with free texting is $29 with 25% discount for the next 6 months. Sounds cheaper than T mobile to me.

      • Caroline says:

I have unlimited talk and texting through Boost with auto-refill for $30/month.y data has a limit, but I’ve never hit it since I use wifi at home. I also have better coverage than T-Mobile can provide me in my area. My husband used to have to go into our walk in closet to get a signal in our home with T-Mobil. 😂 We use Trac Phone with flip phones for teens at about $20/90 days. It has worked out well for us.

  • That’s a GREAT idea! Thanks so much for sharing that tip for other people who might be eligible when it comes around again!

  • Thanks so much, Laura!

  • Heather K. says:

Usually in public high school, it is expected that students have smart phones. The teachers here use them in class for learning games, research and lookups. It comes in handy if your son is in afterschool activities, group projects, and getting homework help from classmates or internet. I understand your concern though and don’t have an easy answer especially with a son. I have 2 teen daughters with smart phones and we talked often about internet safety and continue to do so. Don’t be afraid to have some difficult to say sort of talks, he’ll need to hear it and from you.

  • erin says:

my daughter has had a phone since 6th grade she is in 8th. and I too did not want her having internet access. we ended up go through republic wireless. she has a nice Motorola smart phone, unlimited talk and text over cell and unlimited talk ,text and data over wifi. the plan is $15 a month and works great. she is only on the internet at home, my parents house or on the school wifi.

    • Lynn says:

We signed up with Twigby for two different phone lines. The problem has been constant junk texts and calls. It’s frustrating and makes the phone unusable for my daughter. They changed the number for us, but it is still happening. I find it odd because my husband and I have service with another carrier and neither one of us have that problem. We will actually be cancelling Twigby at the end of this month. Disappointed that this didn’t work out, though.

  • Hello. Yes – you sure can have a smartphone with No data option. Then, you can use WiFi to download apps that you believe are appropriate for your child and then “Forget” the password for WiFi. That simple.

We have heard this same concern from many parents – “a service that must have WiFi connected to function enables the phone to have access to the internet.” They are just not comfortable with that. At Twigby, WiFi is not needed to make a call or text. Our customers can use WiFi as they see fit to offload data usage – Which is very smart!

  • Tammy says:

Interesting. What plan do you have? I have ting and I would save by switching. Esecially when I get a phone for my child. My ting phone will work with Twigby too. Thank youCrystal!!

  • Cindy says:

Thank you! we have been wanting to find something better. The option to get a phone with data is perfect for us.

    • Laurie Villotta says:

We are Cricket family. 3 phones everything unlimited for $90/month. We are on our phones a lot. Great service and we can watch Netflix any time with no worry about going over data limit. My youngest got her phone in 5th grade and my other daughter in 6th. I have no parental Controls over their phones. No contract. We can buy our own phones and they can get a Sim card for $10. We pay cash for our phones.

  • Meg says:

Hi, KT! I just checked in with the customer service team on the coupon code, and it appears to be working just fine. Are you outside of the U.S.? Can you try it again? Sorry you’re having trouble! -Meg, MSM Team

  • You are exactly right. We recommend google’s free family link solution:

Great for parents that want their children to have access to items that will benefit them. Works well with the Twigby – Alcatel Dawn Smartphone.

Many of our customers keep WiFi off their child’s phone and then enable it when they want to update or add an app for there child. Easy to do as well.

  • Hello. Great Question! Twigby customers just need to live within adequate Sprint coverage. Then, if they ever find themselves outside of Sprint coverage they can access Verizon coverage if it is available for talk and text (not data) at no additional charge . Hope this helps to answer your question. You can check coverage in your area at:

  • Thanks so much for sharing!

  • RacheL says:

WOW!!! This is just in time. I wanted to get an iphone for my daughter since they have the parental restrictions but I didn’t want to pay a lot. Twigbys prices are great and the services is more than reasonable. Thank you for SHARING!!

  • Jennifer says:

I would like to know if Twigby lets you turn on the data at a moments notice. I have Ting which lets me turn on the data at anytime (for example if a person got lost and needed a map, not that has happened to me). With Ting I pay for what I use without presetting the data or minutes or texts.

