Welcome to my weekly Slow Day post, inspired by Monica from The Homespun Heart. My Word for 2018 is Slow and, in the spirit of that word, I’m taking one day each week (Wednesday) off — I’ll be unplugged and offline and plan to move at a slower pace, take time to do things that refresh me, and just really focus on being present and savoring the moment.
Each week, I’ll be sharing a photographic peek into my Slow Day. Enjoy a little peek into our lives!

We’ve instituted a technology chart this summer where the kids can earn computer/movie time by doing certain things. It’s been the best and has eliminated so much whining and frustration for everyone! And you better believe that the first thing the kids do when they wake up is start working on earning their minutes for later in the day! 🙂
These kids! 🙂
This is my current treadmill setup — in the gym that is so close to being finished off! Every day I just dust it off and run! 🙂
Kathrynne spent the day with a friend so we took Kaitlynn and Silas to Soar — a ropes course. It’s usually insanely expensive to go to but I found that Groupon was offering a 4-person deal so we scooped it up and surprised the kids.
Isn’t this a great picture of real life… Kids all like, “Mom, why are taking yet another picture??” (They are never convinced by my statements of how I want to document these moments so I don’t forget! I’m sure they’ll understand someday!)
I promise I actually did go across a ton of parts of the course — Jesse just happened to only get pics of me standing and watching the kids! 🙂
It was so fun — a little scary and hot and tiring. But so fun! And the kids always love it when I get out there and jump right in with them!
After we went to the ropes course, Kaitlynn and I had chiropractic appointments.
Then we came home and I made Haystacks for dinner while Kathrynne made Homemade Guac.
And then we played a few rounds of Dutch Blitz before I needed to head out. We are addicted to this game right now and love that it’s something we can all do together and love. We have been playing at least a few rounds every night… and some evenings, it’s more like a few hours of this game! 🙂
The kids and Jesse kept playing while I left to meet up with my Discipleship Small Group at Frothy Monkey. We had such a great time together — and everyone was able to make it but one. I love these ladies so much and am grateful that even though our group will be going in different directions this fall, the relationships and deep friendships we’ve made will hopefully will last for years to come!

Would you mind sharing more about the technology chart? My kids are highly motivated by movies, so maybe something like this would help us!? I’m wondering what things you have your kids do to be rewarded with tv. Thanks!

I really like your summer technology idea. Would you mind sharing the sheet you created so I can use it as well?

Have you ever heard of Spineworx?

It has helped my back tremendously and I haven’t been to a chiropractor in three years since purchasing this product. It may be worth a try for you as well.

I actually LOVE going to the chiro and it has made SUCH a difference for my shoulder and neck issues. And I love the dry needling and massage she does, too. For me, it’s one of the regular things I do for my own health and feel that it is SO worth it for the small cost — especially since our insurance covers some of it. But that’s great that the Spineworx has worked so well for you!

Can you (or have you and I missed it) share the chart for your kids to earn technology? We gave been trying a few different things but Wonder if this would work for us…

I think your address is showing on the baseball magazine!
Crystal Paine says
That’s our public address. It’s on the bottom of all our emails. 🙂 Thanks for checking, though.

This was so much fun. When I first read the title, I thought something didn’t go as planned. But then ‘intentionally’ slowing down was a whack on the head. I’m going to share this with my family and going to have a slow day /wk after this dose of inspiration.
Thank you so much!
