I wrote a post about taking collagen every day and loved hearing your responses, thoughts, and ideas in the comments.
We rented a movie theater for Kathrynne’s 16th birthday. It was the perfect quarantine birthday party idea and it was a good deal — just $99 for up to 20 people!
We got to babysit him two days last week and he’s getting so big! He loves this ABC verse book and wants me to read it multiple times every time he comes to visit.
Happy first birthday, sweet baby boy! We love you more than words can express.
Getting to mother you this past year while your mama got healthy and strong was one of the greatest honors of my life. I hope some day when you’re older, I’ll get the chance to tell you just how hard she worked and how much she overcame because of how much she loves you.
You are brave and strong, just like your mama. You have overcome so many odds and continue to surprise us all with how fast you learn, how determined you are, and how you don’t give up even when things are tough.
Saying goodbye and giving you back to your mama was one of the happiest and hardest, brutal and beautiful things I’ve done so far in life. And it helped me understand a little bit more the depths of love God has for me… He sent His One and Only Son into the world — for me, for you.
We are so crazy proud of you and miss you so much when you aren’t here. But we are so thrilled you are thriving and being loved so well with your mama and we are humbly grateful that she loves you so much that she wants us to continue to be actively involved in your life.
Wherever you go, a part of our hearts will always go with you. You are such a gift, little boy, and we can’t wait to see what this next year holds for you!
This girl is growing so much. She has two teeth now, is learning how to open cupboards and drawers, and is babbling and climbing so much!

Curious what you thought of The War that Saved My Life. My daughter read it for school (4th grade) and knowing I love reading stories about WWII she said I should read it, too. So, we read it together and had such a fun time discussing it.
However….the storyline about Sarah’s “friend” Becky was a bit alarming to me – especially since this book was assigned to 4th graders!! My daughter didn’t catch on to it, but I certainly did!
A full review will be coming soon. It wasn’t what I expected at all, but I thought it was a well-written story that made you think. But some of the themes seemed to be more adult-level and kind of surprised me that they were in a children’s book (abuse, broken relationships with parents, etc.). They are real-world issues, but I just was surprised that the book delved into them as much as it did. I had heard that the book had a lesbian character in it but I felt like it wasn’t clear from the story whether she was or wasn’t. It hinted at it but never clarified it. I researched and discovered that that was the author’s intent.
So sweet! This post just warms my heart. I love all the precious pictures and the update. Thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome!
Hi Crystal, I cannot believe Champ is a year old. I have so loved watching him with your family. It is such a blessing to be able to continue your bond with him and his Mamma.
I have been doing pretty well with my phrase of the year ‘follow-through’ I wrote about it in my blog post. https://stillpickingupthepennies.blogspot.com/2021/02/january-2021-in-review.html
Thank you so much for your encouragement!