    • Twigby says:

Yes! With Twigby, you can turn on/off your data, minutes, and even texts. In fact, you can temporarily suspend them all at once, or individually. Much like Ting, you can simply choose a starting plan and only pay for what you use. However, at Twigby, we give you the option to accept moving to the next plan with our free overage protection.

  • Twigby says:

Sounds like a great plan. However, we are not aware of this plan and can’t find it on their site. Virgin uses Sprint coverage exclusively. At Twigby, we use both Sprint and Verizon for Talk and Text and Sprint for Data. Just something to consider since our customers really love having Verizon as a back-up when getting a phone call or text really matters. Additionally, Twigby certified phones are rigorously tested. We believe our standards in quality are the highest in the industry. We are so sure that we back them with a 30 day money back guarantee. Mr. Frugal himself “Clark Howard” Swears by refurbished phones. Our guess is that you may have had a bad experience with a refurbished phone – we would love for you to try Twigby!

  • Woohoo! That makes me so happy!

  • Mary says:

I’d like to use the referral program, but I need to have a current user’s name, email, and phone number. I’m not sure if anyone would be comfortable sharing that info with me so that we each get a $20 credit, but thought I’d ask. Thanks!

  • Lynette says:

Hi Crystal!! I’ve been looking to get a phone for my 14 y/o daughter, and after reading this, we decided to go with Twigby! We loved it so much after the first month that I also switched over, and we’re now working on getting my mom switched too. Thank you for sharing about this comapny!

  • brenda says:

We have twigby and we receive calls and text from canada. We also use facetime on wifi more than anything. You may want to take another look.

  • tammy says:

Just got our iphones from Twigby!! thank you Crystal!!!

  • darla zeba says:

Thank you Crystal. Just got two iphones! One for me and one for my daughter! The half deal for two months is hard to beat!

  • Samantha mcgregor says:

My husband switched two phone to Twigby in May. We just ordered another for our sons first phone. We cannot tell a difference from when we had ATT with service, but our bill is close to 70% less. Cant thank you enough for telling me about this. Been a life saver.

  • Amber J. says:

Crystal, thanks for sharing about this. My husband and I are planning on getting our daughter her first phone as a Christmas and 12th birthday present. After doing a lot of research, we’ve decided to go with Twigby. We are so excited to get her first phone, and we know she will be too!

  • julie says:

We have been with Sprint forever. So sick of them raising prices. We switch to Twigby 2 months ago. WE LOVE IT. Just added our daugheter. 50 % off , free shipping and she gets an iphone WOOT WOOT!!!

  • Emily says:

My son has been begging for an iPhone and I thought it was an absolutely ridiculous request until I found this company through your site. Got him the iPhone 6 for Christmas…can’t wait to see his eyes light up when he opens it! 🙂

  • Greta says:

I was nervous that when my kids opened their phones for christmas that they would work right. THEY WORK GREAT. They love them. THank you CRYSTAL and TWIGBY. You’re both life savers.

  • Judy says:

So I am going to give Twigby a try – I just ordered the phone and plan. With the plan I selected which was unlimited talk (I will only use wifi option) I will be saving apx $50 a month. I currently have Verizon – basic plan unlimited talk/text/2 g of data I keep my data off most time hardly use at all total cost per-month $73.00 with them.

Plus – I did use the chat system during purchase and they were most helpful and it was quick.

  • ANGELA says:

I signed my daughter up for Twigby when she turned 13.

Her first phone was under $50. We set up service for $9 – 300 minutes, unlimited text, wifi only. It worked perfectly for her for a year.

Since I don’t expect a cheap phone to last forever, I wasn’t surprised when it stopped charging after a year. We just ordered her an iPhone. It arrived a week earlier than expected and was super easy to activate.

I used the chat support several times in trying to decide on her 2nd phone. Each time, the rep was very knowledgeable and helpful.

I’ve been very happy with both the service and support. It was our perfect solution to the dilemma of when to get a teenager a phone.

  • Lynn R Dudenhoefer says:

I have, been with Twigby for a year and absolutely love them. I love how you can customize your plan. I have my payment deducted from my checking account. You get unlimited texting and pick how much phone and data you need. They always notify you if you are running low but the overage plan is great. Customer service with this company is fantastic. I was with Tracfone before this and getting ahold of CS was difficult and I often found them to be rude. In addition to the above my coverage with Twigby is much better.

  • Jennifer says:

We have been using for awhile. Awesome company and they have incredible customer service!

  • Banni says:

We just moved back to the US from overseas so needed to get new cell phone coverage. We looked into Twigby, but unfortunately found that their default carrier (can’t remember which one it was as I know they use two) doesn’t get great coverage in our area, so ended up going with Mint. They have similar pricing if anybody is finding they don’t get great coverage with Twigby and want to check out another low-cost option. We’ve had them for about a month now and have been super happy with them.

  • Michelle says:

I used to have Republic Wireless, but switched to Twigby a few months ago as it’s even cheaper for me. Since I’m a SAHM (so I can use my in-home wifi instead of data) that doesn’t talk on the phone much, my plan with the lowest minutes and data – and the 25% off – is about $11/mo.

  • Becky says:

I put my info in and Twigby could not save me any money. We are with Consumer Cellular. Thank you for info!

  • Allison says:

We’ve been with Republic Wireless for several years now – they also piggy-back off WiFi when possible to give cheaper rates; when I last checked it was very comparable to Twigby in pricing so not worth the switch for us. The only downside – no flip phones with Republic, so we will likely look again in a couple years when the time comes for our kiddos to start getting phones and we want one without internet access! Thanks for sharing so we know alternatives out there!

  • WOW. Looks like it’s gonna be a good option for my Son

  • Skippie687 says:

Twigby is by far the worse telecom company out there. The service drops at least three times every day at the worse possible times. Customer support and chat service are useless. If you call them out for cutting/paste an irrelevant reply, not addressing your request at all, they become defensive and then downright rude and abrasive. Impossible to cancel service and if you eventually do cancel they will continue to charge your credit card ad nauseum.

    • MIllie says:

I could not disagree more! I refer all my friends to twigby since getting one for my son. We love it and we live in RURAL america. GReat signal.

  • Sam says:

Been on Twigby for a year now. The cell phone coverage is so so in the city and downright horrible if you are in the suburbs.

Use to live in northern Colorado and now live south of Austin Tx. Same issues. Slightly better than our small town in Colorado, but not by much.

If you want reliable service look elsewhere.

  • Claire says:

We just switched from Ting to Twigby a couple of days ago, and already I can see a major improvement. Don’t get me wrong, Ting was a great deal. But we’ll be saving even more money with Twigby, and we’re already seeing some perks. When we signed on with Ting four years ago, we bought refurbished phones from them. Right away there were issues with the phones. Mine was so bad we had them exchange it for a replacement, but even so, there have been issues from the beginning. They lose their charge really quickly, and are too old for updated versions of several apps we would like to use. When we switched to Twigby, we bought refurbished phones from them, and the phones seem as good as new. My only complaint is that I wish there was an option to speak to their Customer Service agents over the phone. But otherwise, so far I can’t recommend Twigby enough!

    • Jordan says:

Yay! I’m so happy to hear you are having a great experience. Thank you for sharing your feedback! -Jordan, MSM Team

  • esther morgan says:

This helps alot I have been saving part of the money I will have spent

  • Ronnie Judd says:

Been with Twigby 2 months now and love the service and cost. Sprint works well in my home area, and when out of coverage, Verizon picks up anywhere else. This is the main feature I enjoy, Sprint local and Verizon elsewhere when needed!

  • Donald says:

Why does sending pictures and or group texts take up your data plan even when using wifi. Other than that initial impressions are good of the price and service.

    • Meg says:

That’s very strange! I would contact Twigby and ask about that. It definitely shouldn’t use data if you’re on Wi-Fi! -Meg, MSM Team

  • Sarah says:

We switched over to Twigby and find the prices keep climbing and we have been having a lot of issues with texts sending in group messages and the only way to connect with Twigby is by a chat which can take many minutes for them to respond to each chat line. Has anyone one else had this issue?

    • Bethany says:

We switch our family to Twigby from Verizon. We have not seen our prices go up. I love the overage protection tool for our kids phones . No issues with texting. I do know group texting needs a data plan or at least wifi for iphoens however this is with all providers.

      • Sarah says:

We have a data plan. We do the customer service chat and have to reset our settings and then we are good for a day or two. Just seems really annoying to do that every time we have issues. We have had Twigby for over a year now and we have noticed prices creeping up. Think we are going to cancel as it is just not working as well as a normal plan.
